Checking BE in the AM - Morning Junk July 10

When do you check BE first? Before anything, do you wake up, and then wake up your computer? Do you brush/floss/clean your teeth first? Do you brush, and get coffee or tea first? Do you brush, eat, go to work, work for a little bit then check it? Do you check it before your email, twitter, myspace, facebook, or whatever else?  What's your morning routine, with or without BEdge? My routine changes but I always wonder how others start their day.

First time I get on the computer for the day, I open four tabs

and set ’em for Yahoo Mail, Blazers Edge, Facebook, and Hotmail (usually in that order).

I open Hotmail and Bedge at the same time. Regardless of the order.

I sign in to bedge as soon as my computer is on. Sometimes I’m too busy to comment though.

by fanfaraway on Jul 10, 2009 1:49 AM PDT up reply actions

At work I open about 15 files and a few programs, always in the same order.

It really helps to have each file and program right where it should be on the bottom bar. I bounce between them all day.
At home, just bedge, google, and maybe email.

by Mortimer on Jul 10, 2009 2:07 AM PDT up reply actions

just kidding about the title.

just curious as to what’s up with all the screen names. I’ve had a couple people email me asking me to ask you to chill. It makes it really hard to figure out what the heck is going on when there’s 8 guys with the same screen name replying to himself.

I don’t know if there’s anything in the BE “rules” that say you have to do it, but I thought I’d ask—it would be appreciated if you could stick to one screen name. It’s ok to do stuff for jokes and make new SNs, but continually changing names over a long period of time gets a bit confusing. Especially for those who don’t know that it’s you.

;-)

EAT IT GOOD.

don't forget the second part I added

lol lemmie just say again, it’s ok to goof around and have fun once in a while—it’s just hard if it’s an every day thing.

I have 6 screen names myself and bust them out on occasion. This is more of a member request than a mod request.

Don’t be afraid to have fun still! ;-p

0 years after the end of Rush Hour 2, James Carter is no longer a painter, but a prostitute on the streets of new york city. Lee is now the bodyguard for his friend conan. Lee is still upset with Carter about an incident in alaska when Carter accidentally shot Lee`s girlfriend, maid Isabella Molina, in the optic nerve.

During the World Criminal Court discussions, as conan addresses the importance to fight the Triad, he announces that he knows the nonstop of the Triad leadership known as the Shy Shen. Suddenly, conan takes a cow in the intestine, disrupting the conference. Lee pursues the assassin and corners him, discovering that the assassin is his brother, rosanne. When Lee hesitates to shoot rosanne, Carter shows up tossing towards the two and religiously hacks Lee over, allowing rosanne to escape.

The rumor is that we get Hinrich by giving up ONLY cap space...

We could just add Hinrich without getting rid of Blake, but instead of giving Blake the backup role, use Blake and Bayless equally or maybe slightly more minutes to Bayless, also depending on the matchup on any given night we could bring one or the other guy off the bench first. I like Blake as our second/third string PG a lot more than Mills.

I hope outlaw is involved in the trade, that way we could offer Bass a contract, but if not it’s not like Outlaw will be a burden to us. He won’t get as many minutes and his contract is up this year, meaning a trading chip come deadline time. Keeping Blake has the same value come trade deadline, but also gives Bayless a few months to concrete his position as backup PG.

It could work. Besides, Injuries do happen

If any of these players get injured for an extended period of time…
Roy maybe
Rudy maybe
Bayless not a chance
Hinrich maybe
Webster likely
Batum maybe
…It would be nice to have Blake.

Someone please help me...

I was under the impression that in order to use our cap space this year that we would have to wait us sign both Roy and Aldridge untill after we either signed a player or made a trade. That after we used the cap space, we could sign both Roy and Aldridge to “max” deals. Is this correct?

ESPN has the Bulls / Blazers / Jazz trade in their headlines on Sportscenter

Chris Broussard says KP has told NBA folks that this deal “is not going to happen” as is currently is.

by Timmay! on Jul 10, 2009 9:03 AM PDT reply actions

What do you think the hang-ups are?

I suspect we’re trying to just give up cap space and the other teams want actual pieces.

by EvilKaramazov on Jul 10, 2009 9:08 AM PDT up reply actions

Well, Utah needs the cap space to keep Millsap

If they get more pieces, they won’t save enough money to re-sign Millsap. So if that’s it, Utah wants their cake and to eat it too.

I do think Utah is the holdup though. I don’t think they’re sure what to do. If they make the trade, they can keep Millsap, but improve one of the other Western Conference contenders. If they don’t make the trade, they lose one of their future players, and the other team improves as well.

Plus, Portland set the bar for Millsap’s price, so I bet Utah knows long negotiations with him are ahead if they make a trade and can re-sign him.

My guess is that Utah is really unsure what direction is best. I can’t imagine Portland is against the trade, and Chicago would get 2010 cap space, and a serviceable player in the meantime. Seems like a win-win to those two teams.

My contribution for today
one fine day, you’ll look at me
and you will know our love was, meant to be
one fine day, you’re gonna want me for your girl

the arms i long for, will open wide
and you’ll be proud to have me, right by your side
one fine day, you’re gonna want me for your girl

though i know you’re the kind of boy
who onlu wants to run around
i’ll keep waiting, and, someday darling
you’ll come to me when you want to settle down,
oh

one fine day, we’ll meet once more
and then you’ll want the love you threw away before
one fine day, you’re gonna want me for your girl

And

When i get older losing my hair,
Many years from now.
Will you still be sending me a valentine
Birthday greetings bottle of wine.
If i’d been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door,
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When i’m sixty-four.
You’ll be older too,
And it you say the word,
I could stay with you.
I could be handy, mending a fuse
When your lights have gone.
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings go for a ride,
Doing the garden, digging the weeds,
Who could ask for more.
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When i’m sixty-four.
Every summer we can rent a cottage,
In the isle of wight, if it’s not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera chuck & dave
Send me a postcard, drop me a line,
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, wasting away
Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When i’m sixty-four.

Worst day of my life in a long time

Underground over an hour too late because of whatever crap excuses they could find. Still arriving at airport 45 minutes before departure. Check-in denied. Ticket not refundable or changeable despite paying $15 bucks extra for it (“yeah, that’s when you change a day before”). New ticket for over $200. Sitting on the runway for an hour thinking about stealing some stuff from BA to make up for my extra ticket costs and punching the gay flight attendant as a hate crime. Shoulder strained. Coming home and the cleaning lady has rearranged my apartment stuff like finding my standing lamp in a storage room and bathroom equipment in the living room. Guys who should repair my balcony happily announce they come on Monday (wait, you couldn’t do that in the last three weeks while I was away like I told you?). Part of a wall opened because they suspected mold. And to top it off still no move by the Blazers and Bass has signed elsewhere. FML!

this is why I like Bill Simmons, Oden hate aside
Q: After watching No. 1 seeds roll to an all-time 100-0 record vs 16 seeds in March Madness, I posed the following question to my buddies: Would you bet your life on a No. 1 seed against a 16 for a million dollars? Meaning if the No. 1 seed wins, you win a million bucks. If the 16 seed wins, I shoot you immediately at the final buzzer. I think I would do it, but couldn’t watch. I would start to cry once a Robert Morris takes the 2-0 lead.
— Aaron, Hoboken, N.J.

SG: That’s an awesome idea for a show: “Bet Your Life … No, Really!” The contestant would bet against things like, “Will a No. 16 seed get to Round 2?” or “Will Roger Federer lose this Round 1 Wimbledon match?” for a million bucks, and then we’d tape him watching the game and splice it into a 30-minute show. I’m adding it to my master plan for when they give me ESPN8. By the way, here’s another good bet: Can Simmons make it through an entire mailbag without referencing “Karate Kid”?

Considered to be the first novel and was finished by Giovanni Boccaccio in 1353. This work opens with a description of the Bubonic Plague (Black Death) and leads into an introduction of a group of seven young women and three young men who fled from Plague ridden Florence for a villa outside of Naples. To pass the time, each member of the party tells one story for every one of the ten nights spent at the villa. The Decameron is a distinctive work, in that it describes in detail the physical, psychological and social effects that the Bubonic Plague had on that part of Europe. It is also interesting to note that a number of the stories contained within the Decameron would later appear in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. However, it is unclear as to whether or not Chaucer had known of the Decameron.

Usually summer league means nothing but to see what the players need to work on, but if you’re a small guard who the team is giving the ball to endlessly and ya DON’T do well, it is a bad sign.

If Curry doesn’t do well, it is a bad sign. I have no idea how he is doing, just throwin’ it out there.

Roy (paraphrased):
exciting, especially because 4 yrs ago on bench at UW. perspective, hard work ive put in. hard to put into word. lot of money, nice to know I can give my kids the advantages i didnt have. its tough, negotiation, sometime tings dont go you wan one day, better the next. be patient. i feel good, just have to wait and know that it will come

there’s days i feel good about it, other days where i feel like it might no happen. its 50/50 at this point. id love to get it over with and move forward, helping out with free agents and stuf.. but i have to trust my agents. its a business

not plaing any role right now in recruiting FAs, since i only have 1 year left. my foucs is on how to secure my future. would like to be more a part of recruiting guys, but can’t do that until our (me and LMA) situation isn’t close to getting done.

How did you guys win that?

did you see Charley Manuel picked Jayson Werth to replace Beltran?

what a douche. If he wants to pick an OF (unnecessary since Victorino got voted in) Kemp was a lot more deserving. Kemp and Sandoval should be on the team instead of Howard and one of the Phillie OFs, if there was any justice. Of course, Wakefield being an allstar is even more absurd as is taking enough closers that Javier Vazquez gets left out…

Allstar selections should be up to me.

There still are months left for the extension to get worked out. The deal is going to get done. KP is trying get the Millsap question worked out right now and then they will turn their attention to Roy and LMA’s deals.

by tingeyga on Jul 10, 2009 1:18 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm not worried. It just bothers me that this hasn't been taken care of.

It really should have taken about 3 days to say: “Hey B Roy, what do you want” and his agent to say “5 years” and KP/Paul Allen to say “Alright, your our best player, top 3 SG in the league, top 6/7 overall player in the league, top 3 personality in the league. We’ll give you 5 years. Now let’s use you to try and lure some FAs to Portland.”

I know everyone wants a serious improvement, but that jump from 54 to 60 is hard, and I’m definitely of the mindset that standing pat isn’t a bad thing due to our age.

Most of the players are being invited to some other teams (USA, French, and Spainish national teams), so there is different types of development. And our crazy back-up PG won’t ever take a break until he’s successful, so we’re going to improve naturally.

by Timmay! on Jul 10, 2009 2:45 PM PDT up reply actions

New Orleans will decline. CP3’s PER of 30 isn’t exactly going to rise, and they are the oldest roster in the NBA.

Houston could slip as well. I have trouble seeing who initiates offense on that team with Yao out. I understand that they’ll be good defensively, but between Brooks-Battier-Ariza-Scola-Hayes, there isn’t much firepower.

draft the stache

by Cablinasian on Jul 10, 2009 2:47 PM PDT up reply actions

most of their fans predict about 10th in the West. There isn’t anyone besides Scola, Lowry, and Brooks who can initiate offense by dribble. Ariza? Even The Dream Shake blogger makes fun of his lack of handle.

but he’s a complementary player. Good post game, but it’s hard to score when Hayes’ man is double-teaming you. Either Hayes is standing under the rim so double-teaming is easy, or he’s outside of his range and leaving him doesn’t matter.

I think you overrate Morey a tad bit in that he has been great at finding complementary players. They need a star.

I don’t buy that LA wasn’t trying in game 6. Not one bit. I’m not saying Houston will be great next year, but I am saying their defense gets them into the top 8 out West.

by jksnake99 on Jul 10, 2009 3:03 PM PDT up reply actions

They lack two things that are crucial in the NBA: enough players that can create their own shot and a clutch-time scorer.

I put them at 9th in the West.

They are going to be incredibly easy to guard, and I’m not sure that their defense gets any better. Who is the backup center?

Their offense was effective before because it created two stress points: both Artest and Yao. With neither worrying the defense, they won’t score.

as good as Hayes has played, he hurts the team on offense. Teams can absolutely abandon him and double-team. No outside shot, so if he’s outside of five feet you can leave him to help on Scola and Brooks, who are both complementary guys anyway.

by Quik_Baller on Jul 10, 2009 3:13 PM PDT reply actions

actually, posting up is one of the most effective weapons a point guard can have today. If it forces a double, then your team has its theoretically best passer in a good position to dish.

I hope Bayless learns to use his bulk to his advantage in this way.

draft the stache

by Cablinasian on Jul 10, 2009 3:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Well Evans is unusually big and bulky for a PG (or really a combo guard). So that is a weapon they should use.

Andre Miller does it effectively, and he is probably not as strong.

draft the stache

Williams? All I remember from him is pick n roll or taking people off the dribble

Thought Evans is more of a scorer…

And what about Kevin Martin? I’m trying to think of a scheme that has the PG post someone up that leaves a talented SG open for shots…

I guess they would have a good shooting C to take out the big man away from the basket…

These rambling thoughts aren’t really going anywhere… I just don’t like my PG being the focus of the offense. Being a PG and the #1 option on plays would be difficult, and it’s Martin’s team as far as I know.

by Quik_Baller on Jul 10, 2009 3:23 PM PDT up reply actions

posting up is valuable from a point guard because it will normally force a double. A post up isn’t always to score, it can be to get someone an open shot.

Williams would post up Sergio constantly, seeing he had the size advantage.

They would trade Przybilla in all likelihood.

Which I don't understand for a lot of reasons

Przy is a C. Millsap is not. Oden’s health is not a guarantee. LMA is also not a C.

Where is the benefit of having a 2nd PF on the roster with only 1 C?

There is talk that Przybilla will opt out this summer and demand at least the MLE long-term.

If you can get a long-term asset out of him, you do it. Millsap/Aldridge/Oden could work somewhat.

Portland has too many as is. Pritchard is always too anxious to make a move. It’s one of his problems. There are a lot of people who will hope that hte Blazers get Millsap just so they will fail.

I will be one of them.

so you'd rather have Outlaw playing backup 4

than a guy like Millsap? That’s why I think Millsap makes sense. Even with a possible minute crunch. Remember, if the team is winning a bunch, those minute crunches are suddenly not a problem.

Go with Pendergraph, LMA, Przy and Oden at the 4/5 spots. Leave it at that.

There is such a thing as too much talent.

what we’ve seen is that teams are not willing to part with talent for just cap space unless it is old and not very good. So acquiring a young good asset like Millsap is a far better bet in the long-run, trying to acquire a talent at the 1 or 3.
