Matt Frejie!
Damn, havent seen his name for a while
by BlazerBen on Jul 1, 2009 7:13 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Matt Frejie is the right kind of combo forward to pair with Dante Cunningham off of the bench.
In all likelihood, Jeff Pendergraph and Bobby Jones should be the starting forwards on that ballclub.
At center, I like David Padgett and Deji Akindele did alright in the Italian League last season; however, I’m still disappointed that Robert Swift isn’t on Portland’s summer league team as its starting center. Y’know, Swift would’ve been a better use of a roster spot than a third-string swingman like David Moss.

I guess the guys in the organization didnt feel as strongly about Swift.
I think i read that he signed on with the Celtics for summer league.

I imagine he is probably trying to avoid injury
waiting on a new contract

what are the chances monty williams takes that timberwolves coaching job?
The Blazers as a whole are far more like my wife than like me in the sense of their physicality on defense.

I know Kahn plans to interview him
I was planning to ask you guys what you thought about him as a coach for the Wolves.
From afar, he seems like a fairly intelligent guy who might be a good fit. I’m desperately hoping to avoid Mark Jackson, about whom there has been a lot of talk I know if we hire him, it means he isn’t on your TV, but I’m not willing to go that far.

Monty
about as solid a person as you can get. The players seem to respect him, so I’m hoping he waits at least a few years before moving on. Still, if Kahn and Taylor are willing to be patient and let Monty develop the young talent Minny has, it could work

There's a few of us here (me included) who really don't want to lose him.
I don’t know if that’ll translate into any abilities as a head coach of course.

don't sleep on Bobby Jones
great defensive player, and good friend of B-roy from UW. not likely to be a rotation guy, but could be a great practice player

I agree.
Jones has always struck me as a guy that, if given the right opportunity, could earn NBA playing time.
Were Portland to own it’s own D-League team, Bobby Jones would be a guy I’d look to sign. Of course that’s not quite the same as saying I think he belongs on the Blazers roster.

Thomas Gardner
Will another Jefferson Demo make the squad? Same as hawks thoughts on Bobby Jones, he could be a solid practice player/injury filler

Are any of these guys ballers?
I’ve made no secret of my desire that the Blazers put together an offensive-minded squad this summer to help “wean” Bayless from his tendency to just “put his head down and go” when his Vegas teammates aren’t getting the job done.
Looking over this list, it apears we have a similar collection of stiffs as last year (the names have changed, but once again the emphasis has been placed on defense and a conventional lineups with centers, etc)
Somebody please help me out…do you see any “ballers” on this list who can take the scoring load off of Jerryd’s shoulders and help him develop into something that resembles a pass-first point guard?
by two4larue on Jul 1, 2009 8:24 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Thomas Gardner should be good as well as Frieje
Bobby Jones was developing a 3 point shot before he got bounced
Pooh Jeter is an odd guy for this team considering he is a pretty good pg in Europe. I dont see why you bring in someone of his caliber. Seems like a bad move for him as he wants into the NBA.

No Steven Hill
No care.
Actually I’m stoked to see Pendergraph, but I’d still like to see Grizzly Adams back in a Blazer’s practice jersey.

I EXPECT NOTHING LESS THAN 25 PPG, 10 APG,
AND HAVE AT LEAST TWO D LEAGUERS FAINT WHEN THEY SEE THE BAYLESS FACE

That would be an interesting fanpost… expectations of Bayless in summer league. I might write it later today if someone doesn’t beat me to it. I was thinking today about what kind of numbers he’d have to put up in SL to convince people he can run the point. 18/8 was what I came up with although I think 23/6 is a more realistic balance.

Let's not get stat happy
I don’t care how many points he scores or how many assists he racks up. I want to see him look confident with his shot, and above all, I want to see him make good decisions. Does he look like he has an idea about what he wants to do? Is he using the threat of his ability to score to create openings for teammates? If the answers are yes then I will be very happy.
If your teammates can’t score you are not going to tally too many assists.

Pretty good group. But the Knicks Summer League roster is funnier. Too bad Robert Swift signed with the Celtics for their SL team.
