Ramon Sessions!
He didn't yet sign with the Blazers or get an offer, but he will. If we think long and hard about it, some journalist will create that rumor. Oh wait, here is one. Good ol' Chad Ford (ESPN insider):
18. Ramon Sessions, Bucks (RFA)
Teams are always in pursuit of point guards, especially ones that aren't going to break the bank, and Sessions has caught the eye of a number of teams. With the Bucks struggling financially, they may not be able to match.
Teams Interested: Bucks, Mavericks, Warriors, Rockets, Heat, Blazers, Pacers
Salary Range: $3-5 million per year
It already made sense long before the deadline, now he is only cheaper. And with Brandon Jennings they already have acquired his replacement, and a veteran with Ridnour is in place, too.
And Kevin Pelton a la KP2 also just figured out that Sessions is the BEST available free agent point guard, definitely for the long term. A starter for the next decade, most comparable to Devin Harris, Tony Parker, Deron Williams, ...
Free Agency 2009 - The Point Guards http://www.basketballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=714
And I just can't see any more Hedo rumors.

Not really.
Decent pick and roll player.

Lame
Sessions couldn’t even start on the Bucks why would we want a guy that cant even beat out Luke Ridnour. I want D. Harris!
ALLLL Rudy Then!!!!!
dont blame Sessions
he played for Scott Skiles who liked to start Chris Duhon
Sessions has some very nice numbers for a 22 year old who could come here on a reasonable contact.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.
I will talk about DeJuan Blair no more forever
I'll take (almost) any non-hedo to-the-blazers posts right now.

What about guys like Chris Paul, Devin Harris, Tony Parker, ...
David Thorpe: “Ramon Sessions has terrific court sense and timing. He’s the closest thing I’ve seen to Chris Paul on ball screen action, patiently reading the defenders but ready to make his move (pass, dribble burst, or shoot) in the blink of an eye. His on-court demeanor screams veteran, despite his age.”
I would rather pay $3-5 million for that than overpay for the next Rashard Lewis mega monster contract.

This is painful
but only because I like the idea of signing Sessions. Look at that price tag too, dreamy!
It’s painful because I feel pretty confident that we’re going to blow our wad overpaying Turk and regret it.
In Pritchard we are slowly losing trust!

I'm not ready to lose trust in KP until something really happens...
Don’t let a bunch of media so called,“sources close to the organization” take away your hope yet. I have enough faith to know there is more than meets the eye here… and that there is ALOT more that we don’t know than that we do… With that said if we end up with Hedo and Miller as our big moves this summer…THEN I will be disappointed.
Until then I will keep the Faith…
I feel the same way...
Seems like the majority of people posting today are just losing their freaking minds. Barely any trust in KP so far from the fans.

If it happens you all can say "I told you so."
but until then…Chill out y’all.

Losing trust in a GM who has a pretty perfect track record, and who hasn't even done anything yet
is beyond stupid.
If you believe that KP will make a bad decision
then you never trusted him in the first place. Trust means you expect them to make the right decision.
Course that doesn’t make you a terrible person. I’m sure you were very happy with his previous decisions, but trust requires some faith in the future decisions he will make.
I think we could still use our mid-level exception at that price tag
not that I want to blow the regular cap space on Hedo.
put a body on 'em
P.S.: Pistons have reached agreement in principle with Ben Gordon according to Yahoo's Woj
This makes Hinrich pretty unavailable.
no, it just makes him more expensive. bayless & trout for Hinrich.
Truth never was or can be propagated by fire and sword - Albert Gallatin
Personally, I'd trade Steve Blake, Travis Outlaw, and Jerryd Bayless to Chicago for Kirk Hinrich.
The backup point guard spot could subsequently be filled by signing a veteran like Anthony Carter to a one-year, minimum-level contract.
gone are the days
when “Steve Blake and cap-space” could get you Cap’n Kirk
what’s Chicago’s motivation to deal Hinrich, now?
Chicago could be a 2010 team
If they can move Hinrich, Chicago could be a MAJOR contender for one of the high level free agents next off-season, especially if two max-level guys don’t end up colluding to play together.
I’ve seen them as a sleeper to get D-Wade for about two years now, and adding Rose just makes it all the more possible.
I am afraid the price might have gone up
Bulls may charge Blake+Rudy for Hinrich now that Gordon is gone.
Well, John Salmons is already a solid fit for the Chicago Bulls at shooting guard.
I, however, do agree that Chicago will probably keep Kirk Hinrich as a backup to both Salmons and Derrick Rose.
bad deal
blake + rudy for Blake 2.0 with better defense and a larger contract in return? pass.
by mathrockerpdx on Jul 1, 2009 9:49 PM PDT up reply actions
and that's why I'm glad fans have no decision making power whatsoever
Blake, Outlaw and Bayless to Hinrich would be such a hilariously bad move….man where did you come up with that? You don’t even know what we have yet in Bayless for crying out loud.
by mathrockerpdx on Jul 1, 2009 9:47 PM PDT up reply actions
I'm not a fan, for whatever it's worth; rather, I'm an objective observer of the Trail Blazers.
Oh, and apropos of Jerryd Bayless, he had bust written all over him from day one. Of course, I was one of the few individuals who was seen ranting back in autumn of last year that the guy is nothing more than an undersized, me-first gunner at shooting guard in the body of a point.
Anyway, it’s unfortunate that the average fan doesn’t recognize the top-notch lockdown one-on-one perimeter defense Kirk Hinrich plays each and every game. Besides, even though the rule changes regarding hand checking, the cutdown on rough physical play, and the ability to play zone have taken away from the importance of man-to-man defense on the perimeter, Hinrich is so skilled at that aspect of the game he’s worth every penny he’s paid and then some.
I really like hearing this
more than the Hedo stuff also. This is getting crazy. I feel like there is such a huge desire for Blazer related content, we’re all going to die before next season begins. Hopefully the Hedo rumors are just a chew toy to occupy the media and fans while the Blazers go and get the real player.

it's not a rumor
that Nate’s in Florida today and Turk will be in Portland, tomorrow
you’re going to get have to get used the idea, Hedo’s coming and Paul Allen’s not likely to take “no” for an answer
Toronto’s lukewarm, Detroit’s out. OKC’s looking at Millsap and Memphis just traded for Z-bo
Portland is Hedo’s landing zone
With his prospects dropping off like flies, maybe we can swing it cheap
I wouldn’t mind grabbing him for the high end of the some of the other guys we’ve been talking about, but what he’s asking for is too much for me.
Solid attempt Norsktroll
to try to distract the moaners and groaners over the Hedo thing.
Sessions is OK. I’d prefer Harris (who may not be available) or Hinrich (who also may not be available). – Elgin
Without you out there, we're nowhere here
If Ramon could be had for 4 mill that would be good value.
And KP would still have some cap space and assets
cap-space? where?
once they sign the Turk that cap-space will be gone
sign and trade Outlaw for Sessions? That might get ’er done. The Bucks have thinned their forward position, but Trav and Redd are pretty similar (gunners, with no conscience)
Still, Milwaukee might think Outlaw is some kind of 6th man “answer” coming off their bench?
I dont want the Blazers to sign Hedo
I want to see TOR pay way to much for him and get Ramon cheap

A Sessions/McDyess offseason
would be incredible!!
by teenagemutantninjabayless on Jul 1, 2009 7:50 PM PDT reply actions
I doubt it
When you have Charlie V and Maxiell on roster, it’s hard to see another straight PF wanting to stay on that sinking ship.
I think Milwaukee would match on a deal of only $4M/year
And then try to deal Ridnour before the trade deadline (he’s an expiring contract). I imagine a team is going to have to offer him a deal at least in the MLE range to keep Milwaukee from matching. And I’d be perfectly happy with the Blazers’ signing him to a deal like that. I sure don’t like his shooting percentages or defense, but he’s young and can improve in those areas. He’s only going to get better.
A final plea for Sessions...
Our teams single greatest need is a PG to play decent defense and create high percentage shots for his teammates. If the guy can score that would be great! I don’t care if he scores from the inside or the outside. All the talk of PGs needing to hit perimeter shots to space the floor is exhausting. We have other players on our roster that can punish a team if they pack it in too much. If a PG spaces the floor with perimeter shooting the benefit is creating easy shots for his teammates. If a PG creates easy shots for his teammates with penetration and pass… JUST AS GOOD! Tony Parker is a stud and only a marginal perimeter shooter. Put pressure on the defense and create opportunities. That is what we need.
It would also be nice to have a player who fits our window for a title run. Our window may or may not open next year, but whenever it opens it ought to stay open for the next 8 years after that.
I like Hinrich. I love Devin Harris. If we can swing a trade that lands us one of these guys… Great! But we have no ability to get them if their teams don’t offer them in trade to us. It is out of our control. Make the necessary phone calls KP, but in the end if the offers on the other end of the phone are terrible or non-existant, make a move that you don’t have to have another GM sign off on.
Sign Ramon Sessions to an offer sheet!! I don’t think a MLE deal is enough to get it done. The Bucks will match it. You are going to have to overpay a bit, but PA gave the green light to go for it. Sweeten the deal in the end. Offer Outlaw in a S&T to the Bucks to not match an excessive offer for a PG when they just drafted a PG. If the Bucks decide to match the offer anyway…FINE!!! Then I don’t care which of Blake, Miller or Kidd KP decides to settle for, but at least we made an offer to the one free agent that meets our needs and could be available. If we move Outlaw in the deal we have some money left over to go find a veteran PF. How does Miller or Kidd fit our needs better than Sessions? They have playoff experience. I guess that’s something we need, but I like extending the window. If Bayless doesn’t develop, we won’t have cap space again.

I love a man that can
get 20 points 8 rebounds and…wait for it….24 assists in a game. I have lived him since his nevada days. Don’t forget he worked out for us coming into the draft. Need I also mention that he had his first triple double against our beloved lakers with a line of 16 points 16 assists and 10 rebounds.
If i remember right blake has never had a triple double.
This man can fill the stat sheet in less time than blake albeit with a worse outside jumper.
I’ll take him for that amount of $
typo
I have loved him since…
I don’t think I can live him
by NDREXLERDRIVE on Jul 1, 2009 10:44 PM PDT up reply actions
Why on earth are we willing to consider a S&T for Miller sending Trout and Blake out with $7.6M in salary
and we think paying a little over MLE is excessive for Sessions? He has a very similar skill set to Miller now and is improving. I don’t get Miller over Sessions at the same $$.
A young Miller achieved very similar numbers to Sessions now
Hard to say where Sessions ceiling is (at worst a very good backup), but I suppose Nate and a lot of fans could live with an Andre Miller in his prime as a point guard on our roster.
Didn't Milwaukee choose Sessions by not resigning Charlie V?
I thought the idea was the Bucks would resign one and let the other walk. Well, since CV31 signed with Detroit today, doesn’t that take care of that.
And if I hear one more person bring up Harris I am going to gouge out my eyeballs. Just wanting something to be true doesn’t make it so. All stars with reasonable contracts don’t get traded for role players in anything other than a blatant salary dump.
ak1984 i need a bag of what you're smokin
if you wanna trade Bayless, Outlaw and Blake for Hinrich! what justifies this move? I guess it’s gotta be the
‘top-notch lockdown one-on-one perimeter defense Kirk Hinrich plays each and every game". OMG what a joke! Hinrich couldn’t defend his honor, let alone any top 2 guards I mean 4 Christ sake! Maybe if we throw in B-Roy, LMA and our 2010 1st rounder we can persuade them to send us Brad Miller and Lindsey Hunter!!
Suggestion: If you have that much of a mancrush on Kirk Diggler by all means move to Chicago. Sessions is much better.
This comment will probably get deleted by a mod
But Hinrich is one of the best defenders in the NBA right now, he played amazing D against Pierce during the playoffs, I personally like Sessions over Kirk, but I would be estatic if we got Kirk too
I don;t know what you problem is with Kirk, but I’d say watch a few more of his games and watch how he plays D, dude is good
"Sometimes I catch myself watching him and he's shooting floaters all-net. And just to watch how he's talking trash. I loved it. I loved every minute of it. Rudy's a competitor." - Brandon Roy
You obviously didn't watch the Bulls/Heat series a few years back
Hinrich did an excellent job on Wade, who is the 2nd hardest SG to defend in the entire league.
