Assuming we sign Hedo... roster clarification

It's not an absolute necessity, but it's likely that we'll have to deal either Rudy or Batum if we sign Hedo. Just not enough minutes.

So what PG can we get with Blake + Outlaw + Webster + Rudy/Batum? I think that's enough to talk about Harris or Rondo...

Personally I think that Harris would be a good way to go after a signing like Hedo, and I think New Jersey would be interested in a package of Blake + Outlaw + Webster + Rudy/Batum...

Would we be asking for anything else back, or do you think that package isn't going to be worth an All-Star quality PG?

Um

Who would our backup two or three be? If we did sign Hedo, wouldn’t the blazers be more likely to play a lineup of Rudy/Roy/Hedo/LMA/Oden? Both Roy and Hedo can handle the ball, and both know how to effectively use the pick and roll. The need for a prime one is diminished with someone like Hedo.

been posting this line of thought since last night

gettng Turkaglu means Travis plus ONE of Batum/Rudy/Martell ends up with no playing time at all. Assuming Martell is not tradeable at this time, it leaves us with the following as trade pieces:

Travis
Bayless OR Blake
Batum OR Rudy
rookies/euros
draft picks.

It pretty much necessitates making another move. Letting Batum or Rudy wilt on the bench is a horrendous waste of assets. So, we should take those assets and aim high (Harris, Rondo), with 2nd tier options being Blake/Outlaw for Hinrich or a Miller or a Kidd

How did you guys win that?

With Hedo on our team it's gotta be Travis to go.

He may currently be better than the other two, but they are much more of a good long term fit (and everything will be stuck in longterm if we ink Turk).

of course it's travis...

but that still leaves us with 1 more guy than we can reasonably play – so, pick which of Batum, Webster, and Rudy are the odd man out? Logic would say Martell, but he has no trade value right now, so then what… ?

Yeah, I don't agree either.

If we sign Hedo, its Trout in the hot seat, not Nic or Rudy. Nic will back up Hedo to bring in some defence, and Rudy will continue to be Rudy, helping out at the 1 and 2 off the bench.

Martell is untradeable because of his injury meaning it will be Nic or Rudy on the block

If Harris is available an offer of Travis, Blake (both expiring deals) and Rudy is probaly as good as NJ can expect. Martell at backup two and Nic backing up the three. Maybe we bring over Claver to add depth.

more likely

it’s Travis, Bayless, Rudy. It gives NJ 2 young talented guys on rookie deals totalling half of what Harris makes. Besides, if we get Harris, Bayless is highly expendable, and Blake as a change of pace backup is more than adequate.

From the Net's perspective

I could see them wanting Blake more than Bayless. Once Harris is gone, they will need a PG who can their offense and that’s not Rafer Alston. Second, Blake’s contract expires next June, right when NJ will want to clear as much cap-space as possible to go after the prime FAs.

Perhaps the Blazers could receive Chris Douglas-Roberts as part the deal, to backup Roy?

Blake 4,000,000
Outlaw 3,600,000
Rudy 1,165,320
total: 8,765,320

Harris 8,400,000
CDR 736,420
total: 9,136,420

do the math though:

PG: Blake 24, Bayless 18, Roy 6
SG: Roy 28, Rudy 20
SF: Hedo 16, Batum 20, Rudy 12
PF: LMA 34, Hedo 14
C: Greg 30, Joel 18

So, this gives NO minutes for Martell. if/while he’s still injured, fine. But what about when he comes back? Someone else other than Travis is going to be the odd man out. If that’s the inevitability, which it seems to be, then wouldn’t it be better to package blake, outlaw, and rudy for a major PG upgrade?

If Harris is the target of the trade...

it’s got to be Bayless, Outlaw, & Rudy, just by the fact that Harris is like 25 yrs old. Not sure if the contracts match up or cash considerations must be made in addition, but Webster/Blake are more than capable of backup SG minutes.

exactly

its outlaw/bayless/rudy for harris if that’s our target and NJ is interested. and yes, the salaries work. even if both teams are over the cap.

If we can get Harris in a trade,

it doesn’t matter who is going out. Rudy, Marty, Blake, Bayless, Batum, Trout. They are all expendable to get Harris IMHO. A starting 5 of Harris, Roy, Turkoglu, LMA, and Oden would be so ferocious it wouldn’t matter who was backing them up.
