Best Dunk of the Season?
A few weeks ago (or maybe months), there was a FanPost talking about how Portland as team was in the top-five in dunks this year. Going through this mass amount of facials, break-a-ways and ally-oops, I have a question: Which one was the best? You can define "best" however you want, wheather it be the best poster, most meaningful at the point in the game, the one with the most swagger, or whatever.
in no particular order here are some canidates.
Roy over Samb
B-Rex against Simmions
Batum over Pau v1
The L-Train over Dampier
the L-Train over the Birdman
Trout over the Big Ticket
Rudy to Roy
sergio to bayless
rudy at the dunk contest
any sergio-to-rudy dunk
Greg vs Bynum
obviously, there are others.
LATE ADDITTION:
from popular demand:Greg Oden putback dunk in the playoffs

Look at the hustle by LMA in Batum's first dunk video
Anybody see Zach ever doing something like that?
Agreed
Thats why Z-bo has become a black hole of a player with a huge contract. Good lord im glad our team is back to being sane.

Time for Zaig to go to town!
These are all factual ratings that cannot be disputed at all!
Roy over Samb
9/10 on the Zaigometer
Pros: Countered Gordon’s dunk, giving us momentum, completely posterized someone.
Cons: That someone was a no namer.
B-Rex against Simmions
7/10 on the Zaigometer
Pros: Closer game, gave us momentum, introduced J-Bay to NBA (kind of.)
Cons: Simmions oooh, also the foul call despite there being no contact. The caliber of the dunk is overrated to thanks to the timing and who it was.
Batum over Pau v1
6.5/10 on the Zaigometer
Pros: Posterized Gasol
Cons: Gasol wasn’t really set, he was running and turning, so it’s not a true facial.
Batum over Pau v2
9/10 on the Zaigometer
Pros: Posterized Gasol again and held up the 2 fingers
Cons: (Don’t recall any.)
The L-Train over Dampier
7.5/10 on the Zaigometer
Pros: Threw down like Superman
Cons: Threw down like Superman
The L-Train over Birdman
6/10 on the Zaigometer
Pros: It was against Birdman
Cons: Birdman didn’t really contest it too hard, and as a dunk goes it was fairly normal.
Trout over KG
9.5/10 on the Zaigometer
Pros: Against KG, he made a nice move before it as well.
Cons: None really, but he didn’t send KG to the floor, so minus .5.
Rudy to Roy on the inbound
10/10 on the Zaigometer
Pros: Totally heads up play, Roy showed mad hops like he hasn’t before (sans ASG maybe), relevant to game.
Cons: Don’t exist.
Sergio to Bayless
8.5/10 on the Zaigometer
Pros: Two guys competing for playing time working together, sick 1 handed oop.
Cons: We were up by 28…
Dunk contest
NA/10 on the Zaigometer
Doesn’t count before it’s a dunk contest
Sergio to Rudy
9/10 on the Zaigometer
Pros: Oops from 3 point line are impressive, reverse dunk oops are almost unheard of.
Cons: None really, just didn’t strike me at 10 material.
Oden over Bynum
7/10 on the Zaigometer
Pros: Impressive dunk by Oden, showing what he will be
Cons: In 2 years, this will be a nightly occurence, kind of makes it seem less awesome.

Excellent summary,
I was going to counter-argue some of them but then I went back and read the first sentence.
Bingo, bango, bongo!
Hahaha awesome
Obviously dunk coolness are a matter of opinion :-). Shoot, my feeling for each dunk could change on a daily basis depending on if I’m in the mood for a dunk that was meaningful and had good teamwork/form (Rudy to Roy/Sergio to Bayless) or if I’m in an angry mood and want to see domination (Roy/Samb).
Roy over Samb..
I have never felt so bad for the Clippers.. I mean I wanted to give samb a hug and tell him it was ok, give him some icecream or something. Thats the kinda thing that hurts not only the body but the soul
if that happened on a street court, you could NEVER play there again

Mine is the only vote for Outlaw's dunk over Garnett??
Other dunks high on my list were Roy over Samb, Batum over Pau (version 1), and L-Train over Dampier, which my sweet wife made into an XP desktop for me. – Elgin
VENTURA: It's drowning. It gives you the complete sensation that you are drowning. It is no good, because you -- I'll put it to you this way, you give me a waterboard, Dick Cheney and one hour, and I'll have him confess to the Sharon Tate murders.
I voted for Outlaw over Garnett
Huge game important shot
Over Garnett
and very much a posterizing shot.

Easily number one for the season.
I voted that too.
We needed the points, we needed the swagger, we needed to grow up. That game without Roy was one of our big signals of the season. Were we stuck getting pummeled by all the elite teams still? I think it made a huge statement to all the players on our team that they were great even without Roy.
The dunk is acrobatic, requires a dribble seperation from the perimeter D, and was right in KG’s chest. No other dunk is close to it this year.
Samb? Roy, try dunking on someone who isn’t a skinny rookie, then I’ll give you some props. The only way you get past Outlaw is slamming in down on either Howard or Bynum(just cause I hate the Lakers) heads.
Outlaw wins.
Batum over Pau.
just cause it’s a total facial and it’s the L*kers. Brandon over Samb was a little more impressive cause he actually put Samb on his back. Also, watching the Rudy video just reminds me again how much he got robbed. The scores on that dunk were ridiculously low.
Roy over Samb
He should have just stolen Cheikh’s girlfriend and smacked his daddy in the mouth after that one.

I chose Trout over KG cause it was KG gettin punked and really important
It seemed like towards the end of the season greg missed a lot of gimme dunks.
LMA over Birdman
I believe that was payback right after the Birdman hair-slicking incident. Sweet.
Sticking up for Travis Outlaw since 2008 and Steve Blake since two weeks ago.
That's why I picked it also
The timing of the dunk, the swagger, the intent that he was going to shut bird man’s mouth by making a poster, and there was nothing the bird could do about it.
Roy over Samb was just sic
What made it better was the look Roy gave him after! LA over Dampier was also awesome.
Roy over Samb
I watched it again on YT the last few days and it is really amazing.
Brandon Roy, 'nuff said.
Best draft of all time: "1942, right after Pearl Harbor….everyone got drafted" --- 92wastheyear
Its not an easy choice
but I do love the Birdman dunk, because of how Aldridge yells after it.
This year is NOT a building season!!
outlaw on Kg
because the timing of play
That's right, that's a picture of me with my new bff Joel Przybilla. He said my Billy Idol Karaoke was spot on.
other
Oden in that playoff game where the ball hung on the rim and he put it back, can’t remember exactly which game it was but i wanna say 2. you remember.
- Sam
That was pretty sweet.
But I’m not impressed. Oden can do so much more than that.
Still Outlaw over KG. The statement dunk of the season.
Bayless against Jersey has 2nd most votes...
That’s not even the best dunk Bayless had all year, let alone the best dunk by any Blazer.
Remember the peer pressure at BEdge is "LOVE BAYLESS, trade trout!"
Though I could see some liking that dunk for its Spud Webb style.
Brandon over Cheikh does not deserve No.1.
34% of BEdgers disagree with you
On a poll with 17 options, getting 34% to 11% pretty much cements it as the obvious choice.
And I agree.
It was absolutely demoralizing, stylish, explosive and smooth.
"Tough times don't last. Tough people do."
-Chauncey Billups
Sergio/Rudy had the most cool dunks
But I don’t think any of theirs were the top dunk of the year. Although nba.com might disagree since that alleyoop into reverse dunk was getting some serious love on their plays of the year lists.
More Pros for Bayless Dunk
Blake was out so the Blazers were playing without their starting PG. The expectation was for them to struggle without him.
They had just been blown out by Philly and they needed road wins.
It came from a player who was trying to break out and really was struggling.
He cocked it back to avoid the contact and appeared to rise up after he had reached the peak of his jump to get over those outstretched arms.
That play propelled the Blazers on to a much needed road win that helped build the Blazers confidence that they could come back to win on the road.
I am not a Bayless lover. I think he has a lot left to prove, but if he goes on to earn the starting role and become an impact player for the Blazers over the next few years, that dunk will always be seen as his first memorable, huge play. Even if he moves on and isn’t an impact player I will never forget his raising up that extra bit to bring down the thunder on the Nets.
PTB Liberation Day - 2/10/04
Roy over Samb
For me, the fact that samb was trying to foul and prevent the dunk, but Roy just dumped it on his head anyway makes it the best. It was so damn powerful and I loved the swag after the dunk. Roy da man….
RUDY > MJ
Roy over Samb
I was at Staples, about 5 rows directly behind the basket where Roy posterized Samb. It was epic, and actually helped break open a tight game. I remember I kind of felt sorry for Samb, who had just checked into the game for the first time, then got pulled out almost right away.
All the candidates were great dunks, but this one was the best for me cuz I saw it so close up!
Bayless
because, to me, it was a release of pent-up energy and a dazzling display of his athleticism. It’s not to say the other ones aren’t amazing. But I see that dunk as a picture of the Blazers this past year: lots of potential that just needs an opportunity.
I'm going to come up with the best line here ever, something really clever.
Other
I really really really liked Roy’s lefty dunk at home against Chicago. I know, it was a blow-out, it wasn’t over three other dudes or anything, but it was lefty, he glided in the air forever, and it was in the midst of several other spectacular plays yet rose above them. You’ll see the dunk in any BRoy highlight package from 08-09.

Great Post!!!
Looks like my order is the same as the percentages indicate…
Top 3 – Brandon on Samb, Rex on Simmons, LMA on Dampier.
Jay-Bay got the nod over LMA b/c of the little man factor, though LMA took far more contact than Rex took (which was NONE).

I got J-bays first dunk..
I just love seeing Ike flash that big ol’ smile. He’s on the all time Blazer benchwarming pep team.

Definetly ODEN vs Bynum
its nice to see a flash of potential from the big man.
Just with he would have thrown it down a little harder. Watching that game i nearly nearly broke my leg jumping off the couch so quick
