Function over Form in Brooklyn
I have never associated the NBA with high architecture. Just look at the Rose Quarter. Now, Frank Gehry's design for the new Nets stadium has been scrapped because it would have held up traffic. I think it's because it would have challenged people's perceptions too much...TOO MUCH!

the new one is hideous
looks like an old converted warehouse or something.
The tower design is quite striking and different. Very cool. Would have made for a ton of great blimp shots during telecasts.
If costs were becoming too big an issue, you think they could find some middle ground rather than going straight to the abandoned warehouse plan.
How did you guys win that?

The author sure talks up the architect.
I think a more valuable architect would be one that has some realistic sense of the budget and does more with less. Function is form. Make your innovations more functional and form will follow.
The idea of just attaching more stuff to a building, dressing it up until it is a pipe dream, isn’t my idea of creative architecture.
The cowards never started
The weak died along the way
Only the strong survived
They were the Trailblazers
