Joel Freeland close to signing with Unicaja
Marca.com is reporting that Freeland is close to signing a deal with ACB team Unicaja. The article was in spanish so I was only able to get the gist of the article, but it looks as if Freeland won't be an option at backup PF this year.
Because of this development, I'd be surprised if the Blazers didn't draft a PF at either #24 or #32. Possible options that might be available are Tyler Hansbrough, Gani Lawal, Omri Casspi(though probably better suited to play SF), Josh Heytvelt, and Jeff Pendergraph. I personally like Hansbrough and Pendergraph, but I could see us drafting one of these other guys too. It's also possible that Pritchard may decide to address this need in free-agency. Even if he does I'd be surprised if we didn't draft a PF with our first two picks. It never hurts to have some depth at this position.

Foreign Papers Aren't Always Reliable
I would put this report somewhere below the report that Portland and New York have a deal “in place for draft day” sending Sergio to New York.
Kermit on the inbounds play, inbounds....
BATES at the horn, HE SCORES!! HE SCORES!!!!
And they are all over Billy Ray Bates! My, oh my!!!
You make a good point about Joel
I was hoping he would be the back up PF this year, but if he signes a new deal that would put an end to that idea. I am still not sure I want the Blazers to draft at #24 this year, infact I think moving out of the 1st round all together would be best, hopefully in a trade to bring us some vet help rather than young rookie type help.
Amlmart1 had a fanshot on this same topic, (almost the exact same title even!) here. In our ongoing effort to keep the site clear of duplicate posts, please check both the fanshots and the fanposts next time so we don’t split the discussion.

If we aren't bringing in a rookie
I still like a player like Najera as our backup PF. He would be cheap, short-term, not make waves (content on the bench with most of his time) and provide energy in short playing stints.
Marca has about the same overall credibility
