Trade Idea to get Portland Chris Paul and Al Thornton
I've been messing around with the trade machine for a couple of hours and I just couldn't figure out a way that Portland could get Chris Paul. In the trade machine he has a poison pill provision (PPP) and it expires July 1st, 2009. Since there is no way I can simulate all the contracts for after this date I started reading the CBA to teach myself how to make trades.
Let me tell you, PPP and BYC players are a real headache to trade. So I came up with my first successful trade after learning how the system works.
The teams involved are Portland, New Orleans, Memphis and the LA Clippers:
There is probably no chance any of these teams would do it besides Portland. Although I wonder if the Clippers wouldn't be happy to get rid of Thornton since that will be Blake Griffen's spot when they draft him. The Hornets would end up saving money once Chris Paul's huge check needs to be sent out, but I'm not really sure if Memphis would want to take on two scrubs with the cap space they have.
This trade was mostly for fun, but I think it's at least interesting. Maybe KP will throw it out there on draft night. Sweeten the deal by throwing in some of those 2nd round draft picks.

Good job to get it to work. But the Hornets would be crazy to do it.
Without looking at the other teams, they are giving up Chris Paul, Wright, Brown and Armstrong – for Blake, Sergio, Bayless, Outlaw. Hollinger’s PER analysis describes it pretty well: – 14 wins. And it doesn’t even save them a lot of money. It would be easier for them to e.g. just send Posey to us for Outlaw, or to Memphis for nothing but a future pick once the moratorium has ended.
At the moment it’s pretty hard to make good trades with the ESPN machine anyway, since players whose contracts end can’t be traded but are still on the cap. Will be easier once the season ends.

I don't think thornton is any better than outlaw
I can’t imagine even trying to trade for him.

I think the trade is for CP3 more then thornton, and thornton is a hard worker most of the time

Here is a trade, without Al Thornton, CP3 to PDX

Offseason:
PG Options: Mike Conley(T)/Jason Kidd(FA)/Tyreke Evans(D) - Pick one
SG Options: Terrence Williams(D) - If we lose Rudy
Forward Options: Reggie Evans(T) - Taj Gibson(D), Damion James(D), Kevin Seraphin(D)
Memphis - Portland
Memphis is willing to do anything they can to convince Rubio to not whine his way out of town if they draft him. What better way to make that possible then trade for Rudy? Oh but that will cost you Memphis :) We give them Rudy, Outlaw, Bayless. In exchange, we get Mike Conley Jr & Memphis’s 1st round pick in 2010. :O John Wall?

is arguably the second best player in the league. period. And when he is done he might be the best PG ever. You don’t trade that kind of value for a bunch of role players. Think about how much we traded to get an over-the-hill Scottie Pippen from the Rockets. That was a blockbuster trade involving at least 6 players for a guy who was at best a complementary star throughout his career (although perhaps the greatest complementary star ever). If you break the bank to get an aging pippen, how on earth can we get CP for a bunch of 2nd tier rotation players and some guys who are barely in the rotation?

If Artest can say it, so can I. Broy>Kobe.
I think the hornets may consider for a few seconds, a trade sending Roy, Fernadez, Batum, and Bayless to NO for Paul.... and then I think they would realize they are never goingto trade Paul while he is still one of the 3 most valuable basketball players
As much as I would love to get Paul, I think there is zero chance we get him for the foreseeable future.
yah this kind of makes me think of how 3 year olds think about money.
you know, how you can give them 5 pennies for a dime because its 5 times more! or 6 nickels for a dollar. unless the NOH are being run by a 3 year old, i don’t think they are trading CP3 ever.
Please, for the love of all that is holy, please stop using the following: "Book it.", "FTW", "Epic" & "Fail".
...no seriously--stop.
Four team trades to allow the heisting of superstars happen all the time and I'm sure this one will, too.
