Quick question:
Are the Blazers now in possession of the 2010 Darius Miles Expiring contract? Or the DMEC?

No
He is handled like a waived/bought out player now.
Blame KP, he could have sent him home with pay to trade him later, but decided to go the medical retirement route to free the roster spot and potentially get him off the cap for good which failed since Darius never wanted to retire :)
too bad huh?
that would be a pretty valuable expiring contract. I think the rules of the medical retirement should change. If a player proves he can come back then he should have his original contract reinstated. There is no reason we should have to pay a guy to play for another team.
for like 2 minutes a game.
"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.
"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

Darius never retired, for medical or any other reasons.
He never filed retirement papers with the league.
He was found to have incurred a ‘career-ending injury’ and was waived by the Blazers.
