Sign Hedo Turkoglu?
Hedo Turkglu will be a free agent and I thought untouchable but reviewing last Mondays Courtside, both Mike's agreed that he will not be resigning with Orlando. Anyone know why they would be certain about that?
Antonio estimated his worth at $10mil a year, which is more then the Blazers can offer a free agent given the likely cap space they will have. Assuming the Mike's are correct about Orlando not wanting or being able to afford resign him, do you want the Blazers to sign him? What scenario do you see the Blazers being able to afford him? Renounce more players? Which ones? Sign and lopsided trade?
I could imagine this as the most likely way to get him but not certain Orlando would play along. Lopsided sign and trade involving Outlaw. Hedo's 10mil - Outlaw 3.9 = 6.1mil which I think will nicely fit under the salary cap therefore a legal trade. If Orlando would do it they would be looking to cut salary and replace Hedo with someone that they pay a lot less but is worthwhile. Do you think Orlando would do this? Would KP? Is this the way you want the cap space spent?

He's a true point forward
So you could probably live with Steve Blake and Bayless backing him up as long as you created enough PT for Martel and Batum.
I’m not sure what it would take to get him, but I’d take “Big Shot Turkey Glue” over “Big Shot Trav” almost any day of the week.

Hedo would help the offense...
But would make the Blazers absolutely terrible on defense. He is a terrible defender which means that Roy would have to defend the oppositions thoughest perimeter player every game. Exerting that much on defense will limit Roy effectiveness on the offensive end.
If Portland is going to seek out a player that would turn us into a team predicated on offense, I would prefer Steve Nash, but my real preference would be to improve the defense and trust the NBA’s most efficient offense to be effective enough to win in the playoffs.
We lost to Houston, a team almost designed to beat the Blazers, but if we were to play them again, I think that we could hold our home court advantage. The only thing that we may need to upgrade on the wing is our physicality. Hedo has many strengths… strength is not one of them. He would make us a less physical team.

Yeah, Hedo Turkoglu just isn't a good fit here.

So, let me get this straight...
You want to strengthen the perimeter defense by adding Kirk
Then weaken it again by acquiring Hedo?
Everyone needs to keep repeating the slogan “toughness and physicality” every morning and ask yourself if the player you would like to go after fits into KP’s #1 state goal for the ’09 offseason

Hedos Defense is a lateral move from outlaw and webster.
And kirk is a step up from blake and sergio. So we get better. Whats the big deal?

Im on board...
I don’t think many people truly appreciate how much better our team would be with him. His offensive style and production is comparable to Blake, but his PG defense would turn one of the team’s greatest weaknesses into a strength.

Orlando very well might consider a lopsided sign and trade for Outlaw, as it would at least give them something for him...
but personally I dont think Turkoglu is the answer. I like our 3’s, and think we have a great shot at getting something great out of that position next year in either Nic or Marty. I would rather see us get a defensive PG, and a veteran banger. Also as Salem Stephen pointed out, Hedo’s defense is not good.

The thinking about why Orlando can't keep him
Is that they are already stretched way thin financially with Howard, Nelson, and especially Rashard. Hedo will want and deserve and GET a 10+ million deal after taking this team to the damn Finals, and Orlando just likely can’t afford it.
We’ll see though… it’ll be a hard sell to fans to drop the guy who really has instigated this surprisingly deep playoff run.

Watching Turkoglu
vs the lakers last night the guy could not penetrate and dish at all. Portland is loaded with shooters already.
I try to help with everything," Fernandez said. "If the coach says go rebound, I go rebound. I work for the team.
""If I'm playing this game to get media and attention, I shouldn't be here," Aldridge said. "I'm here to play basketball, and do what I can do to help this team win."
His stare became blank. It was apparent he was back in that place, on the Rose Garden's logo, picking up Aaron Brooks as the crowd nervously roared.

I never liked Turk
he is talented and also a matchup problem, but I question his shot selection and defense.
I also don“t think he fits our style of play.
