KP makes offer tonight at 12:01
Club Blazers tweeted:
*Brian Wheeler is confirming that Kevin Pritchard will be making an offer to a player tonight at 12:01am.
No major hints so we all have to wait until tomorrow to hear who that player is....*

I thought they can only start talking to people tomorrow...

That's true
But they can basically get a deal all about done quickly.
This may also be for a restricted FA like Millsap to see if our offer will be matched.

Will Millsap/Lee/Villanueva settle for a backup role?
Not likely…Detroit & OKC seem more likely to be homes for two of these guys. The problem remains, how much $$$ is KP will to spend on a backup PF…those three will demand starter money.

You can start talking at 12:01am EDT. Most contracts wait until the cap has been set. Makes me think it’s a deal that isn’t going to push our cap space.

so the deal might be done as early as 9:02pm PDT today????

Yeah I was wondering about that.
Are we sure this is in reference to a free agent?

i didn't hear Wheels, so I'm not sure
but I do think Roy and LMA are eligible for extensions tonight. There is no benefit to putting it off, so it is plausible that the Roy max offer is what is made, as a show of commitment.

there is benefit in waiting
If Roy and LMA are extended tonight, it removes Portland’s cap space flexibility. Removing the cap space flexibility limits the free agents Portland can pursue and/or ability to do lopsided trades (eg. rumored Hinrich trade). Thus, there is a benefit to putting off their extensions.
Roy and LMA can be extended (up to the max amount) later in the summer once Portland settles it’s roster with whatever free agents and trades it desires.

absolutely incorrect
extensions for Roy and LMA don’t kick in until the 10-11 season. Signing them no has ZERO impact on cap flexibility anytime before July 1, 2010

If KP is talking to a FA tonight
he most likely have the other part (trade) already agreed to. I don’t see the Blazers spending all the cap space in one FA signing.

Brandon Bass keeps getting more and more interesting.
I wonder if we give him our 3 mil trade exception.
