My Brandon Roy Painting
So way back in March I said I was going to do a Brandon Roy painting. I pretty much finished it up today after I finally recieved/purchased new paint.
I'll go ahead and start out with the sketches.
The old ones were taken from a camera phone so I thought the digitals would be nice for clarity's sake anyways.MOMENT OF TRUTH->
Not satisfied with the color in this photo at all really but it's satisfactory, I think it has a much better emotional impact in person. Brushwork is a lot more visible adds to the intensity.
Me not being 6'2" : ). I'm somewhere between 5'9" and 5'10", I haven't measured for a while. So it's a little bit above my waist in size. Also for the fashionistas out there; no, I don't wear cargo shorts in public, this is one of my painting getups. Also the shirt is a silkscreen print I did a few years back, which is why it looks like there's a Modest Mouse album cover on a sky blue polo tee.
Because looking away from the camera and squinting is cool. PS, I'm near sighted. Although not near sighted enough to paint this painting.
Oh and because I should get into blogging, link to my previous works, the newest one on the page is terrible imo. Probably will rewrite that at some point. Yeah I am aware of the comment spam. The concept I had in mind when writing these entries is the higher and lower level thinking within the male mind and the poignant differences that lie within. If you want to see more of my art, check the flickr page. The sketchbook stuff is all old and put up there for mostly my benefit.
Oh and one more thing, this was going to be a junk drawer :)

I sure wouldn’t.

The Blazers as a whole are far more like my wife than like me in the sense of their physicality on defense.

Fo sho
That’s the man I want leading our team in battle
reminds me of my little sis' work (compliment)
she really likes a lot of color and takes liberties with the countenance in portraits.

I wear them because I refuse to wear a cell phone holster.
My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

I finally gave up my holster a few weeks ago
when I learned in a previous thread that it’s not cool. Plus it’s always in the way.
I get all my style tips from Blazers Edge.

Thanks Ben, though I think my comments about pockets (above)
and Van Gogh (below) are a lot funnier.
Terrific!
Totally Goyesque for me! (I have to keep my Spanish touch, you know)
If he also would be devoring a Laker…

I liked it.
Some biographers are quick to point out people good or bad eyesight, sexual preferences, relationship with their parents, etc, etc, to explain whatever they want about their works or behavior, trying to present guessing as facts. I always remember that some critics explained Doménikos Theotokópoulos´ strange work saying he had astigmatism, others used his mysticism to explain the same and finally others demonstrated that he studied the theory of art of his time. When you´re different people need to find a reason to fit you in their esquems.
When people encounter something uncomfortable, they make it “other.” There is no way they can see that the look in the eyes of Saturn is not madness, but recognition.
As a literature student, biographical explanations are always insulting and, in a way, a form of violence to the artist.

A+ on effort.
I’m not a fan of “art” per say but I dig anything anyone takes pride in.
I just don’t understand how an oil painting by a dead dude can be worth so much……. thinkin picaso I think….. it’s beyond me.
The Faith don't panic, the faith freaks out, burns out farms, and torchs small villages in the name of The Faith.
expanding on "art"
is art the end result or the …creation of .
I’ve many times taken a drawing or sketch, fouled it up beyond repair…. couldn’t free hand the darn thing again, so traced it… and went along with the morph of the trace, until it also was fouled up beyond repair, and repete rinse until I ended up with … a satisfactory result.
is that ….. cheating? I always felt like it was so I always downplayed the stuff I’ve done.

I think many artist are not perfect at drawing
Like that guy who made the famous Obama screenprint, the one where Obama is rendered in 3 block colors. He was sued by AP because he used a photo they printed. He might have just traced it even. You have to be careful now if you use a photo or something from the internet as a basis for a work.
That might not at all what you were talking about and I have no Idea why I wrote this here as a reply to you. I guess it just reminded me of this.
hmm
maybe if we killed Dh and stole the painting…
would that be wrong? Would it matter when we were rich?
mmm money.

yeah it'd be wrong.... I'd feel guilty.
but I do like money…. :)

Could I commission you for a nude Rebecca Harlow?
………. Or Mike Rice?
Life is hilarious.
Did you steal this from Rod Sterling's Night Gallery?

Art is a great investment
I think that art has turned out to be a very smart long term investment, which is why you see those auctions of art selling for insane amounts. It will go up in value, pretty much for sure. In this world an item that is unique and part of our universal conscience is a valuable thing, like how all around the world we have certain old paintings we all recognize. If you are into it you can purchase art from up and coming artist, something you really like, and enjoy it for years, and know that you have made a good investment if you ever need the money, and if not you pass it on to your family.
I don’t know why I wrote that.
very nice art
Sorry i have no money to buy art
