About Hedo:
From Mike Barrett's Blog:
"Concerning Turkoglu, there are only thought to be about three or four teams will a realistic shot at landing him- Detroit (who's going to spend its money on Carlos Boozer most likely), Sacramento, Memphis, and Portland. And, it's thought that Turkoglu will likely be seeking a deal that will pay him a starting salary of about 10 million per season. Do some simple math there and you see that the Blazers are right on the edge of being in that battle.
In my opinion, the Blazers will likely be outbid in this sweepstakes, but that doesn't mean they couldn't still land him. Turkoglu will want to go to a contender, and of that short list, only Portland fits the bill. He'll want a clear-cut starting role, something he could have in Portland. And, like all players, he wants to part of a winning environment, play in a great atmosphere, and live in a great city."
All those points are GREAT to hear for people who like TurkeyGlue. If he decides to come to Portland, AWESOME. Let's trade or give away my "drop" players for future draft picks.
IF WE DO GET OUTBID that means money is the #1 factor for Hedo. If that is the case, doesn't it seem like we could figure out a way to package my "drop" players and 2nd rounders in a multiple team trade that has Orlando signing TurkeyGlue for say $12-13 Mil? A trade that has him end up in Portland?
Multiple team trade ideas for this scenario are wlecome...
Shout out to Sophia, Tyler, and Clark

UPDATE: 1:30 PM 6/3
• I am assuming both Bayless and Blake improve this summer, and then Bayless takes the starting position from Blake at some point next season, not simply having it handed to him. Which in a sense makes an improved Blake that backup veteran PG we all want.
• I'd switch Freeland for Kop, sure
• With Blake hard to move this summer (shoulder surgery) and KP high on Bayless, I don't think KP brings in a vet PG till next trade deadline/summer '10 (if ever)
• I am assuming that somehow Batum gets in the rotation a minimum 15 minutes per game. But see him as more of a long term Blazer permanently replacing TurkeyGlue after a few seasons
• The development of Oden is important to the improvement of our PG's and how they are portrayed by us fans
And NO I didn't vote "10"

I like the poll
Can’t quite explain it, but I felt very satisfied in being given the opportunity to rate the moves on a scale of one to ten.

Regarding our unsigned draft picks
I would put the chance that Freeland will be on the roster next season high (ca. 70%). KP seems legitimately excited about him as a player to round out the rotation on power forward (and as an emergency center).
However I would put the chance that Koponen will be on the roster very low (ca. 5%). In fact, it’s likely his rights will be thrown into some deal to facilitate it and get rid of the small cap hold (he was rumored at the deadline in a potential Nets deal). He had no significant impact on his team in Italy last year, and will need several more to become a legitimate NBA candidate.
I agree about the players you would like to drop, and probably the most improved ones. But while I really like Bayless he is at best at least a year of playing regularly away from taking the starting spot. So starting point guard would be the first position I would address.
If acquiring Hedo to get a veteran and make Travis and Martell available for later trades is the way to go that might work. But Hedo will eat up all cap space and is not a good defender, so KP would have to think long and hard about adding him.

Re: Regarding our unsigned draft picks
• Yes, Freeland makes more sense after reading your comments
• I am hoping Bayless and Blake both improve but Bayless improves enough to steal the job away from Blake. I am sorta with the “free bayless” campaign
• I no that concerned about Hedo’s defense considering the overall effectiveness of our teamdefense. And I think KP would say his offensinve impact makes up for it.
(!) I don’t like the sentence in which you included the name “Martell”

He played in Bologna behind Earl Boykins, and saw limited minutes
He was their Sergio/Bayless. And not always playing on point guard, but instead used as a SG next to Boykins when they wanted to play him more. His assist numbers (0.8 to 0.9 turnovers per game) and three point percentage (24%) were bad. Boykins is now a free agent, so if Koponen is lucky Boykins moves on and he gets the starting spot, although they have a young Italian prospect who they might prefer to develop. It’s just not a very good situation for him that he has to overcome or he won’t see much development. http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Petteri-Koponen-1273/stats/
Freeland did, and now is a regular rotation player on his team getting about half the available minutes which KP liked a lot.

Definetly Freeland
over Hansbrough. I like Hedo as a fit for us and I like possibly signing Jeff Adrein with an early second rounder.
Curtis Jerrells is interesting pick also he could come with our 38th pick. He would be a nice compliment to Bayless in the future

I would be devestated with this offseason
for it means something terrible would’ve happened to KP, and or KP’s brain. Bringing in Koponen, drafting Psycho T, making the free agent you get a 31 year old dude that takes tons of minutes away from Batum, starting Bayless when he’s not even ready to be a backup, then moving Batum to the third string cutting off all of his minutes. This offseason would set this team back 3 or 4 years.

PG sichi
I have confidence in Bayless improving and we all know how high KP is on him….might be false confidence but we’ll find out come November.
How short term would Hedo have to have? Are you talking about needing room to sign Roy and Aldridge? If we acquired him I was thinking 3-4 years.
About the vet PG: I think as our other positionsimprove this summer, our PG’s will look that much better. Not saying I wouldn’t want Hinrich or Kidd, but I don’t think there’s anyway we could trade Blake this summer coming off of a shoulder surgery. We know KP is going to overvalue Bayless in any trade so it’s not likely he’s out. And adding a vet PG with Blake and Bayless would work but is kinda a head scratcher. TurkeyGlue can play point when needed. I don’t know I could see it both ways, but if a vet PG is added instead I would keep Outlaw.

Smokescreen
KP just wants the world to think that he is high on Bayless.
Not sure why anyone trusts what KP says he feels anyway, it’s not like he has been entirely honest with the world in the past.

Don’t you think Mike Barrett would either:
A. Not be in on it, thus have no clue about KPs intent
or
B. Be in on it, and go along with the smokescreen.

Not if you heard the conversation we had
A. MB is very good at reading situations and people’s intent, and also knows everyone and says everyone is saying the same thing. He also got an update on Bayless yesterday and talked about how he has already improved.
B. I am also very good at reading people and there is no doubt in my mind he’s telling the truth.

Would love to add Hedo
What I really like about Turkoglu, in addition to his obvious threat as an outside shooter, is that he is very strong at taking the ball to the basket and he is an excellent ball handler. In fact, Orlando frequently utilizes him as a point forward and initiates the offense through him. We would have 3 players in our starting lineup through which we could run the offense (Blake, Brandon and Hedo).
With Hedo as our staring SF, I could live with another year of Blake as the PG (and hopefully Bayless develops and becomes the starter the next season). Defense would be weakened somewhat with Turkoglu compared to Batum, but the upgrades in terms of offense, veteran leadership and playoff experience more than make up for it.

I won't be disappointed
if this was the offseason moves, they would not be my first choice, but would improve the team.
I also think some posters are getting confused, the OP is not saying we need to start Bayless when he isn’t ready, he is saying he is hoping that Bayless comes to camp next year, vastly improved and ready to take the job from Blake, not be handed the job.
The only thing I don’t like about this would be Batum’s minutes decreased, I could handle him being move to the bench, but he still needs 20 mpg.

I agree, I still see Batum getting 15-18 minutes a game in this lineup
I don’t think we ever see a drastically better season than his rookie season, but he is a playmaker, so versatile, and he needs to be on the court min 15 per

To think he won't improve
is ludicrous. The opinion I’ve formed over the years is that 19 year olds normally improve in the NBA, often drastically. That 15 min per comment doesn’t seem right to me either but maybe I’m just a Batum homer. He needs 25 at this age.

Personally I think we can get an even better player than Hedo for our many assets. Not being arrogant or homeristic—-I just seriously think we can. But yeah, I like the thinking. Your proposal is quite realistic, which is what I like in off-season move proposals. :-)

In the end the only 2 moves that
I see going down are either Hedo or Kidd. Even though I feel good about Blake if KP is going to make a move I would prefer Kidd for these reasons:
On a starting/crunch time lineup it would ideally be the big 3 and a PG and a SF. With the big 3 as constructed, we need one more perimeter shot creator and one perimeter defender for the opposing teams best threat. The main reason that Outlaw was on the floor in the 4th was due to the fact that besides Roy, he was the only other player who could get his own shot on this team, leaving Blake to be the defender.
Hedo is a great shot creator but average on defense which would leave the D stopper position to the PG who at around 6’ would not be able to guard 66-75% of the league due to the height differential.
However if we were able to grab Kidd he or Bayless could be our shot creator and with the handcheck rules as they are they would be the most logical choice. Blake is good but he cannot finish at the rim the way Bayless and Kidd can.
By having the shot creator at the point that leaves the D stopper position to the SF. Being that most SFs are 6’6 to 6’10 they have the greatest range of players that they can defend.
Quick PGs are defended best with great team D due to handcheck rules, or good helpside athletic SFs of Cs to support the defending PG and larger slower PGs can be nullified by a long athletic wingman such as Batum. Add on to the fact that Nic can also handle SGs and other SFs relatively well for a rookie and once he puts on some weight to hold his ground he will be set.
So in conclusion, to me it would see that having a versatile defensive SF in Batum and a shot creating PG in Kidd or Bayless would be a better option than a defensive PG (which is an oxymoron anyways) and a shot creating SF in Hedo.

I also see Kidd or hedo as the only moves happening
And i’d be happy with both. Possibly more happy with Kidd. But more likely is Hedo.
I’m a little confused…
• Don’t you believe Roy is/will be that defensive stopper you talk about?
• Isn’t Roy already that crunchtime PG shot creator?
The NBA is all about matchups, I see our crunch time lineup being one of the following:
Roy
Batum/Bayless/Rudy
Hedo
LA
Oden

it is more that
I do not want that added responsibility falling on Roy. He can do it but only in limited bouts against Joe Johnson only jk. I want most of his energy going to scoring on the offensive end, while Nic can focus his attention on the D. I think Roy is s good defender but he is far from a defensive stopper.
True Roy is the crunchtime shot creator, but this team needs another player who can get his own shot be it crunchtime or any time. Bayless with his driving and Kidd with his passing add that extra level to our offense but in the end my argument has nothing to do with the team O but rather with the team D.
Everyone went nuts about how jitterbug-quick scoring PG Brooks played against us and even against the l*kers he played pretty good as well and we need to remember that Bayless was chosen 10 slots ahead of him. I trust KP so far on his 1st 1st round selections(#s 4,6,1 and 11 soon) and the later picks have been pretty good as well (Rudy, Nic) and Bayless can be at least as good as Brooks. Remember they has a vet PG they got rid of halfway through the season as well and it did not phase them much.
Everyone pretty much agrees that we need another shot creator, without sacrificing the perimeter D we already have and the question is where do we get him from, the PG or the SF slot? There are obvious D concerns in having the PG as the designated D’er on the team rather than a versitile SF who can handle more players. That is why Artest, Battier, Prince, Marion a few years ago and GWallace are considered some of the best D’ers in the league. They have size, length and quickness to D a lot of players.
Roy is too valuable to pit against k*be, or Bron for 38 mins when you have a willing and talented SF who would let Roy do what he does best: score.

I gave it a 6, but I don't see that scenario happening
I’ve heard that Petteri and Joel are both years away still from having any impact in the NBA. Hansbrough might be good, or he might be awful. I’m not sold on him having any kind of impact in the NBA anywhere near what he had in college. I’d imagine Hedo is going to resign with Orlando, why would he leave? Unless I missed something.

add to replace drop list
I would add A.McDyess to your add list and maybe Hinrick. and then I would be very excited about your add list replacing your drop list. And that is still only 14 players under contract so you still have an open roster spot. That you could leave open or do what ever the team felt the need for.
