dang......
I’ll miss his reenactments he makes towards the ref after a call. Thos always make me chuckle. He even was doing them on the bench in game 1 against our Blazers this year.
Hopefully the Great Wall hasn’t comletely crumbled

What a total bummer
I feel for Yao, it’s not his fault, his body is just betraying him.
I hope he is able to come back from this, like his other foot breaks. He doesn’t deserve it.
Get better, Yao.

Stunning in the sense that you never expect a 28-year old to be done. I guess it could’ve been seen coming, but he’s so young.
by Cablinasian on Jun 29, 2009 11:37 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I imagine he'll come back in a year, and be a Bill Walton type player.
Maybe in Houston. Though that would be painful.
So we go from one hair short of contention to what? Rebuilding? Lovely.
"So do you keep open 3pt FG percentage?"
"Yeah, we'd have everything you'd want, Bill."
"I hate you."

Rebuilding? Really? Man, that’s depressing. Morey will do a good job with it, though.
Well, we know that Pritchard is now on the phone offering Morey every conceivable trade there is for Shane Battier.
by Cablinasian on Jun 29, 2009 11:45 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Shane might be available too.
Im kind of sick. I don’t see us keeping Artest now.
Someone needs to collect TMac and Ron (S&T) from us and go for it. NO, maybe?

I doubt it with Shinn’s financial status. The only moves they will be making are to shed salary, as they are over the brink as it stands currently.
Would it be feasible to let Battier go in a salary dump? He is getting up there in age and has a pretty hefty price tag. Travis Outlaw’s expiring deal for Shane? I don’t know Shane’s trade value to Houston, with his age and contract.

Artest...
Interesting, bc I thought the biggest reason we wouldn’t get him is bc Houston would never let him go, this could seriously change things, annnnnd look at the teams with cap space, we would really be the most obvious fit (need at SF, also a “contender,” meaning we’re the only team with cap space that could SIGNIFICANTLY have a risk like that pay off…_

maybe he should go to euro league or something where they play less harsh schedule

we must look on the bright side, I'll bet you KP has had the words "Ron Artest" at least pop into his head in the last 20 min

I hope it was more Shane Battier.
there is no bright side to a great player having a horrible injury

Is he available now? Hope so!

I am not happy Yao got hurt and wouldn't wish it upon him, but, lol...
I find it amusing that you list Shane Battier right above your “mini-correction” on my lack of tact…Battier works too, but we wouldn’t have to give up anything for Artest as UFA, KP may once again look like a genious in waiting so long to make a move

Multiple breaks in his foot?
only 28? Who else do we know that may be on that same path?
I have been saying that Martell is extremely worrisome and this is the reason why.
“Yao is 325”
there has actually been research done that actually the jumpshooting motion produces the most amount of stress on the knee and ankle joints.
Collegiate stats:
NCAA Arizona:
Jerryd Bayless: 19.7pts, 4.0 asts, 3to
NAIA Wisconsin-Stevens Point
Terry Porter: 19.7pts, 4.3 asts, 2.33to

We'll just haveta' wait and see
This has been a yearly concern with Yao for a while now. Martell’s may be a one year thang.
It’s worrisome, but not the same.

Plus Martell isn't a big part of our future plans.
He probably wouldn’t be able to be a starter and his best case scenario is that Rudy is traded so that he can back Roy.
My scenario for him is dedicated sharpshooter at this point. Maybe a James Jones at best.

It sucks big time
I like Yao a lot. I hope he comes back from this injury and can play for a few more years, but it looks like he will probably never be the same player.

This is a really sad story if true.
And I feel very bad for the Rockets. You hate to lose your best player as he’s entering his prime. I hope this isn’t true….
But the Blazer honk in me wishes this had happened before the 1st round series last year a little. ;D

Not good for the Rockets.
And I would argue, not good for the NBA.

Its too bad this will be the end of Yao Ming, and probably the Rockets for the immediate future. Rockets fans can tak solace that they have a damn good GM and some tradable assets.

So is Greg the Started on the Western all star team this next year?
With Yao and Shaq gone not a lot left. Bynum would have to improve alot to get the slot, who then?

by Garden of ODEN on Jun 29, 2009 2:20 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Andrew Bynum is probobly the early favorite along with Al Jefferson
Greg Oden is not to be counted out, nor is Nene.
by jksnake99 on Jun 29, 2009 2:35 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
It is public voting.
Bynum unless Oden improves a lot.
If it was from coaches I would agree with Nene and Jefferson being the big ones.
by staylost on Jun 29, 2009 2:46 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
good point
Bynum has to be considered the heavy favorite to start, with the 3 I mentioned, perhaps along with Andris Biedrins and Marcus Camby, candidates to be the backup C.
by jksnake99 on Jun 29, 2009 2:49 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Oden has the hype machine, so if he even averages 15/10 the media will embrace him. If that happens, he’ll be an all-star.
by Cablinasian on Jun 29, 2009 2:51 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
If he
Plays as “well” as he did this recent season, but is able to stay out of obscene foul trouble whether through added experience and being in shape, he’ll likely average the same stats. But being on the court more makes it looks nicer.
His per-36 should hold steady, and if he plays 30 minutes he’ll be an allstar.
I can’t see Jefferson being one, both because of his injury and being on such a bad team. I don’t think they’ll reward him with an allstar nod at center.
I predict Oden and Bynum will make the allstar game, with Yao winning the vote and the league/coaches putting one or the other in the starting spot. I don’t mind either way; Oden making it is enough of a positive sign.

Nene had a better season than either of them last year, it should be noted.
by jksnake99 on Jun 29, 2009 3:14 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yes.
Yes he did.
I think he deserved to be an allstar this recent season, and if he keeps his play up he has a good shot at being one this next season. I’m a big fan of how Nene played and I don’t think he gets enough credit for both how he played, and coming back from a string of unlucky injuries.
I’m gonna root for Nene and Oden makin’ it. I don’t think Camby has any shot whatsoever, even if traded to a good team, and I think Jefferson’s rep has sunk pretty low even without the injury. Biedrins will continue to get less minutes than he should under Nelly.
I’m hoping for more, but I can foresee a situation where Oden HASN’T really REALLY improved, but is just able to stay on the court, so his numbers look nicer to the layman. That’s the least I see happening, though.
