Warming up to Kidd
Yeah, he can't guard quick PG's. However, his rebounding from the guard position, leadership, BBIQ, and newly discovered touch from beyond the arc would be ideal.
I can't think of a better mentor for Bayless who would also be able to step aside once Bayless is ready to start. I'd do 3 years 30 million for Kidd. We'd still have Blake and Outlaw to trade if we wanted any other upgrades as well.

Nice pro-Kidd ammunition...
In addition to the potential Kidd/Bayless chemistry/bond, how about the potentially more remarkable Kidd/Roy combo ?! I remember noticing some smiles between Roy and Kidd back in NJ days as opponents. If those two could work together, how good for our scorers… What could Kidd do for Oden ? Assists anyone ?? I like how the article mentioned Kidd’s effect on team confidence….. Oden deficiency: confidence. I continue to be intrigued.
Oh yeah, I’m rather older than Kidd, so not gonna get a lot of sympathy on the “time to die and get it over with” sentiment… :-) “Old” is generally 5 years older than you are.

My only problem with Kidd
Is that I am not among those who think Bayless can be made into a PG. HOWEVER, I hold out hope for Koponen – so can we bring him over to experience the mentoring? We could let Virtus Bologna have Patty Mills instead…

Acquiring Kidd puts our eggs in Bayless' basket.
Kidd wont be here in the midst of our championship window. If Bayless does turn out to be the guy, then it works. But given what we saw last season, I don’t think that is a guarantee. High risk/high reward can pay off, but can we afford the risk if this fails? Who would be our PG if the worst Bayless can’t cut it? Mills? A mediocre PG acquired through the mid-level exception? Trade off one of our core guys? I don’t like the cost of failure versus the payoff of success.

He's 36, but he's still pretty effective. I think he'll be at least a good backup in 3 years.
At the same time, the idea that he probably wouldn’t be the starting PG of the future, so you’d like to get him for relatively cheap. That being said, Kidd might be the kind of player who will take less money if he feels he can win a title with a team. It’s definitely something to consider. I like the way he fits on this team and the way he fits in the locker room.

not much riskier than anything else
Kidd can give us 2 solid years playing at a high level. If Bayless doesn’t show something this year, we can keep looking while still having a very solid starter in Kidd.
Players the caliber of Hinrich (maybe even him himself) will still be available in a year if need be.
How did you guys win that?

Been growing on me for awhile
I continue to say:
1) Harris
2) Kidd
I think people seriously underestimate the positives he would bring to this team. Bayless gets a year working as his backup. If it appears he isn’t going to grow into a PG, we buy ourselves some time to find another one, while still being highly competitive in the meantime.

he makes others better…nuff said, perfect fit for us. Look what he did for Devin Harris’s game, he can do the same if not better for bayless

What did he do for Harris's game?
I guess he got him traded to NJ, where they built the team round him…

Are you warming up to him because he's like a grandfather?

Here’s my problems with Kidd.
(1) His defense at the point guard position has declined. He is now most effective with a smaller backcourt make (i.e. Jason Terry) who can guard the point, allowing him to take the wing.
(2) He’s pretty ancient and all signs point to him staying in Dallas or joining a top contender.
(3) His shooting percentages are inflated because the defense runs away from him in an attempt to entice him to shoot.
(4) He absolutely imploded in the Denver series, turning the ball over at an alarming rate.
(5) He needs the ball in his hands to be most effective.
(6) He has past legal issues. Pritchard definitely frowns upon this in his acquisitions.
(7) He would take all of our cap space.
