OK, I tried to assemble a list of players we could get via trade or free agency that were at least remotely plausible.
After the jump, there is a list of the player, their status, or their salary.

SALARY DUMP PLAYERS
Andrei Kirilenko $16,452,000 WAY expensive, Russian...
Jason Richardson $13,333,332 3rd scorer
Steve Nash $13,125,000 Yeah, right...
Antawn Jamison $11,641,095 See above
Manu Ginobili $10,728,130 Spurs prob keep now, plays Roy's position.

Gerald Wallace $9,500,000 Would help against athletic wings and be backup PF
Kirk Hinrich $9,500,000 Blake 2.0
Boris Diaw $9,000,000 Swiss Army knife, cream cheese for brains
Devin Harris $7,735,000 Dreeeeaaam a little dream...

Earl Watson $6,600,000 Backup PG
Luke Ridnour $6,500,000 Backup PG
Jason Maxiell $5,000,000 Backup PF
Luke Walton $4,840,000 World Champion...

Ronny Turiaf $4,250,000 French
Amir Johnson $3,666,667 Bucks just got him...
Kris Humphries $3,200,000 Nah
Andray Blatche $3,000,000 Erratic backup PF
Craig Smith $2,762,500 Minnesota has too many PFs
Brandan Wright $2,671,440 Skinny
Renaldo Balkman $2,112,417 Defense on the wing
Josh Boone $2,056,968 ?
Jordan Farmar $1,947,240 his ears led the league in rebounding
Josh Powell $959,111 Maybe cut to make room for Ariza/Odom
Joey Dorsey $881,820 Stupid, trashed Oden once.
Shavlik Randolph $826,269 Internet Hero.
Keep in mind that the under the cap teams competing with us in '09 for free agents or all ready signed players are
the Thunder, Grizz, Pistons, Raptors, and maybe the Hawks. All other teams can only offer MLE, unless they have
the player under contract (RFA's subject to Gilbert Arenas Provision).
We need a SF and a PG, these teams have:
Thunder : KD and Westbrook, Probably will look for a Center or true PF, maybe open to trading Green if they get
David Lee.
Grizz: O.J. Mayo/Conley, and Gay. Need better quality big men. Better owners.
Pistons: Stuckey and Prince, Prob will look for bigs or a SG to replace Hamilton.
Raptors: Calderon and Marion. Need a Center, will try to re-up Marion.
Hawks: Could use a PG if Bibby walks.
Championship level teams that can offer MLE are:
Orlando: PG is set, need PF that can shoot like Wallace, especially if Turk walks.
Cleveland:May want Kidd, have Mo Williams though. Need scoring wing.
L.A.: Needs a PG, possible Kidd sutor.
San Antonio: Need bigs, BAD.
Maybe Houston: Could use a better PG, a first aid kit, scoring.
Boston: Need backup PG, need to resign FA's. Need a backup wing.
So the FA game of musical chairs spins around again. Our biggest threat to Kidd/Miller are their teams and
NY/LA/Cleveland (for Kidd).
Odom and Ariza likely stay unless Detroit offers Ariza silly money, which means that Prince may become available.
I'm trying to figure out who sets the market for Hedo's services. Maybe Sacto? I don't think he gets the 5/50.
EDIT: via HoopsWorld Here are the teams, along with their approximate cap space in parentheses:
Detroit Pistons ($18 million),
Memphis Grizzlies ($20 million),
OKC Thunder ($15 million),
Portland Trail Blazers ($8 million),
Sacramento Kings ($12 million),
Atlanta Hawks ($9 million).
Any other thoughts?

I would put Calderon on the list of maybemaybe salary dump for young talent players, especially if they decide to rebuild without Bosh. He’s 28, might be outside their window.

Jason Kidd is “Rumored to be strongly considering joining Bryant in Los Angeles.” -OL
Which is depressing because although he may be getting older he still makes everyone on his team better. That basically means Portland would have at least the second worst PG rotation in the Western conference.
PLAYOFF CONTENDERS
Hornets- Chris Paul, Derron Collison
Nuggets- Chauncy Billups, Anthony Carter
Jazz- Derron Williams, Brevin Knight
Spurs- Tony Parker, George Hill
Rockets- Aaron Brooks, Kyle Lowry
Lakers- Jason Kidd?, Derek Fisher, Jordan Farmar, Shannon Brown
Mavericks-Jason Kidd?, Jose Juan Barea, Jason Terry
Suns- Steve Nash, Goran Dragic
Warriors- Monta Ellis, Stephon Curry, C.J Watson
Blazers- Steve Blake, Jerryd Bayless, Patric Mills
____________________________________________________________________________________LOTTERY
Thunder- Russle Westbrook, Earl Watson
Grizzlies- Mike Conley, Mike Wilks
Timberwolves- Ricky Rubio, Jonny Flynn
Clippers- Baron Davis, Mike Taylor
Kings- Tyreke Evans, Beno Udrih, Sergio Rodriguez
At the very least we would have the worst PG rotation in the playoffs. Good Lord, I hope something good happens before the start of the season.

I don't know if the Lakers would benefit the most from Kidd
They use the Triangle Offense which doesn’t rely on the traditional PG role for distributing the ball. They don’t want a PG to make assists, but to hang out at the arc and knock down shots. While Fish hasn’t been a deadeye lately, he has been pretty clutch.
Kidd’s main strengths are his ball-distribution and his defense. He’s not the best-shooting PG in the league and his strengths may go relatively unused.
by ninjasocks on Jun 28, 2009 7:01 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Normaly I would agree.
Except Jason Kidd is extremely smart and he hits his open shots. He’s also played well with Kobe in the past and both Kobe and Phil love him.
I’m sure he would somehow fit himself into the triangle offense like a glove. Plus the Lakers started to run more pick and role type stuff against the Magic in the finals, so it’s not like they couldn’t adjust.

Jason Kidd is extremely smart and he hits his open shots
Apparently he’s had a good last couple of years at the arc. He’s a career 34.2% shooter from the 3, but he’s averaged over 40% since he’s been in Dallas.
I guess I should be consulting Basketball Reference (instead of my gut) more often before I post.

I actually do find the Kidd option interesting ..
Sure he is looking for his championship moment… where to go ??
Jumping on the Kobie bandwagon… how dull is that ? (ain’t gonna happen anyway)
The guy with the toughness and intensity to totally captivate his new protegee… JayBay… could be. And, well, yes, he is a Berkeley guy, which besides the personal appeal to myself, also suggests he is not a LA guy… The northwest is much more in tune with the northern Cal vibe. What could a hungry Kidd do with the rest of the Blazers now ? I can imagine good things. And, as has been pointed out, if Portland gets him, nobody else does (especially LA). I think we would get a legitimate team buzz bringing Kidd into the mix, for fans and players alike. A veteran anchor to bring the kids home? Just maybe. As we know, we kept our “powder dry” (draft day) for something, I could get behind taking the Kidd shot. And I am thinking he appreciates the excitment and potential that is the current Blazers roster.
Our team USA gold medalist would not be dull.

(1) Kidd’s defense at the point guard position has declined. He is now most effective with a smaller backcourt make (i.e. Jason Terry) who can guard the point, allowing him to take the wing.
(2) He’s pretty ancient and all signs point to him staying in Dallas or joining a top contender.
(3) His shooting percentages are inflated because the defense runs away from him in an attempt to entice him to shoot.
(4) He absolutely imploded in the Denver series, turning the ball over at an alarming rate.
(5) He needs the ball in his hands to be most effective.
(6) He has past legal issues. Pritchard definitely frowns upon this in his acquisitions.
(7) He would take all of our cap space.

Marquis Daniels, Brandon Bass, Nate Robinson, Chris Anderson
Four second-level names. Marquis Daniels really impressed me with his defense last season, his ability to get to the hole and his rebounding. I’m sure we could get him for cheap. I realize we have a glut of SGs and SFs, but none with his skill set.
I’d love to see a Bayless/Robinson backcourt for just one game. Talk about some bravado…
Anderson is a pipe dream, but he is exactly what we need off the bench. Pairing him with Oden or Pryz would be an iron curtain. Denver will never let him go.
Bass is exactly what we need in a backup SF, but I think we set our fate with Pendergraph.

One stop shopping Charlotte Gerald Wallace (trade) and Raymond Felton (RFA)
Not a huge Felton fan, but KP likes players with size for their position who can score/shoot.

Felton is short for his position and can't shoot
So, thank KP, KP won’t like him. Felton is 5’11.5" without shoes. He’s beefy, but it’s mostly just ham n’ cheese.
He also shoots 28% from three-point land. You did score-slash-shoot though, and he can score inefficiently, so you’re right.
But lordy me oh my I would love some Gerald Wallace on our team. If Felton had a bad contract, I would eat it to get Wallace. Thankfully, the Robertcats don’t like Felton either and haven’t given him a bad deal that we’d have to eat.
Even though Wallace is their best player I could see them moving him because of his numerous injury/concussion concerns (which is the biggest worry I got with Wallace, but it’s the bad to go with the good) and years left on his contract. We’d be getting a player in his prime who would play mostly SF and some backup PF, and be an elite defender/havoc-maker/dunker.
He isn’t a great shooter, but he can hit it, which means the defense must guard him, which means the spacing on the floor is what we desire for Roy/LMA/Oden. I bet he’ll hit a lot more with how wide open he’ll be, and the corner 3 is a eezy peezy.

GW ftw!
I’m all about GW, I have him in my NBA 2k9 franchise and he is sick rotating from the 2-4 positions wreaking havoc.
I really wish NM would run a more uptempo offense/defense though, we have young stallions who all can run, are long and can play D-why not full court trap/press and run-gun? *sigh

Why do we "need a SF"???
There are a couple of guys I’d start over Batum, but not many. It is pretty common for 20yr olds to improve in their second (and third) seasons, so the bar has to be pretty high. We’ve also got one of the league’s best 6th men behind him in Outlaw. Sure both have flaws, but we’re not too likely to pick up LBJ, so we’re going to have flaws no matter what.
A point-forward would give us the ability to play a shoot-first PG (Bayless) in the back-court, which could be interesting. A guy to rebounds and scraps might also be nice, but most of them have trouble defending fast wings, so I’d rather get that at PF.

I am just throwing my 2 cents in
Batum isnt even close to ready. To pass up on someone who could help us win a championship in the near future for the prospect of Nic someday becoming great is in my opinion insane. Look he is a good player, an excellent prospect and I hope we keep him and let him learn as a backup. But he is not starter quality, and not even CLOSE yet, and I am in utter amazement with how many people here love him as a championship team starter. not going to happen. I think someday he could be that, but not for at least 4-5 years.
