Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

The 2008 documentary, Gunning For That #1 Spot, produced by a couple of the Beastie Boys, is now on Hulu (free of charge). It's about a high school all-star game in Rucker Park in 2006 featuring 24 of the best high school basketball prospects.

It includes interviews with future first-round picks like Jennings, Tyreke Evans, Bayless, Love, Beasley and others as they prepare for an NBA future.

It's a pretty awesome movie that gives you some insight into how players prepare to be NBA prospects.

Ya, I was watching this last night on Hulu

Pretty fun watch. We gotta Bayless nickname from it: “Pay-Up”

Michael Beasley seemed a bit “Mike Tyson crazy” to me though. Anybody else get that vibe?

Is this the one

where Bayless alreadt lives in a huge ass house and has diamonds everywhere and drives a range rover all before the draft?

by TrailBlazerChief on Jun 27, 2009 4:39 PM PDT reply actions

Yup

Meanwhile, Tyreke Evans and Lance Stephenson are sort of growing up in the hood, with the hopes and dreams of the whole community riding on their shoulders.

There’s some interesting stuff in there about the financial aspect of the game too. Shoe companies are looking to recruit players in the 5th-6th-7th grade and a bunch of the players have full-time personal coaches.

Stephenson has had a lot of issues since the video. He’s currently trying to find a college to take him. He may end up being in Florida with Isiah.

I really felt kind of bad for Stephenson

They showed him growing up in the projects, without a lot of the support that other players were getting. His parents were around, but they didn’t seem to provide him nearly the support that Bayless got. Since then, he has been arrested for sexual assault (groping a fellow student) and may not be able to make the next step and fulfill his potential.

it definitely seemed like the circle surrounding him was a little shady. Really talented kid, really bad situation…… it would be sad if that stopped him from being what he has the potential to be.

Or Kevin Love in Lake Oswego

Dictated, not read. The management.

by Samsara on Jun 27, 2009 7:07 PM PDT up reply actions

Sure

Are Love and Bayless’ upbringings so different? Probably not.

I think there is probably an element of race that enters into our discussions of athletes and money, whether we realize it or not.

yeah nobody has

a range rover at Lake Oswego HS they all have Mercedes and BMWs

Cmon now this is Oregon, not Arizona!!!

Collegiate stats:

NCAA Arizona:
Jerryd Bayless: 19.7pts, 4.0 asts, 3to

NAIA Wisconsin-Stevens Point
Terry Porter: 19.7pts, 4.3 asts, 2.33to

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
