Is it even possible to trade Rudy?
Although nobody wants to trade him, his name has been dropped in rumors all over the place. If one of these trades actually happened and Rudy was traded, would he have any leverage in those discussions? If we traded him to one of the less attractive small market teams and he was unhappy, could he just leave the NBA and sign with a european team?

He’s got a contract he needs to honor. He couldn’t walk away before the end of his contract and play in Europe.

Memphis let him out of his contract
…he didn’t just jump ship. I don’t know if they retained his rights should he ever return, or if it was a mutual tearing-up of the contract, like Derek Fisher with Utah.

He signed a 1-year deal for less than 1M
There was speculation about a promise of a substantially bigger contract after that, but they only gave him a qualifying offer and had to sign before the spanish national team started camp before the Olympics and had huge offers from Europe.
He honored his contract and ran off to Europe to get something around the MLE
Nobody expects a Spanish Acquisition!

Thus, Memphis sucks. I really liked Navarro as an NBA player.

this is blasphemous.
"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.
"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

Unless we get Devin Harris, Rudy is going nowhere

Agreed
It would be better to hold onto Rudy for at least 18 months before getting serious about dealing him, depending on how PT issues at the SG sort themselves out.
But if there was a deal in place for a top-5 caliber PG (like Harris) then you can’t keep Rudy off the table

I would like to institute a new rule:
Don’t trade people who were productive as rookies until after their 2nd year. It’s a big difference coming over from Europe or college to the NBA, and it’s hard to imagine that any rookie is really aware of what he needs to work on or how hard he needs to work in the offseason. Now that Rudy, Greg, Nic, and Jerryd have a year under their belt, I’m really interested in seeing how they grow during the offseason. I think that, unless you have a trade you just have to do, waiting a year will let you have a better idea of what you are really giving up in any trade.
If you ever hear of someone punching out a girl scout and stealing her Samoas, it was me
