Jason Quick thinks the Blazers are looking at Gerald Wallace, Antonio McDyess, Andre Miller.
It's all speculation, but it's Interesting that he talks about them possibly getting McDyess or Wallace. Either of those guys would have made Dejuan Blair entirely redundant.

Sound theory that how well Bayless does distributing will determine how much money we spend ( if any ) on a PG.
by dario argento on Jun 26, 2009 8:54 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
distributing in summer league that is.
by dario argento on Jun 26, 2009 8:54 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
summer league is 13-19th
That may be a week too late to wait to make an offer on a FA PG
maybe not too late for a trade, though

I really like the idea of Rasheed coming back to play on the Blazers
But that’s just me. Although I hear he wants 8mil a year or something crazy like that.
As for Gerald Wallace didn’t we almost trade for him at the trade deadline but we whiffed because of including Batum?

Sheed is going to be bummed out
When he finds out he aint worth half that on the open market, then have a lame rant press conference and retire.

I think as long as Outlaw is out of the picture
G Wall would be a great pickup who could replace Outlaw’s scoring. He also brings what Trout never could, namely defense and rebounding.
Dictated, not read. The management.

I don't want Wallace if it costs us Batum to be honest
We aren’t giving Jordan a guy on another team that he compared to Scottie Pippen.
Patience :)

Jordan isn't exactly the best judge of talent.

I've always thought very highly of Gerald Wallace
but people have always shot him down for his lack of jumpshooting ability.
The Kings have the best bench I’ve seen. There are easily 14 guys on this team good enough for every bench in the league. Now if we could only get some starters, I’d totally jizz in my pants.

I think Quick was trying to give everyone hints about Gerald Wallace and Ray Felton at last year’s trading deadline (remember he made a big fuss about a SF and PG for a nonplayoff team in the East that we were considering trading for, but he wouldn’t say who).
I love Wallace as long as you have some depth behind him and some three point shooters around him. The guy is a maniac.

Let me get my StateFarm agent on the line.
"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.
"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

He later said that was for Luol Deng + Kirk Hinrich
But I would prefer Wallace over Deng, so…

help - I'm stuck in a hotel lobby w'out sound on this computer
could someone give a short summary? Also I know there have been some hearing impaired Blazer fans that occassionally ask for this too.
thanks

Basically
1. Decent draft, no rash decisions. Still lots of roster space as well as cap space
2. Cap space —> decent FA.
3. Some FA includes Hedo Turkoglu and Andre Miller.
The Kings have the best bench I’ve seen. There are easily 14 guys on this team good enough for every bench in the league. Now if we could only get some starters, I’d totally jizz in my pants.

McDyess would not have made Blair redundant
Far from it. I think he could teach Blair how to play at a high NBA level without much athleticism. Dyess has continued to be an effective NBA player, even with shreds of knees. I was hoping by the time FA was over we would end up at the 4 with…
Aldridge/McDyess/Blair

Blair would have been playing zero minutes a game for the next two years.
That’s pretty redundant.

Osmosis
That’s how you pick up NBA skill while playing 0.5 minutes per game.

I'd love to have gerald wallace
I’m not sure what we’d have to give up to get him, but I love to watch that guy.

We'll just take Pendergraph instead of Blair
Redundancy clearly wasn’t an issue for Blazers management nor should it be.

GW would be starting SF on this team.
Not sure how that would make DaJuan redundant.
by howlingfantods on Jun 27, 2009 12:27 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
GW is a terrific PF.
He’s probably best at that position, but Charlotte made the decision to move him to SF a year ago, using him at PF for limited minutes in an attempt to keep him healthy. That’s pretty much what he would be on the Blazers. 20 minutes a game at SF, 16 minutes at PF.
He’s a much, much, much better power forward than Dejuan Blair, both offensively and defensively.
by Nick Van Excellent on Jun 27, 2009 1:13 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
He's a natural Sf who's been played out of position by Charlotte
at PF and C before the last couple of seasons. He’s also seen minutes at SG too. They kind of used him everywhere. As you say, he was terrific as a PF, although really no more so than he has been at his natural SF position.
Charlotte promised to exclusively play him at SF after one of his hairier injury seasons a couple of seasons ago. They broke that promise when Sean May couldn’t stop eating. I doubt GW would want to go to a team that would continue to try to play him a lot at PF.
Incidentally, he’s one of my favorite non-blazers, and I probably watched more Bobcats games last season than any other team other than the Blazers and maybe OKC. You don’t need to sell me on how fantastic his game is. But there’s no reason why you wouldn’t give him all the SF minutes in our lineup. Neither Nic nor Martell would take minutes away from Crash.
Also, as much as I love his game, I’m not sure I’d trade for him. His injury history is seriously scary. Four concussions… Not good. He almost shouldn’t even really be playing.
by howlingfantods on Jun 27, 2009 1:43 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Nice.
Wallace a big reason I got league pass. I watched more Bobcats games than should be allowed. I still think he can play limited minutes at PF without much injury concern. It all depends on matchups and whatnot, but I’ve seen him guard KG as good as anyone.
Also having a guy who isn’t going to hinder Batum’s development seems important to me. Having the option to play him 16 minutes a game at PF is a huge benefit. I’m not sure if Wallace cares that he plays PF, I’ve never heard him say anything about it.

Well, GW's a man. He doesn't complain about much.
I mean, just in the past year, he had that whole collapsed lung and fractured rib thing and was back on the court after three weeks. Not just back on the court a few minutes but putting up double doubles and hanging 25point games on fools. Gangsta.
Nic’s got a lot of time, and it might even be better for him if he’s brought along kind of slowly. He needs time to develop some offense that he feels confident about. and definitely if it weren’t for the injury history, I’d be banging the GW drum constantly. I was banging it pretty hard a couple of years ago when he was in free agency, but we didn’t really have a shot then.

Joe Freeman just mentioned that he wouldn’t be surprised to see the Wallace talks resurface.
My head would actually explode if a trade happened.
by Nick Van Excellent on Jun 27, 2009 2:47 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I won't lie, Wallace would get me more excited than most other players.
Even If it means no Outlaw, Webster, and not much time for Pendergraph to develop I’m still changing pants at least 4 times a game.
?/Blake(Bayless)
Roy/Rudy(hopefully Rudy and not Webster)
Wallace/Batum
Aldridge/Wallace/Pender
Oden/Przy.
We’re suddenly one scary good defensive team depending on the PG with still enough fire power to put up 100 points a night.

I love GW!
I have him on my 2k9 team and he is a beast!
I run him at the 2 with Roy at 1, LMA at 3(yes I know slow SF, but outside range+size=ownage) and then Chris Anderson+Oden at the 4/5.
Wallace has a ton of games with like 10/10/4 blocks/assists/steals. He doesn’t need to shoot a lot to be effective, BUT can blow up for 30+ when needed.
by TyboOSU on Jun 27, 2009 3:53 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I like that you don’t have to run plays for him. Plus, if the Blazers want to get tougher wouldn’t it make sense to add the toughest player in the league?

I don’t think Crash fits in our offense, especially since we don’t run.
BUT
I will take him, solely for the reason that he gives the Lakers fits. They never seem to be able to handle him.
