Direct KP: Pick your PG

Who do you want for our PG next year?  Now that the draft is over, we have a better idea of what we've got going into the free agency period.  The GMs should pretty quickly figure out who is going to sign early and where the bidding ward will be.  With all that resolved, it will be time to trade!

For the poll, assume KP can work his magic and get anyone on there without giving up anything you care about losing.  That isn't likely, but this is about who you think would be the best option.  For some bit of reality, I've left off a few "untouchables"/too obvious when cost isn't considered options: CPIII, Tony Parker, Chauncey Billups and Deron Williams and Derrick Rose.

The very first vote was for Rondo? Really?

So people would be happy to accept Rondo, but throw a fit about Marion.

Sometimes I don’t understand Portland fans.

Ya I know

23 year old top 10 point guard heading into his prime, with elite level defense versus a washed up 31 year old combo forward that only excels on fast break teams with elite point guards (when we play the slowest pace in the league). What’s wrong with Portland fans?

by as11osu on Jun 26, 2009 7:23 PM PDT up reply actions   1 recs

Do you think Rajon would change his 'tude

if he got traded to Portland? The news coming out of Boston is that Rondo’s a bad teammate and uncoachable. Even if he’s the best talent that doesn’t mean he’s the best fit. It would take a strong lockerroom personality to keep him in his place. Nate and Roy are too nice, and KP treasures team culture ’way too much to pursue a deal for RR

THEY STUCK HIM WITH KG FOR THE FIRST TWO SEASONS!!!

Word is

That KG (the mouth) was the one guy who could keep RR in line

Rondo has his own issues that have nothing to do with Garnett. I suspect KP will stay away

Maybe they people that voted for Rondo

did not throw a fit about Marion, so there is no logical inconsistency.

lol. Well if Devin Harris is there for the taking I will do it

If that means losing either Rudy or Batum I would go ahead and do it.

In a heartbeat

I’d give them both up.

Idk DH would not be posting the types of numbers he has in NJ

He would be reduced to much more of the type of role he had in Dallas. It’s tough to give up your starting SF of the future AND your 6th man for that. Btw I am amusing we ditch Bayless and Travis in this deal as well.

Well, a 4 for 1 is always tough

Dealing Rudy means I’d want to keep Trout as our 6th man. I don’t think he’s as bad as many here believe. He’s one hell of a scorer on most nights. I’m also assuming he’ll get over his playoff jitters. If we give up Rudy, we keep Trout for bench scoring.

There aren’t many players I’d be willing to take if it means giving away Bayless. Harris is on that short list.

Rex is a starter by the 2010 trade deadline. Watch.

by dan_the_man on Jun 26, 2009 6:25 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

If it's a 4 for one I would definitely not want to give up both guys.

Rudy, Blake, Outlaw + draft pick rights (this year, not an actual pick) and maybe a future 2nd? for Harris and a contract. Honestly I don’t really know how much the Nets would want. Nets fans would say Roy or LMA, but I don’t know if their FO would feel the same. As they are in real money saving mode.

6th man concerns wouldn’t be as high with Harris, he would be a 2a option along with 2b Aldridge, and a first option when Roy sits. That would give us a suitable scoring boost throughout the game provided Bayless can come in as the 3rd guard and score 10-12 points a night.

Harris/Bayless
Roy/Bayless/Webster
Webster/Batum
LMA/Pender(or FA)
Oden/Przy

Possible Bench warmers: Mills, Cunningham, Claver, trade throw in(contract), FA(or Pender), FA.

I would love that rotation. It’s a little dream of mine. I wish my dream could come true.

by Bskey on Jun 26, 2009 6:50 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ya...

this’d be a deal you lose Bayless and one of the wings (Batum, Rudy), not both. Add Outlaw to the deal and I think both teams can live with that.

Harris / Blake / Mills
Roy / Rudy or Webster
Batum or Webster / Webster or Roy / Cunningham
Aldridge / MLE+ FA? / Pendergraph
Oden / Przybilla

by as11osu on Jun 26, 2009 7:29 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

NJ will probably want KP to take back a contract, or two

Dooling, Najera, Simmons? Not sure who or how many, but I think you’ll to factor this in

Hopefully the trade machine will be updated on July 1, there’s been a lot of player movement lately and it’s hard to keep up with who all went where

Bayless/Rudy/Trout for Devin Harris and Najera

I think I proposed that exact deal, a few weeks ago

I don’t get all the “Harris is a superstar and won’t be able to play with Roy” chatter. Devin is a solid kid who a sport’s psychologist said had incredible mental toughness.

I think he’d be a perfect fit. There were reports that NJ was shopping him in hopes of moving up into the first 5 picks, so I don’t know if the Nets are completely attached to DH as their future PG.

by two4larue on Jun 26, 2009 10:29 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

from storyteller's website

http://www.storytellerscontracts.info/resources/09-10salaries.htm

The non-expiring contracts that NJ would like to see go bye-bye (2010-11 salaries listed)

Keyon Dooling 3,828,000
Yi Jianlian 4,050,499
Eduardo Najera 3,000,000
Josh Boone 2,992,888
Sean Williams 2,502,328
Courtney Lee 1,352,640

No one player’s salary is all that much by themselves, but put 3 of them together and it’s a sizable chunk. If the Nets could “replace” a couple of those with Rudy (1,246,680) or Batum (1,196,760) or even Claver (1,088,800) you’d have to think they’d jump on that. (Of course, the real “prize” for NJ would be the expiring contracts of Outlaw and Blake.)

Again, this is assuming their goal is to “clear” as much cap-space as possible heading into next summer’s FA bonanza. KP can help them, but the “price” has to be Harris (8,981,000)

by two4larue on Jun 26, 2009 11:30 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hinrich is attainable, and I’d love to have him. I also wouldn’t mind Nash or Calderon. Harris would cost way too much in all probability.

I voted Calderon just for giggles.

by Cablinasian on Jun 26, 2009 5:47 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Devin is my pick (but not realistic)

I would then go with Hinrich. Hard to believe BRex is at 13% as the starter. I love him as our backup, but I want to see him get some PT before running the team full time.

My assumption was that I wanted to see Bayless as the starter because it would mean that he made big strides this offseason and was ready to take over the position.

Hinrich

Because his skill set and fit relative to his obtainability is the highest of the options. Harris would be even better, but after dumping VC, I don’t think New Jersey would be interested in fire selling Harris…

Hinrich

Attainable, solves our problems at point guard, declining salary, we wouldn’t have to give up a high talent player to get him, declining salary, fits our system perfectly, tough nosed player.

I like Harris, but you don’t need a superstar point guard to win a championship. You do need one who can play defense. A Harris trade would also cost us a ton of our talent, if he is even attainable.

Hinrich all the way.

Ricky Rubio

If the T’Wolves are thinking about trading him to New York, there is no way we can’t trump anything they offer times two. Think about what the knicks have to offer… now think about us. His price is coming down by the minute, and we have the best parts and the most need for a player of his talents.

by as11osu on Jun 26, 2009 7:34 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Getting Hinrich and then nabbing Rubio as point guard of the future would be amazing. Chances of pulling off both would be slim though.

but my order goes something like this….
Devin Harris becuase two4larue said so
Conley because I still think Greg could be 2wice the player he is alone with his side kick.
Kidd/Nash AND BAYLESS BETTER BE THE REAL DEAL BLAZERSEDGE (cutting stare goes bens way)
Kaptain Kirk for everyone else and so I’m not burnt at the stake for thinking he’ll wind up being just a smidgen better than blake… I mean I’m not one to rip on a dude (save my beloved Z-bo becuase he let me down, and maybe miles:), but … wasn’t kirk like out for the majority of 2 of the most recent seasons? (maybe not that long) this don’t send up little red flags and little angels on everyones shoulders screaming DON’T DO IT!!! and besides… IT’S CHICAGO!!! we’re this close to opening the window of the home to the Keepers of the O’brien trophy, and we want to go and swap spitt with the same team that twarted our last finals appearance? NO I say….

Hinrich is a vastly better defender than Blake, and a bit better on offense. Adding Kirk would go a long ways to addressing our weakness in backcourt D.

now I liked the parts about defense, and about riley getting all blushy and sarcastic about hinrich, be him telling some truth, but is kirk reallllllly worth the 8 mil we’ll be paying … or can’t we get something ANYTHING better for that money. I’m just on record as saying I’ve pretty much lost all faith in Steve after that airball in game 3. So I’m biased.

I haven’t lost all faith in Blake, but he really had a stinker of a game 6 down in Houston when Portland was eliminated. Sure, it was a bad game for most of the team, but PG is the position where you expect leadership and Steve had something like 4 unforced turnovers. I still want him around as a backup, I think that’s the perfect role for Blake on a championship-caliber ballclub

Ricky really is looking more and more possible to me

I just don’t see Minny not moving him, and we’re really the only team with the assets to trade for him without completely blowing up our team and committing our future to him. NY’s only assets are Wilson Chandler, Dino, and Hill, who they have no use for with Love and Jefferson around, and they seem to be the only team really pursuing him hard.

We, on the other hand, could offer any three to four of Joel, Rudy, Travis, Bayless, Blake, Webster, Nic, and Claver without really disrupting the core of our team. Unless there’s another team out there willing to completely blow themselves up for Rubio, I just don’t see where the bids will come from. The Suns are the only other team that seems willing to blow themselves up on the same scale as NY, but their only real assets come in the form of a PF and PG, which most decidedly do not fit the Wolves’ needs.

For as much as Nate wanting vets has been said

KP has said equally as many times Blake and Przybilla are our vets. They’re both currently starters and both are currently going to be 30 by the playoffs. I have a hard time justifying a point guard you expect to be on the team for the next 10-15 years to a guy that’ll be here for 3. Rubio is 10 years younger than Hinrich. He’s the furthest along of any point guard his age, probably in the history of basketball. He’s been a professional basketball player for 5 years. His BBIQ is high as you’ll ever see from a prospect. I have a really hard time not calling him a veteran of sorts.

Honestly, and I know it’d never happen, but we could have both of these guys. Blake and Outlaw for Hinrich. Przybilla, Bayless and Webster for Rubio (throw in some bad or mediocre contracts Etan Thomas, Brian Cardinal, Craig Smith*, Mark Madsen).

PG: Hinrich /// Rubio /// BAE (Tyronn Lue/Brevin Knight
SG: Roy /// Rudy
SF: Batum /// Trade Exception (James Jones/Ime Udoka-type) /// Cunningham
PF: LMA /// Criag Smith /// Pendergraph /// Freeland
C: Oden /// MLEish (Pachulia/Gortat/Varejao/Chris Andersen/Nesterovic/Shelden Williams/Wilcox/Pops/Wallace) /// Etan Thomas

Claver would plug into Outlaw's hybrid spot when he comes over completing the roster.

Just for the sake of clairity (future)…

Rubio / Hinrich
Roy / Rudy
Batum / Claver
LMA / Craig Smith
Oden / Gortat

by as11osu on Jun 27, 2009 12:41 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bayless is much more

of a 1/2 hybrid than any of those guys. He’s basically a slightly smaller Foye. I doubt Blake or Bayless would be their first choices, but they’d fit better playing alongside Flynn than Rubio would.

Realistically, their order of preference would probably be: Rudy, Nic, Joel, Bayless, Trout, Claver, Blake, Webster (injury). But the point remains, we could construct a deal that would keep a decent number of those guys, while not touching any of our top three guys that would be better than anything NY could give them.

KP better at least go after Rubio

Securing Rubio would mean not having to worry about our PG position for the next 12-15 years. I am not sure what Minny will get from him but we should have some attractive packages for them. Maybe Przy, Outlaw, and Bayless plus a future pick for Rubio and a contract.

Then signing or trading for a back up 5.

Rubio

I personally would like to see Heinrich because he is attainable without losing to many key players. But Rubio wouldn’t be bad either. Question is would he want to play for us. We are not actually a big market team either which he has said that is what he wants. Though Rudy could help to sway him.

Everyone else that has been rumored in connection with the Blazers (Nash, Miller, Kidd) I don’t want any part of. They are all past their prime.
