10$ he still resigns with the Magic

Who is really going to pay him more than the Magic will? Certainly not the Blazers.

Yup, I think he will resign with them too, especially now that they have another impact player.

A starting 5 of Howard, Lewis, Turkoglu, Carter, and Nelson would be nasty. He knows that, and that’s got to factor in his decision.

by dario argento on Jun 26, 2009 12:05 PM PDT up reply actions

The magic management has been saying behind doors

that they aren’t willing to pay him what he wants.

I hear that Turk is in the SERIOUS running to come here.

Boooooooooo!!!!!

Please no! I like our 3’s minus Trout, and he would be a cap destroyer.

by dario argento on Jun 26, 2009 2:11 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't know if any team

will pay him what he wants. Where is he more valuable than orlando, which maximized the use of his talents? I don’t see him being that kind of impact player in another system.

by lurtsman on Jun 26, 2009 10:41 PM PDT up reply actions

So we pay him 10mil

to take the ball out of Roy’s hand at the end of game? It will not happen.

Although im not a HUGE Turkoglu fan, imagine this....

If the Blazers sign Turk, and then trade Blake and Travis for Kirk Heinrich. That sets up a pretty solid roster of

Captain Kirk
Roy
Turk
LMA
Oden

Bayless
Rudy
Martell
Pendergraph
Przybilla

That is a better team if you ask me. I dont know if it gets us over the top or if Turk is worth the money that he and his agent think he is. But it sure would be fun to watch

Hi fans it Brandon Roy.
And ME.....LaMarcus Aldridge

by Derftron on Jun 26, 2009 12:10 PM PDT reply actions

Needs more defense!

Roy/Turk/LMA watching with the 1 & 5 defending.

In this case Hinrich better show himself to be Billups 2.0.

by staylost on Jun 26, 2009 11:14 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm going to throw up if we sign Hedo

we don’t need a 30 year old point forward who doesn’t play defense, especially for 10 million/year. There are so many better options out there including keeping the exact same lineup we have now.

Hedo makes no sense

Batum was a huge part of the Blazers success last year, and I would be very surprised if he didn’t get a lot better this year. IMO, Hedo would make the Blazers a lot worse as cost way too much.

Cheaper, Younger, Plays better defense, better 3pt shooter last year.

He gets $9 million per year through 2012

With a player option in 2011-12.

He blew up the year Amare was out and got a contract based on that performance. He has since failed to live up to that contract.

by ninjasocks on Jun 26, 2009 4:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Boris Diaw is like a fat Lamar Odom

The man has the drive and motivation of a trustifarian. He plays amazing a couple times a year, going crazy on offense or shutting down 3/4/5s on defense. The rest of the time he’s incredibly mediocre. The Suns fans were mostly excited to get rid of him last year.

No………. don’t come to Portland. No.

by Cablinasian on Jun 26, 2009 1:34 PM PDT reply actions

Reasons why we shouldn't get Hedo

1. He’s 30. Why spend our FA dollars on a guy who will only decline in coming seasons?
2. We don’t need to add offense. Hedo is a crafty scorer, but we need better defense.
3. He’s not as good as people think. Hedo had a very solid year when he won MIP. This season, however, is a different story. His PER was under 15. Outlaw, on the other hand, had a PER of just over 15. He’s taller and stronger than Outlaw yet rebounds at the same rate. Hedo’s 3 point shooting took a 5% hit this year (down to 35.6%) and his TS% puts him in the same company as Jamal Crawford, Von Wafer and our own Travis Outlaw, among others. For a guy whose calling card is offense that isn’t a good sign.
4. One of his unique talents, playing point forward, isn’t a need for our team. Orlando would often put the ball in Hedo’s hands in late game situations, but we already have Roy doing that.

KP Rarely does what is being talked about in the Draft

He does tend to do what is talked about in trades, at least the players that we are expecting to leave usually leave. The players that are brought in are rarely impact, every impact player I remember was a Rookie. I hope he does this well and I expect he will know how to do this correctly.

Guess you missed the Houston series if you think we don't need offense.

We have two players right now who can be relied upon to score in playoff basketball.

You need more than that if you want to advance

by Rudy4three on Jun 26, 2009 3:09 PM PDT up reply actions

and Hedo has a 14.8 PER and mediocre scoring efficiency. He’s not a good option.

by Cablinasian on Jun 26, 2009 3:33 PM PDT up reply actions

I do agree that we need another scorer, but I tend to think it should come from the point. We need the small forward to be a defender to take on Kobe, Wade, Durant, etc.

by Cablinasian on Jun 26, 2009 3:33 PM PDT up reply actions

we are not always going to face Houston's suffocating D

the team will also figure out how to play playoff basketball and score when the intensity goes up.

I’m going to take 82 games of offensive efficiency (tops in the league) over 6 games against the team that matches up against us perfectly on defense. We shouldn’t build our team to overcome just the Rockets; we need to look at the bigger picture of team strengths and weaknesses.

RE: We shouldn’t build our team to overcome just the Rockets

The Suns traded for Shaq in order to get past the Spurs in the playoffs. Instead of getting killed by big men, they started getting killed by slashing guards and performed worse in the postseason than they did before. All of this on top of destroying a once-exciting team.

by ninjasocks on Jun 26, 2009 5:03 PM PDT up reply actions

great example

the Cavs are doing the same thing this year. We’ll see how that goes. I would rather be the team other teams blow up their roster to compete against.

When did thirty become old for a professional athlete???

MJ’s second three-peat came when he was 32-35. Not in any way comparing Hedo to MJ.

by blazer23-83 on Jun 26, 2009 5:54 PM PDT reply actions

I don't think it's entirely about age.

It’s the many things that coincide with that, his decline in productivity, his high cost, his style of play (mainly being a point forward type) and etc. Not to mention our logjam at SF.

by dpnim on Jun 26, 2009 6:20 PM PDT up reply actions

you are also pointing out

one of the basketball anomalies

add to the fact that we are not renting Hedo, but would probably need to take him till he is 34 or 35 and add in dpnim comments and it becomes a recipe for money not so wisely spent.

Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.

by jonestr on Jun 27, 2009 4:55 PM PDT up reply actions

exactly

Jordan was one of the hardest workers in basketball. Plus, he changed his game as he lost some of his athleticism so he could stay on top.
