Rubio will not buy a home in Twin Cities - UPDATE

... according to pioneerpress.com.

Ricky Rubio's reaction to the interviewer last evening suggesting that he will have to get used to the cold was a strong clue.

Then Rubio's father's almost immediate suggestion that Rubio might stay in Europe for another year or two fanned the flames of speculation.

The speculation continues in this story.

This being the United States, where everything New York takes on a heightened significance, of course everyone thinks Rubio will be dealt to the Knicks rather than be allowed to season in Spain.

Would KP and Nate be interested in adding another rookie to the roster if it is Rubio?   What would it cost in a trade?

UPDATE:  Christopher Reina of RealGM thinks Portland is the logical landing place:

By the looks of it, Rubio will never put on a Minnesota uniform, so they will need to work with Portland on a bailout. New York will do everything within their power to get Rubio, but I don't see any assets that they could legitimately use in order to get it done.

We don't have the players to give up.

Or we do, but I wouldn’t give up guys like Rudy or Batum for him. Our tradeable pieces like Outlaw, Webster, Blake, wouldn’t be able to get Rubio

Bayless, Blake, Outlaw, Webster, 1st round 2010 & 2012 picks

Couldn’t we have gave that up to Washinton for the 5th pick, took Rubio. Sign Kidd, Sign N Trade Frye for the rights to Fran Vasquez(Have him come over after 2009-2010 with Claver),

Kidd/Rubio
Roy/Rudy
Batum/Claver
Aldridge/Vasquez
Oden/Przybilla

Patience :)

If they knew he was going to be there at #5 then they could have done that.

But who knew that OKC and Sac would pass on him. It would have been a gamble to trade up to #5.

Plus Minnesota took on bad contracts I believe.
Not sure how that would have effected our cap

If rubio had been taken...

…we could have grabbed curry at the 5th spot.

Is his dad his handler?

if so he should fire that dude.

like a week ago Rubio’s camp said they liked what Minny was doing.

I would also be interested to find out exactly where he would play as he is still under contract with Joventut, but he burned that bridge in a spectacular fashion and only ended up hurting himself.

Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.

When they grabbed 2 PGs with the 5 and the 6, I knew one was getting traded

And Rubio has sooooo much more value than Flynn (in terms of hype/ability/potential and any financial ramifications from the ability to stash him overseas if one wanted to).

Flynn is the Wolves PG of the future, Rubio is trade bait (for now or the future).

Yes, but will he rent an apartment in the Twin Cities? I hear they have some good deals on rentals these days.

Fernandez, Batum, maybe Bayless

and future picks. for Rubio and Pecherov.

K-Love isn't going anywhere

Probably we’d be looking at something like Bayless, Trout, Joel, Claver for Rubio and Etan Thomas at the minimum. More likely they’d want Rudy in a deal, though.

The Blazers have a lot of wing players.

Outside of Miami or Memphis, no team can really give the Minnesota roster the balance it needs. They have a jillion power forwards and no true centers.

To complicate things

Minnesota is in good shape w/r/t cap space. They really don’t need any expiring contracts. Those’re worthless in this case.

i just don't want Rubio

I understand not wanting to go to a small market team like the Wolves if you have a massive contract buyout, but I just get tired of all the hype. for all the buzz about how great he played in the olympics, here were his averages…
4.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 turnovers, 2.0 steals, 28.1% FG in 18.5 minutes

as for a comparison, here are Blazers draft pick Patty Mills’ numbers from Beijing…
14.2 points, 2.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 turnovers, 1.67 steals, 47% FG in 23.7 minutes

there’s only two years difference in age, and Rubio played with a much better supporting cast, yet was had a worse Ast/To ratio and shot almost 20% lower from the field than did Mills.

Now I’m not saying Rubio can’t eventually be a good player in the league, but lets just wait before we start calling him the next big thing at PG.

and that rubio had a team to play with, his back up (? unsure who started) was the lulullululululllll guy, who's not to shabby himself, AND...

the Mills cat was playing for …. yeah…. not that the ausies aint’ got a rockin squad cuz they make noise, but we all knew who’d be playing for the gold… right? right? right? :)

T-Wolves Fan Here...

I asked this in another post, but I’m wondering what Blazers’ fans think it would take to get Rudy? I’m hoping we keep Rubio and would love to see him paired with his backcourt mate on Spanish national team…should help with transition to MN and NBA.

Would you guys look at Flynn as a PG of the future upgrade over Bayless?

We also have 3 first round picks next year (ours, Utah and Charlotte). With Aldridge, you guys don’t need Love, but I’m wondering if there is a Love for Fernandez plus one of your SFs that make sense.

by TWolvesFanInLA on Jun 26, 2009 10:07 PM PDT reply actions

nope

Minnesota is trying I’ll give you that. They are trying to monopolize a bit of talent and see if they can craft that into something better, but I wonder if they have a plan for their team. Posturing is fine for achieving a goal, but I wonder what they have truly achieved?

by Sonic Boom on Jun 26, 2009 10:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Flynn might be more perpared as a PG than bayless

but I’m more than happy with bayless as a blazer fan. Most of the people who would want to trade him do it in frustration from KP keeping bayless and clearing sergio out of the way. I wish Minny the best of luck, but I’d rather have bayless and see what happens. His work ethic and friendship with Oden appear to be huge assets. He seems like he will be the kind of PG nate wants to coach, and the kind that fits alongside Roy. (I do not believe someone with that work ethic can fail to improve his shooting)

by lurtsman on Jun 26, 2009 10:38 PM PDT up reply actions

More in depth

if Minny wanted outlaw/webster/blake/any of our picks from this draft, to land one of those PGs, I’d be interested in that deal—though trading blake without knowing how bayless will perform is a little risky. I’d much rather see a deal to bring in Hinrich as the starter and have bayless as the primary backup with a 3rd string PG available incase either was injured.

Rudy is a star in the making

I would be unhappy as a fan to see him traded away for anybody. We overvalue our key guys but with Rudy most of us already have the T-shirt.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside.
