Blazersedge Draft Thread: Second Round

Here are your second round picks

31.  Portland Trail Blazers (from Kings)  Jeff Pendergraph from Arizona

Trade Announced:  Dallas trades B.J. Mullens for Rodrige Beaubois and a future 2nd-round pick

Trade Announced:  They finally got around to the Sergio-for-Pendergraph trade.  Sergio and #38 for J.P.  Blair could be next if the Wizards leave him alone.

32.  Washington Wizards  Jermaine Taylor from Central Florida

INTERESTING TIDBIT:  ESPN just interviewed the Chicago GM with the specific question, "How can you hold onto Eric Gordon and Luol Deng?"  The answer?  "We hope to hold onto Gordon."  The only mention of Deng was that he was fully recovered and back in the gym.

33.  Portland Trail Blazers  Dante Cunningham from Villanova

Trade Announced:  Knicks and Grizzlies trade for Richardson and Milicic.

34.  Denver Nuggets Sergio Llull from Spain

Trade Announced:  L.A. to New York swap of 29th pick.

35.  Detroit Pistons DaJuan Summers from Georgetown

36.  Memphis Grizzlies Sam Young from Pittsburgh

37.  San Antonio Spurs DeJuan Blair from Pittsburgh

Analysis:  Do you think maybe it says something that his teammate was drafted before him?

Trade Announced:  Minnesota trades Ty Lawson to Denver for a future first-round pick.

38.  Sacramento Kings (from Blazers)  Jon Brockman from Washington

39.  Detroit Pistons  Jonas Jerebko from Sweden

Trade Announced:  Washington Wizards trade Jermaine Taylor to Houston for cash.

40.  Charlotte Bobcats  Derrick Brown from Xavier

41.  Milwaukee Bucks  Jodie Meeks from Kentucky

42.  Los Angeles Lakers Patrick Beverley from the Ukraine

43.  Miami Heat  Marcus Thornton from LSU

44.  Detroit Pistons Chase Budinger from Arizona

45.  Minnesota Timberwolves  Nick Calathes from Florida

46.  Cleveland Cavaliers Danny Green from UNC

Trade Announced:  The Blazers' deal with Sacramento for Pendergraph gets announced. Jon Brockman is obviously the guy who goes back.

47.  Minnesota Timberwolves Henk Norel from The Netherlands

48.  Phoenix Suns  Taylor Griffin from Oklahoma

49.  Atlanta Hawks  Sergey Gladyr  from the Ukraine

50.  Utah Jazz  Goran Suton from Michigan State

51.  San Antonio Spurs  Jack McClinton from Miami

Trade Announcement:  Miami trades Marcus Thornton to New Orleans for two future second-rounders

52.  Indiana Pacers  A.J. Price from Connecticut

53.  San Antonio Spurs  Nano De Colo from France

Analysis:  Wow.  You can cut the tension for Portland's next pick with a feather.  A squooshy feather.

54.  Charlotte Bobcats  Robert Vaden from UAB

Trade Announcement: Detroit trades the rights to Chase Budinger to Houston for a future second-rounder and cash

55.  Portland Trail Blazers  Patrick Mills from St.  Mary's

56.  Dallas Mavericks  Ahmad Nivins from Saint Joseph's

57.  Phoenix Suns  Emir Preldzic from Bosnia and Herzegovina

Trade Announcment:  The Lakers trade Patrick Beverly to the Miami Heat for a future second round pick and cash.

58.  Boston Celtics  Lester Hudson from UT, Martin

Trade Announcement:  Charlotte Bobcats trade Robert Vaden to Oklahoma City for cash.

59.  Los Angeles Lakers  Chinemelu Elonu from Texas A+M

Analysis:  Please, Miami, take Dionte Christmas!  With a name like that you have to be drafted.

60.  Miami Heat   Robert Dozier from Memphis

And that, folks, is your 2009 NBA Draft.  Stay tuned for Ben's report from ground zero and an analysis of the picks and their purpose.  Thanks for participating in the threads.  Prepare now for the free agency period!

by malarky on Jun 25, 2009 7:41 PM PDT reply actions

If Portland wanted to stash anyone overseas with its first-round pick, Nick Calathes should've been it.

Once Calathes contract with Panathinaikos ends after the 2011-2012 season, he could’ve come over and potentially replaced Rudy Fernandez if he left after his rookie contract.

by AK1984 on Jun 25, 2009 7:50 PM PDT up reply actions

Cunningham was singled out by Pritchard on multiple occasions today for his good workout, his 4 year college career, his NBA readiness and his toughness. Had he not worked out with both Hansbrough and Pendergraph, he might have been a show stealer. Like Brown, Cunningham showed steady statistical improvements throughout his college careeer and is known for his interior game, which seems like a big plus in the Blazers’ eyes this year. He’s slightly smaller than both Pendergraph and Hansbrough and given the reputation those guys carry with them I think he slots in below both of them. Nevertheless, Cunningham is definitely a name to remember.

Risk/Reward

Here’s what I don’t understand. Dnate Cunninham will never be a factor in the NBA. Good guy, but his game does not translate. Blair has the potential to fill a real hole on this team, and if his knees are shot, you give him the minimum as a second rounder. I’m baffled

NBA knew this draft would be boring so they sabotaged Blair to keep peope watching to see where he’d be picked

by shoothoop on Jun 25, 2009 7:45 PM PDT reply actions

I wish we'd kept sergio

We probably could have gotten Pendergraph at 33 and if we was gone just taken Blair. I’m not happy with this draft so far.

by terryisntbald on Jun 25, 2009 7:45 PM PDT reply actions

from DX snippet

Cunningham is a tremendously active player who brings a lot of hustle to the court; this is pretty evident on the defensive side of the ball. He is constantly on the move looking to make things happen and has shown both solid anticipation and great timing. Cunningham’s lateral quickness is good enough that he is able to step away from the basket and cover perimeter players without being a liability to his team, and in fact forces a fair number of turnovers with his on the ball pressure.
