Devin Harris available?

I was wondering. Because of the Nets getting Rafer Alston. Does this now mean that Devin Harris might be available?

My guess would be yes. I certainly wouldn't be surprised if KP pulls a deal for Harris tonight. He certainly would fit our team well. The big question would be how much we'd have to give up. It's at least an interesting possibility that I'm sure Pritchard will look in to.

The list of players I wouldn't want to ship off for Harris are:

Aldridge, Roy, Rudy, Oden, Batum

I’d be fine with anyone else, including Bayless.

Let's change this topic then

Do you guys thinking Alson would be an upgrade over Blake?

JAWESOME!

by TheOdenator on Jun 25, 2009 3:35 PM PDT reply actions

No...

He’s a terrible shooter. Blake is a much more reliable option in terms of efficiency. Alston likes to shoot but happens to be very bad at it. Not a good combo in a PG.

Don't believe the hype.

rumors about harris have been going on for the past few days

so it’s not completely inconceivable. I heard one earlier today that had him going for the #2 pick in a 3-team deal.

keep in mind, if they move him before July, they only have to take back half his salary (of course you need a team under the cap to facilitate, but Memphis qualifies)

How did you guys win that?

Maybe the Nets are just looking to dump salary.

They did just get back some expiring contracts for Carter.

I was thinking the same thing

before the draft, I am surprised they didn’t make a move for Milicic, but I think they could make a move at Ray Allen & Rajon Rondo. We can’t provide that amount of talent & it would allow them to still contend next year.

http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=5147155

In terms of worst case scenario, They have the cap to sign LeBron AND which ever big $$$ player Lebron wants next to him(Nowitski has an eto in 2010, I think he would opt out if Dallas has not won a championship by then. He would make LeBron ENOURMOUS in Germany), then use the bird rights they acquired on Rondo to resign him.

Rondo
Williams/Lee
LeBron
Nowitski
Shaq

I just threw up.

Or, Minnesota talks with NJ. Swap Rubio with Harris, then Minnesota gives NJ Cardinal/Madsen/Thomas for cap room in 2010.

Rubio
Williams
LeBron
Nowitski
Shaq

Makes LeBron the “international icon” that he wants to be, his fans in Spain & Germany will be nuts.

Patience :)

Finally

They could make a move with Golden State for Curry(LeBron has taking a liking to him)

So in two years, I think the Brooklyn Net’s starting PG will be Rondo, Rubio or Curry.

Patience :)

by TheGreatDane17 on Jun 26, 2009 1:10 PM PDT up reply actions

No way

They would not give him up for anything less than Oden or Aldridge. He was an all-star last year, who is young, and is an awesome defender. No way they give him up for Blazer scraps like Outlaw/Bayless/#22/Batum/Blake/Webster. Just unrealistic.

by Brandon684 on Jun 25, 2009 3:42 PM PDT reply actions

Exactly.

Offer them Aldridge and Rudy. If they take the deal you could always sign a free agent PF like Lee, Mcdyess, Okur, Varejao, Villanueva, or Odom. There’s also a chance you could get a guy like Elton Brand for pretty cheap.

I just think it’s a lot harder to find an all-star PG than it is to find an all-star PF.

Roy is the best player in the world with the exception of Incarcerated Mike from Queensbridge .

by Nick Van Excellent on Jun 25, 2009 4:04 PM PDT up reply actions

Harris

We can’t give them nearly the amount of expiring contracts in 2010 that other people can & I think that is what they are looking for, along with a PG who can play well next to LeBron. I think they will probably make a trade with Boston(Rondo/Allen, large amount of $$$ coming off the books from Allen),
Golden State(Curry/Belinelli/Claxton(SCEC) can’t be done until August 16th)
or Minnesota(Rubio, Large amount of $$ coming off the books from Madsen & Cardinal).

You can also apply those trades to NY, who is also jockeying for LeBron cap space & pieces who could fit well around him.

Patience :)

This is the post for you to consider before posting trades like this:

Every team has its players that are involved in the community or has its players that the team needs to hold on to for other reasons. Guys like Vince Carter can be traded because they are head cases or bad locker room guys. Other guys, are nice guys AND have great game. This is why Brandon Roy, LMA, and Oden will not be traded. They have incredible athleticism, potential and skills, and they are at the forefront of the Blazers marketing campaigns. Devin Harris is the same for the Nets. He cannot be traded without getting a guy that is or could be that All-star tier player. That means these guys will not net you Harris – Outlaw/Webster/Fernandez/Blake/Bayless/Rodriguez/Batum/Pryz/Frye/#22/2nd round picks. You couldn’t trade them any combo of 4 of those pieces and get Harris because he is an all-star that is not a headcase. This of course is all barring an incredibly stupid GM, like Chris Wallace. So please, in the future, you have to give up a young all-star/near all-star to get an all-star/near all-star. And trading a guy that the city is familiar with or comfortable with for an unknown quantity, is not something Pritchard would do.

100% correct

Rafeer Alston’s addition to New Jearsy, in no means, puts Devin Harris on trade Block. Devin Harris is the man in New Jearsy and is nearly a top 5 PG

This trade is possible I guess

I would expect that any trade to New Jersey would include Bayless. I remember there being a lot a hype in New Jersey about Bayless when the Blazers last visited there. Do new Jersey really intend to keep Alston, Harris and Lee? I don’t think so. One of them will move this summer – probably Alston, but you never know.

by clandrabell on Jun 25, 2009 8:28 PM PDT reply actions

I guess people really like DHarris...

but he’s a risky/expensive acquisition. Risky because he’s had his own injury problems in the past. Expensive because of his contract length and in what we’d have to give up to get him.

I actually think Rudy/Bayless/Outlaw for DHarris would be a better deal for NJ than Portland.

Harris, Lopez and Dooling for TO, Pryz and Rudy

Not in a million years

would the Nets make this trade.

TO may be slightly better than Dooling, but Lopez is a better option long-term (and maybe short term) than Pryz and Harris is significantly better than Rudy and at a much better position.

I don’t think Harris is worth (to us) what we would have to give up to get him. He isn’t a great 3-pt. shooter and needs the ball to be effective on offense. I don’t feel like his style would mesh well with Brandon.

by inroywetrust on Jun 26, 2009 5:50 AM PDT reply actions

I totally disagree

Brandon has been dominate on Iso plays where he breaks ankles with his killer crossover, but think how good he will be if he gets the ball in space because a quality point guard like D.H. has broken down the D

by We-B-Dunkin on Jun 26, 2009 6:59 AM PDT reply actions

Devin Harris would be awesome to acquire

However, I’m not sure we have enough/should give up enough to make it work.

We’d have to give up Outlaw, Blake or Bayless, and probably Rudy or Batum…I think it could be worth it, but not sure if even that deal is sweet enough to get the Nets to move.

by mwalter on Jun 26, 2009 10:20 AM PDT reply actions

do it

outlaw, Rudy, and either blake or bayless? I do that trade in a nanosecond. our rotation is then:

Harris/ (blake or bayless)
Roy/Martell(bayless if still here)
Batum/Martell
LMA/Pendergraph
Greg/Joel

yeah…sign me up. quality backup 2s and 3s can be found like candy.

How did you guys win that?

Harris would be great. However,

I, for the life of me can’t make it work at all on the trade machine due to Harris’s BYC status. Will that expire after July 7? Does anyone know? BYC players are almost impossible to acquire.

I think we would have to give up LMA and Rudy at the very least to get him, which I think be a good trade for us btw. I’m starting to value LMA less the more I think about all the touches he gets in the paint that I feel Oden should be getting. I think there is a chance LMA’s trade value may never be higher than it is right now. That being said I only want to trade him if we are getting a premier PG in return, like Harris / Rondo / Williams / Paul / Parker.

by dario argento on Jun 26, 2009 10:55 AM PDT reply actions

Will that expire after July 7? Does anyone know?

Storyteller said Harris’ BYC expires July 1st (next Wednesday) I’m not sure when/if the “trade machines” will be updated with the new data.

I’d deal Outlaw, Rudy, the rights to Claver and either Blake or Bayless (they’d probably want Steve, because his contract expires) plus cap-space (and if they want Pendergraph or Cunningham I’d throw them in, as well) and take back any of the Net’s non-expiring contracts to acquire Devin Harris

yeah, he’s that good

by two4larue on Jun 26, 2009 4:54 PM PDT up reply actions

Very unlikely

Seriously, do you think Lebron would rather come to the Nets to play with Rafer Alston? No way. Lebron clearly needs another guy and a James/Harris combo would be amazing. Even if they were shopping him, they would ask for, at the very least, two of the Blazers future core (Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Fernandez, Batum, Bayless), which would be too much.

Harris is awesome, but as has been said billions of times, you don’t need a superstar point guard to win.
