Trade Drawer: 6/23 Trade Machine=Crack!
Hello, my name is Steve, and I'm an addict.
Hi, Steve!
I don't know how I managed to sink this low. I thought I'd had it under control. It's been almost a year since I last touched the stuff, and I tought I could handle it. One little taste, you know? A small trade to use that trade exception was all I was after. I wasn't trying to get LeBron or CP3 or anyone all-star-ish, just a small nip to whet the appetite of my inner GM. I couldn't handle it.
Before I knew what was happening, I'd managed to waste an entire day at work believing I was doing right because Paul Allen had said "Go for it." I delved into the permutations like a fish to water, ignoring the real world for my supreme fantasy of GM-dom (geeky, I know). A friend of mine finally snapped me out of it, but it was really close. I was almost lost forever. I don’t know if I’m fortunate or not, but I still remember the dream I had before I woke up.
Talent consolidation:
Trade w/ Charlotte- Outlaw, Webster, Sergio, and #24 & #38 for Gerald Wallace.
Trade w/ Chicago- Blake for Hinrich. Takes place after July 1 (new salary year & we’ll have cap space for lopsided trade), and assumes that Chicago retains Ben Gordon.
C- Oden/Przybilla
PF- LMA/(Pendergraph or Victor Claver with #33 pick)
SF- Wallace/Batum
SG- Roy/Rudy
PG- Hinrich/Bayless
Sprinkle a few veteran minimums for emergency need, and that’s it.
Was it worth the trip?
Feel free to get your FIX in the comments.

another idea
There was the rumor floated of Rondo + Allen to Detroit for Stuckey, Prince and Hamilton. We’ve thoroughly explored getting Rondo, but what about trying to snag Stuckey, Prince & Hamilton.
If Detroit is looking for cap relief we offer them Trout + Batum + Blake + Fernandez. We’d actually have to do one lopsided trade and pickup Stuckey using our trade exception, but I think that’s doable.
Sure we love Batum but his upside is Prince.
We give Detroit all the cap room they want +plus a young core they can build with and they put us into title contention instantly. Of course if Detroit isn’t looking to cut salaries and unload contracts this trade is a no go from the start.

That is an interesting idea
but I hate Hamilton’s deal, too long and too much cash for what he brings. Stucky is a good young piece, and Prince is good, but he is 30 so giving up Batum is very very hard to do. Prince has maybe 3 good years left, maybe 5 if you stretch it, I want to keep Batum more than get Prince or Stuckey.
So it is a no deal for me.

Why trade practically half of our roster
for 2 aging, over priced players? Especially when we would be giving up all of our bench scorers. Not to mention how much Rudy and Batum will be worth by the end of their rookie contracts. If you really want to get rid of these guys at least wait until their stock has risen… I personally would love to keep both around for along time to come, they both offer something special that isnt duplicated by any other person on the team.
Greg Oden = Robert Parish - The only other rookie with more than 500 points, 400 rebounds, and 65 blocks in under 1400 minutes played. Since 1946

Why?
Why would we want to trade for the core of a team that just got swept in the first round? Where does richard hamilton (and his fatty contract) fit? I don’t understand how the “Pistons” (us) would make noise in the west when those three players got rocked in the weaker east.

I don't think the piston's problems mean their players are not worth trading for.
It’s all about fit:
We end up with a line up of:
PG: Stuckey, Bayless, Roy
SG: Roy, Hamilton, Webster
SF: Prince, Webster
PF: LMA, draft pick/free agent
C: Oden/ Pryz
We’ve upgraded PG and SF and picked up a young point guard who can grow with the team.
I can see an argument that Prince is too old or Stuckey is a bad fit at point guard, but not an argument that the Piston’s did poorly in the playoffs. They certainly didn’t have Roy, LMA and Oden playing with that core.

This is not a bad idea
but Webster is still recovering from surgery on his foot, I don’t think the Bobcats will wave his physical so he can’t be included in that trade.

This was roughly the scenario I wanted at last year's trade deadline
Except that we used RLEC, as the incentive as opposed to the pick/ Webster. I think I heard it was on the table if we would have included Batum
