I always remember him talking about the coffin corner and the middle of the court was the cyclops.

Reporter: Four assists tonight too, Travis. You're starting to shed that idea that you're just a shooter. You're starting to pass the ball more too...
Travis: (Deadpans) Aw, I just got tired..

But I like to be here. Oh, I like it a lot! Said the Cat in the Hat. To the fish in the pot.

He was the voice of much more than that

And he had retired by the time that era really began.

He was basically the voice I knew most, other than my family, growing up in Portland in the 80s and 90s….

He was forced out (and he was forced out) in 1998

Looking back, it was the beginning of the slide of the franchise that wouldn’t show up on the field until after the 2000 playoffs. He had called every game in the franchise’s history to that point though, over 2,500 of them…

Yeah, if anything

Wheels was the voice of the Jailblazers

Whitsitt forced the Schonz off the air, the FO wanted a fresh voice. Bad, bad, bad decision

Schonz being replaced would’ve happened eventually, but I’d prefer it be on his terms. If Bill could’ve kept calling Blazer games until Kevin Calabro became available? Now that would’ve been golden

(I like Wheels OK on his radio program, just not as a shrill pbp voice)

I totally agree with you

Calabro would have been great here. I like Wheels on his radio show but can’t listen to him call a game. Thank goodness I can get the Mike’s.

You've GOT to make your free throws.

VENTURA: It's drowning. It gives you the complete sensation that you are drowning. It is no good, because you -- I'll put it to you this way, you give me a waterboard, Dick Cheney and one hour, and I'll have him confess to the Sharon Tate murders.

"and we'll send it your way"

(telling the producer to go to a commercial break)

“we’ll keep it right here”

(the opposite, not going to commercial, staying “live” in the arena)

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
