Some nice analysis about finding a backcourt mate to an awesome combo guard (although we are lucky that Roy has the size to be an awesome 2.) Interesting stuff, and I think it can be taken as a guide of who to put alongside Roy, or as a guide on how to get the 5th pick off of the Wiz.

Your choice, but either way it is a nice read.

(Self high five as I would like to see Delonte West as a Blazer, and this gives that idea some credence.)

Kinda funny that this dude has Rudy

Sixth on the his list of ideal back court mates for Agent 0 and (for Roy it would be assumed). and we already have him

It would be a pretty atrocious

defensive backcourt, but it would be fun to watch. Obviously this dude is going off stats on Rudy as he doesent make any excuses for the low assist numbers even though Rudy is a good passer.

In fairness he is definitely in the 2nd tier on this list behind the golden top 4.

Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.

True

But people do bring up that Rudy/Roy has the best +/- of any of our guard combos….so he is not completely off base

I actually think their +/- was much better at the wings than at 1/2.

That may be right

now that you mention it

Yeah, Rudy Fernandez and Brandon Roy work together as a wing combo.

Fernandez plays the 3 and guards the 2, while Roy plays the 2 and guards the 3.

That combo only works for long stretches...

if you have a good, versatile defender at PG. Fortunately Kirk Hinrich is available.

Roy is the best player in the world with the exception of Incarcerated Mike from Queensbridge .

although Roy did sit in the corner and let Rudy initiate the action as the ballside wing toward the end of the season. Rudy’s pick and roll play really improved.

Who fits next to a combo guard?

Fries and a drink, that’s who.

Who fits alongside Arenas?

doesn’t matter, long as they’re not taking any of his shots away.

Next to Roy -

- Amazing Shooter
- Excellent Off Ball Movement
- Ability to create space from defender
- Offensive Creativity
- Basketball IQ
- Clutch
- Ability to create for others
- Ability to catch & shoot
- Ability to come off screens
- Ability to shoot off the dribble
- Conditioning

Oh wait, I just described Stephen Curry

Offseason:
PG Options: Terrence Williams(D), Rodrigue Beaubois(D)
SG Options: Mickaël Piétrus(T)
PF Options: Ronnie Turiaf(T) - Taj Gibson(D), Kevin Seraphin(D)
C Options: Alexis Ajinca(T)

It sounds like you described Rudy

I would say that both on ball and man defense may be a bigger priority than many of those factors.

I was talking about starting at the 1

But defense is an important factor as well, but I think Curry’s basketball IQ will allow him to play good team defense, like many of the smaller PG’s today(Tony Parker or Chris Paul).

Offseason:
PG Options: Terrence Williams(D), Rodrigue Beaubois(D)
SG Options: Mickaël Piétrus(T)
PF Options: Ronnie Turiaf(T) - Taj Gibson(D), Kevin Seraphin(D)
C Options: Alexis Ajinca(T)

I still dont see how that precludes Rudy

Your list has a lot more combo guard stuff and less pure pg stuff on it.

I've always liked Delonte West

I think he would be the perfect guard to play with Roy. He can defend the 1 really well, hit open 3s and play off the ball, and he’s tough (always a plus). He’s not a pure “run the offense 40 minutes a night” point guard, but he is good enough to bring the ball up and start the offense. I think his defense is such an upgrade over Blake that it would be worth that slight downgrade in ballhandling. If we could get him without giving up Blake then I’d love it. Wouldn’t swapping him for Outlaw be good for both teams? They could play Trout and Lebron at the forward spots and match up with Orlando.

Yes, I agree.

He’s really underrated on defense.
