JUNK - FRIDAY WHAT HIGHSCHOOL?

Friday is here.

JD topic of the day...

What highschool did you go to and what year did you graduate?

I was an '02 graduate of Kelso High up in Washington.

Then it was UP for four years, back home for 3, and now I live in downtown Portland.

Also, my mind is finally made up....

My wishlist for the offseason:

1) Draft DeJuan Blair (Buy some picks and trade up, maybe trade sergio for a pick)

2) Trade Blake and Outlaw for Hinrich

3) Re-sign Nate

4) Draft a 3rd string PG and a few Euros

5) Do whatever else KP wants to do as long as we keep our other rotation players.

Lineup/expected minutes:

Looking at last year's roster, we missed a total of 1300 minutes to injuries (not including Martell, hopefully nobody is out this whole season) which is an extra 16 minutes per game combined for our other players.  Assuming we have a similar number of games missed this year due to injury, here's how I see the minute breakdown happening:

Hinrich (32)  Bayless (18)

Roy (36)  Rudy (26)

Batum (22) Webster (26)

Aldridge (38) Blair (12)

Oden (26) Przy (20)

NICE

I can't wait for the draft next Thursday, I took next Friday off about two months ago.

Have a good weekend

Yeah pretty adorable....

I almost got that puppy, but it was from a big well taken care of litter. So instead I went and got a pound puppy, equally cute, but not as young. Also not a Golden Retriever, instead I got a Flatcoat Retriever. Great dog.

Casinos

Most of my high school classmates worked in casinos/restaurants at one point of another..the Last Frontier was a common place to find LCHS students.

Hmm...

I remember being served by typically older people. Except for one totally hot waitress, but she was at the New Phoenix I believe. (She actually fed two of us once… totally genius way of getting awesome tips.)

Working in LC

I can speak to when I lived and hung around there..until the mid/late 90s. There were older folks working too. The New Phoenix’s Chinese restaurant is really good, actually. It still surprises me that LC has restaurants, let alone a good one.

by SloppyJoe on Jun 19, 2009 10:41 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well, casinos gotta have food

Otherwise people won’t be able to stay for 12,000 hours. But yeah, of all the casino food places the Chinese one was easily the best. Ahh, good memories.

Shoot, you could give me most of a day and I don't think I could narrow it to 11.

Especially because I want to lump Here Comes the Sun through The End from Abbey Road into one big song… the transition through each song always feels seemless.

Good choices though.

I might choose:
Lady Madonna
With a Little Help
Norwegian Wood
In My Life
Girl

by Quik_Baller on Jun 19, 2009 10:04 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know

Those are good choices too. I have been listening to Abbey Road lately and could also go with the 2 suites at the end of it (from Mean Mr Mustard until The End).

by prezofdeath on Jun 19, 2009 10:11 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

That'd be awesome to see...

You’d have to front the other team’s center/PF and you’d have to put extreme amounts of pressure on the ball at all times. It would be a tiring way of playing.

On offense though you could spread the floor 5 wide and get iso drives going nonstop with no one in the center to stop you.

You meet while stalking, her natural inclination is that you’ll meet someone else while stalking since you did it once before. It’s a tough thing to convince her of.

Ever since the dawn of man, the women were the gatherers and the men the hunter/stalkers. I don’t see nuthin’ in no 10 commandments about no stalkin’, and I ain’t seen a peep of a word about it in the Declaration of Indy-pendence, so UNTIL THEN I say good day sir, I’m a’ stalkin.

Wojnarowski, I hate you
For all the Portland Trail Blazers’ usual misdirection plays about moving up in the draft, few say they’re sincere in climbing into the lottery. Ultimately, it’s thought that the Blazers are trying to clear cap space – perhaps as much as $10 million – and multiple league executives think Portland is determined to sign Orlando Magic free agent Hedo Turkoglu(notes).

For now, the Blazers are trying to find a taker for point guard Sergio Rodriguez(notes) and his $1.6 million salary. They’re interested in Dallas Mavericks free agent Jason Kidd(notes), too. The Mavericks want to keep Kidd, who will probably ask for $8 million a season.

Indystar report

I’ve been hearing rumors about how Josh McRoberts has been living in the weight room this offseason.
I saw it with my own eyes when I ran into him at Conseco Fieldhouse earlier this week.

McRoberts said he’s put on 20 pounds of muscle since the end of the season.

Huh. I wonder if they meant that to sound as suspicious as it does.

a letter from Bill Walton to Luke
Luke, you mentioned the historical reference to your team’s abilities. When you get to be my age, trash talking is about all that’s left. I fully admit, Luke, that your team is really, really good. Kobe is supreme. Pau, Lamar and Andrew are all top of the line. And Phil Jackson is brilliant.

Right next to your smile on my spirit and soul are the immortal words of Jack Ramsay, who recently said on the 30th anniversary of the 1977 World Champion Blazers in putting that team’s abilities in historical context:

“I like our team. We’ll take our chances. Anywhere. Anytime. Against anybody.”

Blazers in four, Luke. Never forget why you are named after Maurice Lucas.

there was an arson

during my freshman year. Some former students got into the school after hours and poored a bunch of lighter fluid on the third floor and set it on fire. Luckily the physics teacher happened to be at the school late, heard the sprinklers go off and called the fire department.

This happened a couple weeks after presumably the same people tried to burn down the school from the outside. Which makes a lot of sense as concrete is really easy to burn.

Mercury is a MOUNTAIN OF MUSCLE.

She was supposedly bred by mean people for dog fighting in the ghetto of Tampa (Ybor), but she doesn’t have the lock jaw lotsa pit bulls have. She is real easy to beat in a tug of war.

She’s got dog fighter muscles and look, though, but she is the sweetest puppy in the world. Other dog owners are always scared of her until she starts wagging her tail, and people who are skittish around dogs cross the street to avoid her or look at me real rude.

Tom’s dog is Carlos the Jackyl, mine is Mercury the Destrukteress.

Mercury has a pit look, but she is part weimereiner and I’ve always said that’s what she is when we meet new people or move to a new place. People get so scared of the “pit” word, even though they are the most obedient dogs.

I don't think they could have gotten all those players

E.g. the Rondo pick begat the Rudy pick. And Iggy/Deng were the same draft if I’m not mistaken. But it’s close.

right, the Deng/Iguodala was the same draft. Good call.

But wouldn’t they have had a late first of their own each year to draft Rondo in 06 and Rudy in 07?

Speaking of HS mascots, my high school was the Trojans.

I have never understood why so many teams are the Trojans. Do you really want to name your school’s teams after the people that fell for the old “wooden horse” trick? Seriously, you might as well be the “Idiots” or the “Suckers.”

For that matter, did Woodrow Wilson deserve to have HS’s named after him? His 14 point plan after WW1 didn’t exactly lead to sustained world peace… but that’s another matter entirely.

He was actually better than Murphy, stats wise, batting 3rd to Murphy’s 5th in the order. My coach was real religious and didn’t turn pro after being drafted, instead having a billion kids.

But city leaders are going ahead with plans to convert the Beavers’ home, PGE Park, for soccer, as the soccer league requires.

I’m totally in favor of this.

absolutely

triple A baseball is a lot easier to get back than pro soccer

Gresham 1992

I graduated in the middle of the the Bulls-Blazers Finals. My buddy and I went on a road trip to Canada immediately after graduation, but we vowed to drive back home early if the Blazers won 3 games so we wouldn’t miss the clinching victory and the parade. Sadly, we got to stay in Canada for the full trip :(

Tiger Woods is waaaaay

back. He’s at +4 and the current leader is at -6 with some holes left to play. It is only the first round, but if the potential Tiger comeback from 10 back is pretty exciting. It wouldn’t top his Open win last year on a broken leg/knee, but a 10 stroke comeback would be pretty impressive. I hope the weather holds up well enough.

oh…and Canby 2000.

Tiger was at a disadvantage playing in the weather this morning

the field should even out if the forecast is correct… means those playing tonight/tomorrow morning will get the bad weather, and Tiger will get the good in the afternoon

Do you like Mickelson?

i like him.

i respect his style of play—to just go for it and consequences be darned. It’s kind of exciting. But I always root for Tiger. Mickelson is my second choice in this one though because it’d be cool to see him win before he takes his break to be with his wife during her cancer battle.

sorry that is too old for you

what slang do you kids who grew up in the late 90s use these days

It's not too old for me I just hate that word.

Apparently a different variation of the word ‘creep’ is used these days.
