Stoudamire for Jefferson & #6 pick
Now things are going to get interesting. Who does Phoenix want at #6?

is a blog post.
I thought it was a honest to goodness Boston Globe article. Not a done deal yet.

Kinda stupid for
Minny. Both have had injuries, but Jefferson seems to be like ZBo in the fact that he does not need a ton of athleticism to do his thing. Amare and that eye thing is scary and then add in the 6th as well? Not to mention that Jeff is paid less than Amare as well.

Has there ever been a swap of two players rehabbing injuries of this magnitude?

This would be a pretty dumb move for Minny.
IMO…

Not if Stoudy gets healthy
He’s a way better player than Jeff when healthy. It’d be a gamble though…

In terms of production
he’s not that superior. He’s a more efficient scorer pretty easily, but after that Jefferson has got him beat in his fair share of areas. Neither play good defense, both are coming off major injuries.
If it was a straight up trade I’d probably do it, but including the pick? Amare may faster, more versatile and fun to watch, but his actual impact vs. Jefferson’s is not enough to swap them if Minny includes the pick. Jefferson is no slack when it comes to scoring himself.

What if the Wolves package and flip him.
They may be able to work something else out with a more win now team, or use him as an expiring contract?
I have no idea about these sorts of things, but Kahn is in charge now, right? There could be some roster cleaning going on and Amar’e might be a more useful Steve Francis…

I would prefer Jefferson over Amare if both were healthy. Big if there...
You can have Jefferson for less. He is a better team player than Amare. It doesn’t make much sense to me. Amare will sell tickets, but win you less games.
I think Jefferson would be a steal for a team if he can be had on the cheap. One of the most underated players in the league. Unlike Amare who is slightly over rated. He brings high energy on offense, but a lacking defense with a bit of a Zbo ball hog factor.

The Minnesota T'wolves should improve its interior defense and long-term outlook, with this trade idea ...
being an epic failure on both accounts. I’ve suggested in the past that trading Al Jefferson, Corey Brewer, and Randy Foye to the Charlotte Bobcats for Emeka Okafor and Gerald Wallace wouldn’t be an altogether horrible idea — although most T’wolves fans would flip out over it — since Okafor and Wallace are defensive-minded, yet offensively efficient stars. In my mind, Jefferson is a glorified version of Zach Randolph; moreover, Brewer and Foye are just so-so role players.
In fact, here’s what I’d do if I were somehow hired to GM the T’wolves instead of David Kahn.
1. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=n7vw4j
2. On 6/25/2009, trade Brian Cardinal, Mark Madsen, and the 6th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft to the Chicago Bulls for Kirk Hinrich.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=n64wkl
3. With the 18th, 28th, 45th, and 47th picks in the 2009 NBA Draft, target Terrence Williams, Chase Budinger, Josh Heytvelt, and Danny Green, respectively.
4. After the July moratorium, trade Ryan Gomes, Craig Smith, and Sebastian Telfair to the Indiana Pacers for Jeff Foster and Travis Diener.
5. Sign Rasho Nesterovic to a two-year contract worth the bi-annual exception.
6. Sign D-League standouts like Dwayne Jones and Luke Jackson to one-year, minimum-level contracts.
7. Hire Bill Laimbeer to be the head coach of the squad, with Rick Mahorn as the lead assistant, Jeff Ruland as the pivotman coach, Aaron McKie as the swingman coach, Mo Cheeks as the point guard coach, and Jim Lynam as a consulting tactician.
C: Emeka Okafor
PF: Kevin Love
SF: Gerald Wallace
SG: Mike Miller
PG: Kirk Hinrich
C: Rasho Nesterovic
PF: Jeff Foster
SF: Terrence Williams
SG: Chase Budinger
PG: Travis Diener
C: Dwayne Jones
PF: Josh Heytvelt
SF: Danny Green
SG: Luke Jackson
PG: Bobby Brown
Yeah, that’s my kind of team.
Although they certainly wouldn’t compete for a championship nor have a great chance at making the playoffs, those guys would play an awesome brand of defensively intense, yet offensively efficient brand of basketball.

I would say that team is a hall of famer away from contention

It was a real offer according to Wolves GM Kahn, but they said no
Amare really doesn’t have a lot of value right now, since all teams know he will likely bolt to NY in 2010 (he gave interviews where he praised the city and D’Antoni).

Amare is going to be very hard for the Suns to move.
I see dark times ahead for them.
