Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Several general managers and agents in the NBA believe that the Portland Trail Blazers -- a rising club like the Magic -- might offer the stiffest competition to sign Hedo Turkoglu. The Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks also have salary-cap room to put Turkoglu in play. Turkoglu, 30, who has one year left at $7.3 million on his six-year, $36 million contract, is believed to be asking for at least $10 million a season. -- Orlando Sentinel .....Ben's Take: Turkoglu's shooting would push the Blazers talent into the No. 2 spot in the West.

I wonder if KP would nix him for culture reasons.

I seem to remember something about him being out late partying before a playoff game or two this year.

Ben's take: Turkoglu's shooting would push the Blazers talent into the No. 2 spot in the West.

Uh I don’t buy that. Webster and Outlaw are better shooters. It should read Turkoglu’s ability to distribute and to score would…

by Escrote on Jun 16, 2009 10:46 AM PDT reply actions

agreed

he is actually a horrible shooter, 41%FG, 35.6%3pt FG this year, 42.8%FG, 38.5%3pt FG for his career. His career 3pt% is not bad I guess. His only good year to me was last year, and even at that production, which he failed to reproduce this year, I wouldn’t pay him $10 million per.

I dunno if I were KP I would be awfully tempted.

You have Blake and Bayless who are great playing off the ball and you have Turk that can run the point and at 6’10" can see the entire floor. I am a big fan of forwards and centers that can run the point.

by Escrote on Jun 16, 2009 11:11 AM PDT up reply actions

Right, you always have to ask yourself whose minutes would he be taking?

The Blazers aren’t going to get much mileage out of him dominating the ball at the end of games if it means taking it out of Roy’s hands. And if you don’t take the ball out of Roy’s hands, you need a shooter who can move without the ball. Someone, like, say, Rudy Fernandez.

I don't see Turkoglu in Portland ...

I do see the KP and Blazers happily stoking rumors about how other teams will have to pay outrageous amounts of money to get the players they want. Anyone who is on the trading block or entering free agency can (and should) be linked to the Blazers. But that doesn’t mean they will end up here.

Batum and ariza Are so similar why would you want him?

Because ariza is gonna end up making like 10 mil per.

Heres what to do

take that $10m put it in a CD and use that to pay Batum in a few years. Or use that $$ to sign a vet PG to mentor Bayless and help us in the playoffs.

I like Hedo, but if you look at the stats he is not THAT great a shooter and is a sieve on D. His biggest thing is he is clutch, but with Roy we have a clutch player that will be making $12-15m/y and we do not need another @ $10m.

Yeah just keep outlaw

Outlaw has as much clutchness as the turk
but lacks the pg skills and dribbling

Spend $10 million/year for second seed in the west

Wait a minute….we were one game from being second best (regular season) in the west already…….

pass the Turk thank you.

I would draft Hansbrough before getting Turk. In fact, get Boozer as the back up PF instead.
