Pacers workout profile and another great interview video (as linked in the titel)

Nice profile by a local beat writer (who refreshingly admits he likes Blair a lot but has no idea what the Pacers will do)

Another Blair interview with a local station (audio)

DraftExpress "Word on the street":
We’re hearing that DeJuan Blair is in pretty good shape at the moment, and he continues to have very strong workouts that are easing the concerns teams have about his knee. Blair’s draft range looks pretty steady between 12 and 16, although he will work out for teams above and below those picks. Don’t be surprised to see a team like Oklahoma City or Portland try to make a move for him on draft night, as both organizations are reportedly very high on him.

My suggestion how to snatch Blair ahead of the Pacers and other interested teams:

Reportedly New Jersey likes Omri Casspi, but doesn’t want to draft him at #11. We send Sergio, #24, #38 second round pick, and $2-3 million in cash (New Jersey is one of the teams in need of money) for the #11. They can absorb Sergio with a trade exception for Williams (was a deal to the Warriors I think). They need a backup for Harris, with Dooling being more of a combo and also their first SG backup. We draft Blair at #11

I'm not sold on Blair

This draft is fairly weak at the PF spot outside of Blair/Griffin and Hansbrough

I think you can get a Blair type (big ugly) in free agency:

Richard Hendrix
Shelden Williams

Who would blend well with this team and add toughness.

I think there is some help in the 2nd round:

Toney Douglas
Jermaine Taylor

Would be good 3rd PG, 3rd SG options to blend in with our more finesse players.

good trade proposal

I have never seen blair play, but if he´s good as his stats show, then I´d do this trade.

Why draft Blair at #11

when we could get Hansbrough at #24 for free?

Blair is the better rebounder of the 2

and Hansborough will probably not be around at 24. Blair is also just coming off his sophomore season. If the price is reasonably cheap then Blair seems like the way to go.

Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.

Also

It’s not like Sergio and the #38, & $2Mil is a lot to give up. Some around here (besides Paul Allen) would argue we’d be getting #11 for free in that deal since Sergio only has trade value for a handful of teams.

Brilliant minds think alike

Sorry that I didn’t see this listing before creating a similar fanpost. Maybe the mods can merge them?

Seems like too good a deal for the Blazers, but maybe the money talks, I don't know...

I doubt Jersey actually wants Casspi

Of course it’s possible, but ten days before the draft, how many of these rumors about who teams like end up being true?

yah great proposal though

If it is true I don’t see them passing that up, maybe ask for #32 instead of #38, but that’s it.

It seems to me that Indiana is taking him at 14. So KP needs to get above that..

Sergio and the # 24 can get you a 15 to 20 pick

I wouldnt give up any more than that to move up for any player in this draft not named Rubio or Holliday

Ty Lawson said the Pacers told him they're looking for a PG

So why not Sergio? They like to run that scatterbrained offense, Rodriguez would fit right in

I liked that Blair video. Speak softly and carry a big stick. DeJuan reminds me of a young Buck Williams

and I’ll take that over Jrue Holliday on this Blazer’s team, anyday

Blair is gone at #13 - Indiana.

Here’s an Indianapolis Star sportswriter raving:

IF HE IS AVAILABLE, BLAIR MUST BE THE GUY

Indianapolis is very clearly targeting him.

New Jersey picks at 11

As Givony’s chat described, the Nets like Casspi, and the Blazers are “really high” on Blair. Norsktroll’s idea for swapping their 1st round picks makes a heckuva lotta sense for both GMs

by two4larue on Jun 16, 2009 8:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Rumour has it....

that the Hornets are looking to sell their #21 pick, so what would people think about trying to buy that pick from them, and using that as bait for the NJ pick at #11?

Blazers could make an offer like:
Sergio & #21 + Cash for the #11

This would mean Blazers keep the 24 and can hope for someone to tumble down the board, but also still be able to have a crack at Blair with the #11…

what do people think??

by cLaRkY on Jun 17, 2009 6:03 AM PDT reply actions

I think I would only want to guarantee 1 rookie contract out of this draft

But you never know about KP and Paul Allen.

I know Nate would rather have one experienced veteran in his rotation than 2 more rooks

by two4larue on Jun 17, 2009 4:52 PM PDT up reply actions

there is also the option

of using the #24 (which is retained by buying NOH #21) as trade bait to either grab a veteran (obviously it would need players involved as well)…
Or there is even the option of trading the #24 for future draft picks ready to begin the team building process again….if the #24 was traded for say 2 future 2nd round picks (2010, 2011 or even 2012), with them being second round picks they do not have guaranteed contracts, but can be drafted at a later date and stashed in Europe/D-League to develop into solid players who can either slot into the blazers roster, or be used as trade bait…

just a thought, it might not even be possible, but my mind goes off on its own during the NBA offseason
