Tuesday Pre-Draft Workout Names Announced
The Blazers have sent over the list of names for tomorrow's workouts.
Terrel Harris, Guard (Oklahoma State); Jermaine Taylor, Guard (Central Florida); Garrett Temple, Guard (LSU); Marcus Thornton, Guard (LSU); Joe Ingles, Forward (Australia); Jonas Jerebko, Forward (Sweden)
As always, this list is subject to change. A few notes...
- This is probably the best collection of talent the Blazers have pulled together this year.
- Marcus Thornton, Jermaine Taylor and Jonas Jerebko are slotted as late-first/early-second round selections.
- Joe Ingles participated in the Reebok Eurocamp that KP attended but he didn't exactly light things up.
- Jerebko was also there and got a pretty glowing review. Here's a video interview.
- Garrett Temple previously worked out for the Blazers on May 11. He is not expected to be drafted.
- Terrel Harris doesn't even have a Draft Express profile. Uh oh.
- Late add: Timbo assembled some more information here.

Marcus Thornton is the name that jumps out at me...
Thonton is a 6’4" scoring guard from LSU. He is a penetrator and has a solid jumper (47% FGs), and is a Senior… so he is seasoned. Based off my meth-adiction-like compulsion to be reading so many NBA Draft sites, Marcus Thornton is a players who is valued between somewhere in the First Round 20’s to a mid-Second-Rounder.
Here is what ESPN has to say about him: Draft Projection: Late first to early second
Positives:
A big-time scorer from inside and out
Gets to the line with great aggressiveness
Improving perimeter shooter
Good defender
Negatives:
Undersized at his position (is 6’4" really undersized for a guy who is likely a role player?, NO.)
A little one-dimensional (bench scorer)
Needs to improve his ball handling
Summary: Mar 23 Update: Thornton continues to make a name for himself with his dominant offensive performances in the tournament. He averaged 27.5 ppg in LSU’s two games versus Butler and North Carolina, shooting 8-for-15 from 3 and keeping his turnovers to a minimum. He’s undersized to play the 2 in the pros, but when you look at the terrific season he had, it’s hard not to see him as a legitimate NBA prospect. Right now he’s probably still a second-rounder, but workouts could change the equation. NBA executives aren’t as familiar with Thornton as they are with other prospects, so watching more tape and seeing him up close in a workout could swing things in his direction.
Mar 18 Update: Thornton has had a stellar season this year. Under new head coach Trent Johnson, Thornton has gotten more efficient as a player on both ends of the floor. He’s done wonders for LSU this season.

Terrel Harris, Guard (Oklahoma State)???
To bad it’s not the other Harris…
Paul Harris may have helped himself the most I thought here. He plays so hard. He got in everyone’s face. No one wanted to go against him. On offense and defense. On top of that, his measurements were ridiculous. He came up a bit shorter than expected—only 6-3 in shoes, but his wingspan is outrageous—6-11 ½. He’s also absolutely jacked at 237 pounds, all 100% muscle. On top of that, he measured a no step vertical of 36 inches, which is off the charts. He’s like Ron Artest. "Chase Budinger was awful in my opinion. He just doesn’t play. All he wants to do is shoot jumpers. That’s not basketball. He didn’t want to be there. Didn’t want to compete. He couldn’t put it on the floor. You should have seen his face when he was switched onto Paul Harris. He definitely didn’t want anything to do with him.DraftExpress.com
We really need a defensive stopper up front.

I've been following this guy for a little while
And I want him on our team. Intensity guy +
Ten players, two baskets, 13,000 people, one basketball. And we will decide what is done with that one basketball.

Who is in, who is out
According to DX sleeper Milan Macvan has withdrawn. As has Luke Harangody and Greivis Vasquez.
Rubio, Mills, Gibson are in.

Macvan
That’s too bad. I was thinking he could have been a nice player to grab and stash overseas.

And Ukrainian Sergey Gladyr who is represented by Nic's agent is in, allegedly with a second round pick guarantee
"While Gladyr is still very young, he’s already a big time athlete and shooter/scorer, and from what we saw at the Eurocamp in Treviso, he could end up being a great value pick in the second round for some team."

A 19 year old player from Joventut's farm team in the third Spanish league has made himself available in the draft
Awesome. Sometimes you have to wonder what these players think. Is there an NBA entry strategy that benefits from being undrafted young instead of developing a few years? Maybe in two or three years he would be a regular player for Joventut. His agent is the secondary agent of Rudy by the way, but there is virtually no way he gets drafted.

I remember Ruben Boumjte-Boumjte wanted to go undrafted when he picked him in the second round… if this kid turns out to be good, he can enter the NBA as a free agent without the annoying rookie scale contracts.
