Around SBN: Dissecting Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

I did not now Sergio Llull was in the draft this year. I read this article on Nba.com and was surprised to see he was in there. The NBA point they compare him to is Jose Calderon, but then they write this "Llull has good physical attributes for the NBA, including excellent size and above-average athleticism. He brings great energy to the floor and really gets after it defensively. He's also a much improved perimeter shooter and decision maker, appearing to be one of those late-bloomers who still has upside to grow into." Sorry, but that totally destroys the comparison to Calderon. I only know him from watching him play online in some games, but I liked what I saw. We could draft him, and if Bayless works out he could come over next year to be a back up. If Bayless does not work out I think we would have Llull as insurance. For those that fear another Sergio fiasco, I thought he was very different from Sergio when I saw him.

Yes please!

I’ve been checking up on him for a while and I’m very surprised not to see him creeping into the first round. He’s athletic, large for a PG, and gets good minutes behind a “legend” for Real Madrid. I’d have him ranked over Beaubois or Calathes. Check him out.

He's not like our Sergio

He hasn’t got our Sergio’s passing skills, but he’s bigger, fierier, more athletic and more of a scorer (and defender, I think). He comes across as like the guard version of Andres Nocioni.

Thank you for posting the video links!

I am so glad someone else is excited about him. A point guard that gets an offensive rebound and a putback? Yes! Key block? nice! I think that his point guard skills must be more advanced than Bayless even though you don’t see a lot of assist in the highlights, just because he is getting decent time at point for Real Madrid. I would like to know more about that. He seemed to run the team well when I watched him before, but in europe it’s different because It seems like many positions pass more.
Its an interesting Idea, and I do like his fire and his potential. Of course we are all tired of hearing about potential, but I think he is worth looking into.

hrm, at least we could keep alive hearing "SERGIO TO RUDY!"

"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."

-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.

"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."

-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

Could they still be the spanish connection?

or is it trademarked by Sergio Classic and Rudy?

I say yes (potentially)

Sounds like the only thing keeping him out of round one is his buyout from Europe. I don’t know all the rules regarding these types of transfers, but it seems like it would still be a good deal for us if we didnt have to pay him a first round contract and if we got rid of Petteri in some kind of trade to make room on the books and at that particular position.

Ricky Rubio on Llull (and vice versa)

It is incomprehensible to me, but I think the upshot is that the two are quite comparable in terms of Euro chops (and Llull comes out looking better when you add the D)

by Samsara on Jun 14, 2009 2:01 AM PDT up reply actions

I don't think that's true...

First of all, it was Rubio who was voted defensive player of the year in the ACB, and second, Llull is not the distributor Rubio is. I imagine a lot of GMs have nightmares of Jiri Welsch or (shudder) Sasha Vujacic when they look at Llull.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
