6-13 Junk Drawer - Let's fight

So I just had a neat conversation with a friend of mind all about how he can't stop getting into fights with people. He says this is because of his upbringing where he had to constantly fight just to survive. He says it's tough not to get into fights.

Star-divide

Now I think this is just crazy, but I am generally a pacifist. So I thought I'd throw it to a wide cross section of america the universe here at Blazer's Edge. How are you now and/or how have you been in your life about getting into fights? Who are/have been the instigators, the victims, and the ones who never really experience fighting? Do you like watching fights? Do you want to take this outside?

And let's not get too crazy talking about our sorrid pasts in here; the mods are among us.

Your friend just sounds like he's looking for excuses for his unsupressed anger.

I get into fights or damage people when I’m stressed. I’m deeply ashamed when I get into a fight as I really don’t enjoy hurting vaguely innocent people, it’s happened about six times now and they were all around exam season and/or they involved the bullying of my younger brother.
I’ve always had a short fuse because of your typical issues like bullying when I was younger and my inability to control the anger coming from that but I am doing well with controlling it now, of which I am proud of. Fight free for one year.

congrats on staying fight free!

And you are pretty spot on about my friend. He had this infected cut on his face from some dirty guy scratching him during a fight. When I asked what even prompted the fight, he said that he had no idea: he was probably stressed out, and the guy looked at him wrong.

i agree with bayless, but it could also be big joel

and i don’t think either would start it, rather, they would come in to protect a hard foul or other such actions by another team on roy or rudy or someone else.

Do we, as a Blazer nation, expect to see a on-court fight in the next five years?

Bayless

I am hoping to see Bayless go off on someone someday. Maybe devour the aging corpse of KG one day, who knows.

I’m also hoping to see Pietrus continue what he started at the end of the last game. If you can’t beat them, BEAT THEM!

Oden could be involved in a fight

He is calm, but constant hacking and getting called for fouls could get to him. Roy, Nic, Blake, Bayless also look like good candidates. Maybe even Webster and Rudy. It’s not a team full of goons, but there are some players who I would think are calm yet not afraid to dish out.

having been on both sides of the tracks,

your friend needs to realize that each and every time a person engages in violence, they are risking their life. One weird shot, one weird fall, one strange punch or slip, and you can be dead or paralyzed. To be blunt, you friend needs to grow up and deal with his insecurities.
People who’ve been there, who’ve seen stuff, real stuff, not bar scuffles and school yard antics, those people (unless they are sociopaths) want nothing to do with violence. However, they’ll bring it like the fires of hell if they must.

A really good site on violence, self-defense, and the psychology behind fighting is http://www.nnsd.com the site has a lot of good info and they aren’t really trying to sell you anything. Marc MacYoung is a good guy and he knows his stuff. I’d encourage your friend to read the (pages and pages of) info on the site. I bet at first he’ll be pretty unhappy with it, I know I was. I didn’t want to hear anything that interrupted my macho B.S. However, there is a lot of good wisdom on those pages.

Interesting topic

When I saw the title I didn’t know if it was going to be about fistfights or arguments and I was hoping for the latter, but that’s OK, some of the same psychology applies.

But I’m not going to go into that, I’m going to recommend some books – not for those who need anger management info, but for a peek into a totally different culture – one in which fighting is the norm.

Rick Bragg is the author and the books are All over but the shoutin’, Eva’s man, and The prince of Frogtown. Bragg is a Pulitzer Prizer winner from the New York Times who was born (1959) and raised in Alabama in abject poverty . These books are incredible journeys into the lives of some southern poor whites in the 20th century – his family. Boys were taught to fight and expected to fight. In the third book a boy who wasn’t raised this way comes into (the adult) Bragg’s life and he writes of how very very difficult it was to relate to him.

On a side note, Bragg started his career as a local sports writer. He traveled throughout the area and Starksville, MS gets a passing mention.

The books really grabbed me and taught me about a part of American culture that I knew little about. So very different from my life in the Pacific Northwest. I just bought the book of his newspaper stories, but haven’t had time to read lately.

Love your comment

When traveling across the states a few years ago I came across a restaurant chain called the Cracker Barrel, the entrance to this restaurant is an old-fashioned country store where you can buy old-fashioned candy etc. Well you can also rent CD’s and then turn them in at the next Cracker Barrel.
For some unknown reason I rented this – Carter, Jimmy An Hour Before Daylight: Memoirs Of a Rural Boyhood – Wow, I was completely mesmerized while the miles rolled on by. If you like Books on CD, don’t miss this one. I know it’s a slight tangent from your thought, but it reminded me of this, the Carters were very poor. I really knew nothing about Jimmy before this, my respect for him grew immeasurably .

Not promoting the website, just don’t want to direct someone to the wrong book.
Thought this was cool, a list of recommended readings has both Bragg & Carter on the same short list.

Your friend needs to get some boxing gloves....

It sounds stupid, but my friends and I loved boxing in high school. It releases a ton of stress, and both fighters are willing participants, which takes away the “beating up” of some slightly innocent person. Having a desire to fight is not that bad of a thing, its having a desire to start trouble everywhere he goes that is bad. If he enjoys the competitiveness and anger release of fighting, he should join a gym where it is a controlled environment with like minded people.

I personally loved boxing my friends. Surprisingly, there were rarely hurt feelings or people after a few “bouts” amongst friends on a Friday night. I wasn’t a very good boxer, I have what people like to call a glass chin. I was quick and hard to get a good hit on, but if you caught up to me, it usually stunned me and left me open for a pummeling. Good times.

If your friend can’t channel his anger into a more safe and productive means of getting out his urge to fight, than he is just a hot head and needs to take hurrakane’s advice and grow the ef up. MMA and boxing are readily available and the people involved generally have a good perspective on controlling yourself outside of the gym….

I met my best friend when we got into a fight at the bus stop in 4th grade

But that is not why I am responding to your comment. I am replied to your comment to tell you about the only time I ever used boxing gloves. Me and my friend (same guy as the bus stop deal) got our hands on some really cheap boxing gloves and deciding to spar a little in the front yard. Went went at it for a while then decided to rest. While setting on the front porch, I kept rubbing the front of the right hand glove and in the process ….moved all the padding out from in front of my knuckles on my right hand. When we started to spar again I kinda hung back …just jabbing with my left and when a opening finally happened ….POW with the right. He crumpled as his knees just gave out. We called it day after that shot. He kept saying “wow…..nice punch” and “what did you hit me with? …your elbow?” and stuff like that. I didn’t tell him what really happened til a few years later and then we almost got into a real fight. We now laugh at it .

As a female

I’m probably not alone in not getting in many physical altercations. But I would also never date anyone who got into physical altercations. Pretty much ever. You could make the argument that defending me or defending others would be okay, and probably so, but in my 37 and a half years, it’s never happened.

To me, someone who’s likely to hit others is likely to hit me, too.

My girlfriend takes exactly the same line.

I can be quite an aggressive person, at least from what she has seen of me on a basketball court and she doesn’t want me to constantly be involved in physical conflict because it could always transfer to her. Which is one of the reasons I’ve tried so hard to address my anger, sport definitely helps keep it down though.

It's strange, I don't know what it feels like to be punched and there's some apprehension attached to it.

I was jumped two years ago by a group of guys who followed me and my friends, I got two right hooks to the face and laughed them away but I am almost scared to be hit by someone with some actual force in their arm. Any fight I’ve been in I’ve not been on the recieving end, so getting hit isn’t something I’ve experienced too much.

Pretty good point

I spent a bit of my time studying domestic violence, and so, on the one hand, I couldn’t say that it is a strong relationship between generally physically aggressive people and domestic violence . Sometimes, the most physically abusive guys are the ones who are more passive-aggressive in their day-to-day life. Guys who lack the power in nearly every facet of their life, and they take it out on their domestic partner.

On the other hand, why wouldn’t violence bother you? It bothers me. One of the more difficult things my wife and I had to overcome was that she didn’t understand how my being raised to avoid violence would affect her need for a man that could protect her.

I have gotten in fights when I was younger

But it was never something I looked for. Sometimes things just happen and boys are dumb.

The last person I’ve punched was in Spain trying to defend someone else, and it was dumb of me but I got away with it (it was Amlmart1). I haven’t gotten in a REAL fight (that doesn’t count) since high school and nowadays I just get in verbal arguments almost daily… but for work stuff, not like in the grocery store.

I consider myself a very, very nice and friendly person who really doesn’t like to fight. But, if someone is going to be physically mean to someone else and the only way to make them stop is to hit them, then I would and I wouldn’t feel bad about it.

My wife, hoo doggies, she starts fights all the time, it’s funny. Not with me, but she gets peeved easy with silly things… well, “easy” compared to me, because I am hard to make angry. But when I am angry, I am ANGRY. I think throwing punches and fighting as an adult is really silly except for extreme cases though.

I think knowing the person is the best way to know if they would physically hurt you. I wouldn’t dare touch my wife or any female friend in a hurtful manner, but I am someone who HAS had physical altercations in the past. But, I’m also not someone who does that as an adult and I think they were special circumstances usually.

I'm a peaceful man but a magnet for trouble.

I attended a Raiders game a few years ago. I go to the bathroom and I’m at the urinal, and a drunken Raider fan at the next urinal gets mad at me because my response about the game wasn’t enthusiastic enough for him. He tells me how he’s going to lay into me while we’re both emptying our bladders. I was about to turn and pee on him when his friend, on my other side, told him to lay off.

When I was younger, I would go with friends to a bar or club sometimes. I would just be sitting there having a drink and some jerk would try to pick a fight with me. One guy actually walked up to me, fists clenched, angry look on his face, and just stood there, apparently waiting for me to jump up and get into it with him.

Even my co-workers abuse me. I’ve had two incidents just this year where people blew-up at me.

I don’t attend Blazers Edge get-togethers because I’m afraid Dave would throw a beer in my face.

I have an interesting story about violence.

This past spring break I went to Chicago to volunteer in an elementary school. I was helping in a classroom that housed 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders. However some of the kids had been held back a couple of years so you would find 11 years old 2nd graders and such. The school was located in the south side of Chicago in a very dangerous neighborhood. Most of the kids had difficult upbringings. This really became apparent in the classroom. Small incidents like someone stealing someone else’s pencil turned into a full on fist-fight. It was shocking at first, but after learning that many of the kids had parents in jail, were living with grandparents, had siblings in a gang or were in a gang themselves I could see where the violent outlook on life was. I once told some of the girls to stop yelling at each other (over who got to read first) and they told me that if they didn’t yell at each other they weren’t standing up for themselves so therefore they HAD to get into a fight.

So anyways, thats my piece about experiencing violence. There were so many more fights in that classroom but I don’t really feel the need to describe them all.

I'll be BBQing hamburgers tomorrow.

I had to write BBQing cuz I don’t know whether it’s spelled barbecuing or barbecueing or barbequeing or barbekewing and I don’t want to look it up.

I’ve never found the expression, A word looked-up is a word not forgotten! to be true.

Can you link to what you mean when you say a BBQ?

Just trying to make sure I’ve got perspective on what you’re saying. My wife is here and enjoys the topic. :)

My wife also notes that she feels it’s totally ok to say “We’re barbequeing” when you’re grilling and having friends over, as a description of the social event. But she also notes that hardcare BBQ folks would glare at you for it. :)

by Timmay! on Jun 13, 2009 5:14 PM PDT up reply actions

A BBQ uses brickettes and a grill uses gas.

I have no link to give you, sorry, but I will defer to your wife’s definition if you need me to. I’ve been married so long now that I even defer to other men’s wives.

by MiledAnimal on Jun 13, 2009 5:22 PM PDT up reply actions

bahahaha

Deferring to other men’s wives? I’m not quite there yet. But I got a good laugh, I’ll be there eventually.

Both a gas grill and charcoal grill fall under the definition of grilling. BBQ uses smoke to slowly cook meat over a longer period, and is amazingly tasty.

Here’s a classic BBQ smoker. The meat goes into the big part, and you put wood into the smaller chamber, and it fills the big chamber with smoke (while not heating up the main chamber). You regularly add wood to keep the smoke level up through the day.

But long story short, you could just get away with saying you’re “grilling”. :)

by Timmay! on Jun 13, 2009 5:27 PM PDT up reply actions

It somewhat depends on where your using the term

When I was living in the south I learned that they classify barbecue by what kind of sauce you use. Down there even the smoking method is still just consider smoking. To make it BBQ you have to use the right sauce and seasonings.

So when your just cooking some steaks, burgers, chicken, etc. over some flame real quick it’s called “grilling out.” But barbecuing is a real ritual, and if your ever invited to join in on the festivities drop everything and go enjoy. But don’t make the mistake of telling someone your gonna barbecue and then just serve them something grilled or you will forever be labeled an ignorant yank and have some really disappointed and insulted guest on your hands.

And they’re crazy about their sauces. Every region, state, and even sometimes county and city has its own “official” type of sauce. Some are mustard based, some ketchup based, some vinegar based, some are even mayonnaise based. And some get their smoke from Worcester, some from onions, and some from peppers. There are tons of different combinations that all make for totally unique flavors. But I’m no expert and I’m sure what I’ve listed is only the tip of the basic ingredients. The thing is, every region believes it’s own unique mix is the best, and don’t say anything to the contrary unless you never want to be invited back.

by KobeStoppa on Jun 13, 2009 6:21 PM PDT up reply actions

This article agrees with me

Barbecue By Region

But the one super important thing that I failed to shine light on is that pork is the only meat used in authentic southern BBQ.

Also, Kentucky and Texas style barbecue aren’t considered southern BBQ because they’re more about smoking a variety of meats.

I totally agree

All BBQ/grilling can be amazing. I just spent a lot of time in South Carolina so I heard a lot of preaching about the perfect way to cook pulled pork and other pork delicacies. But I have a buddy up here whose smoked tri-tip can put a lot of southern BBQ to shame. Really, a good cook is a good cook no matter where your from. It’s just different styles.

Drazen’s site is awesome. I love how incredibly biased it is.

In his last NBA season Drazen went a step further. The number one Nets player led the team in scoring with 22.3 points per game (11th in the league) with fantastic 52 shooting percentage which made him for the second time in a row the best shooting guard in the NBA… better than Michael Jordan.

just so its clear, I love the guys on the team and I don’t want major shakeups. Its just unfair to expect Blake to be what he’s not. He’s one of the best backup point guards in the league, not a starter who should be contending with Chris Paul and Tony Parker.

It's all just gotten out of hand

The second youngest team in the league won 54 games. I agree that adjustments need to be made, but the Blazers should improve based on experience and growth alone. The Blazers don’t need a big trade.

I think the biggest problem is that instead of looking at a player on another team that would fit well in Portland, people find a player on the team and try to get rid of them. I would like Kirk Hinrich, but it’s not because I hate Steve Blake and wish he wasn’t a Blazer.

I'm not a big fan of Pop

Especially after he just mailed in that game in Denver….didn’t even play his starters.

I think he’s over-rated as a coach. If he re-invents himself with a new team, I’ll bow to his awesomeness, but until he does something without Duncan, I ain’t sold on him.

Finally, a sig without typeing mistakes.

I love Pop and the Spurs as an organization as a whole

I just don’t think he’s worth trading Nate for.

Finally, a sig without typeing mistakes.

by prezofdeath on Jun 13, 2009 4:07 PM PDT up reply actions

I'd like to see Pop take the youngest team in the league

from 21 to 54 wins in three years before I’d call him better than Nate. I do give him credit for four titles in ten years, but given the Hall of Fame talent he’s had, it’s not such a surprise.

by MiledAnimal on Jun 13, 2009 4:24 PM PDT up reply actions

First things first...

Nate actually took the roster from 28 wins to 21 in his first season in Portland. I know what you’re thinking, that’s not his fault, it’s the roster’s fault. Fair enough.

But from there, you’re right. Nate took a roster of nobodies (Telfair, Dixon, Randolph, Miles, Ratliff, Skinner, plus Blake, Joel and youngsters Outlaw and Webster) from 28 wins to 54.

Wait, we gained Brandon Roy, Lamarcus Aldridge, Greg Oden, Rudy Fernandez since that 21 win team? Hmmm. Maybe there were some outside factors involved besides Nate.

Nate deserves credit, but I doubt Pop would have done any less with this team during this growth cycle.

by Timmay! on Jun 13, 2009 4:30 PM PDT up reply actions

BTW sorry for the sarcasm

I’m in a bit of a mood today in general. And I’m tired of the “Nate took the team from 21 to 54 wins in three years!” thing without also noting that they actually got worse under Nate’s watch first, then the GM rebuilt the team over the next three years. KP took this team to 54 wins in three years.

Pop would likely have been just as capable to handle the last 3 years as Nate. I won’t say more capable, because it’s not fair to speculate on that.

by Timmay! on Jun 13, 2009 4:38 PM PDT up reply actions

You could be right... or wrong.

This is all speculation, so one could argue that the team would have won fewer than 21 games three years ago had a lesser coach than Nate been at the helm. Or that the Blazers would have won six titles if Walton hadn’t broken his foot on a sprinkler head. Or that pink is a prettier color than lavender or periwinkle.

I think we both agree with Dave Berri that there isn’t a lot of difference in results between NBA coaches.

by MiledAnimal on Jun 13, 2009 4:57 PM PDT up reply actions

You could be right… or wrong.

I 100% agree with you on that. It’s why I can’t rate Nate too highly. It’s just so hard to project what another coach would have done the last three years. I feel Nate is average. His biggest lock-in is probably his relationship with the players, particularly Brandon. (also, I think 21 wins was the “right” number of wins for that team, which again leaves Nate at “average”)

I think we both agree with Dave Berri that there isn’t a lot of difference in results between NBA coaches.

Pretty much. There’s exceptions though: I think there are a few below-average coaches (but they only get a few seasons in the NBA, tops). As you noted, a coach like that would have left the Blazers under 21 wins. And there are rare outstanding coaches who somehow get extra out of their teams. Rare, rare, rare. And very hard to do consistently.

Otherwise, the span between “great” and “poor” NBA coaches is small, and often purely due to their GM and the team they’re given. It also can be helped by the assistant coaches they surround themselves with.

I strongly believe an average NBA coach, given the same direction and financing from KP, would likely have the Blazers in the same position as Nate. It doesn’t mean I don’t credit him for it (he still did the work!) but it doesn’t put me into “In Nate I trust” mode.

I’d consider a Nate-for-Pop trade. But since we don’t have a lot of Kobe/Shaq-level egos, I’d be less likely to trade for Phil.

by Timmay! on Jun 13, 2009 5:07 PM PDT up reply actions

until he does something without Duncan, I ain’t sold on him.

Yeah but that’s the key. All the current “great” coaches (not) coincidentally had someone truly special with them.

Phil walked into a cupcake position in Chicago and won 6 titles, then used that to move to a ready-made team in LA to win 3 more. He’s about to win a 10th title with a team that was completed with a very lopsided trade (at the time) to put them over the top.

As you said, Pop is already explained. But more than Duncan, he had the Admiral, Ginobli and (Finals MVP) Parker. Now, how much was that about Greg making those players great, and vice versa? Who knows.

Doc Rivers was considered in the scrap heap of coaches. He suddenly got three hall of famers who did all the word, a defensive genius coach, and now he gets rated highly. Put him on a .500 team with no genius assistants, and I bet they drop to .400.

Mike Brown. Hah. Classic.

I usually have the highest respect for the coaches who take a team that should be mediocre or below, and somehow significantly beat expectations. They have less to work with, and make more happen. When they can do that semi-consistently, wow. That’s a coach who’s likely bringing something to the table more than saying “Give it to Lebron”. Those coaches are hard to find of course.

So there’s a fine line. But back to Pop. I think Brandon is very Duncan-esque. So I could understand trading for a coach who worked with the current Duncan, in order to help the next Duncan. You know? (All hypothetical of course)

by Timmay! on Jun 13, 2009 4:16 PM PDT up reply actions   1 recs

The way I judge coaches in on how they maximize potential

It seems like every player who plays for Phil Jackson has his “best years” while playing under him. Doc Rivers just got lucky—I don’t think he’s that great of a coach. Same goes for the Cavs coach…Mike what-can-Brown-do-for-you.

I think Pop maximizes talent pretty well—seems like he always takes scrubs and turns them into decent players.

Nate is the same way—he took a crappy Seattle team and made them relevant. Comes to Portland and does the same.

Anyone can be blessed with a star player, but can you get the most out of ALL your players? That’s a good indicator, I think, of a coach’s ability.

Finally, a sig without typeing mistakes.

by prezofdeath on Jun 13, 2009 4:22 PM PDT up reply actions   1 recs

I think the best test of a coach’s ability is their skill at adjusting within a playoff series. Pop is one of the absolutely best at this. Remember, he killed the “forever-dynasty” of Kobe-Shaq in 2003. They were supposed to rule the universe for a decade.

by Timmay! on Jun 13, 2009 4:31 PM PDT up reply actions

Pop has coached circles around Brown when they met in the finals

Phil Jackson might have benefitted a lot from the situation, but he isn’t a bad coach by any means. In fact I think his greatest asset is not so much strategy but handling big egos. He could be the best in the league at that. It’s also what makes Doc Rivers a better coach than people initially gave him credit for, while Rivers is a bad tactician/strategist. And Jackson does come up with good things every once in a while. The decision to not advance the ball in the last game as most coaches would with so little time left, but order a kind of running transition that completely confused Hedo and Lewis if they should pressure all over the court or just guard the perimeter? That’s on Jackson, and he beat SVG with that. You think Nate would have pulled that move? I don’t.

That’s absolutely true. He’s great with egos. There’s limits (See: 2004 Lakers) but that’s his specialty. I’m not sure he’ll want to coach again after LA, or else he’ll end up like Chuck Daly in Orlando.

He has gone away from playing the triangle. Simmons calls it “the rectangle” in his game diary: Kobe at the top of the key with 4 guys watching. That’s not highly creative. But no matter if one of his assistants or Phil came up with it, that end of game play was pretty genius. Forcing the whole defense to move backwards instead of guarding all their guys at the shooting spots didn’t cost the Lakers much time, confused the Magic and likely contributed to Jameer backpedalling too far and behind the three point line. That SVG apparently also didn’t order a foul helped too :)

I don’t want to join team Bayless though.

by tominhawaii on Jun 13, 2009 3:46 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't expect much from Batum

I suspect he has a year of growth with low minutes coming up. He’ll steadily improve over the next few seasons. I know it’s probably an unpopular opinion, but yeah.

I think Nate will play Bayless as much as possible, whether starting or otherwise. I’m a wee bit concerned that half the site will see Bayless as Jarrett Jack Part 2 by midseason, when he doesn’t meet their expectations immediately… mirroring how quickly most people turned on Sergio in his second season, after he was seen as a savior in his first.

I suspect Rudy will improve after a full season of NBA experience, plus weight training and further conditioning. Not crazy improvement, but he’ll be considered a primary member of the team as the official 6th man.

by Timmay! on Jun 13, 2009 3:37 PM PDT up reply actions

I can see that

My self talk is that in two years that Roy, Rudy, and Batum will play the 1 (Batum only on fast breaks), 2, and the 3, and Bayless will play lots of 1 and 2 and there won’t be many more minutes for any other 1, 2, or 3’s.

I’m not going to fall in love with Bayless

until we know if he can dish the ball. Don’t get me wrong, I love everything else about him, but we specifically bring him in to distribute the ball, and we don’t even know if he can do that yet. Let me stat that differently – I don’t like what I’ve seen in that area – at all. When we see that part of his game start to develop I feel a lot better. Really looking forward to what we see in the summer league play.

I mean, if you can’t afford a summer league team, why finance that? They probably have to, but I could see that coming.

I wish they would utilize the D League better--more like baseball's use of minor league teams.

It seems like hardly anybody uses it—it just isn’t that interesting. And I live about 5 minutes from a D League team’s stadium….(Go Bighorns!).

Maybe even let teams expand the roster by one or two players, who have to play in the D-League and could be called up only for injury replacement, or something. Those DL guys make very little dollars: it wouldn’t affect payroll in any significant way.

There are several sources saying the Blazers are intrigued by Curry (as are the Knicks and Bobcats)

One the Charlotte Observer, this interview, something on the MSP, … He would be interesting for his shooting ability as an off-guard. Problem is he is not very athletic and it’s not sure he can defend NBA PGs. Would the Blazers risk to go into a new season with him and Bayless? Would they move Bayless? That’s pretty tricky.

Here is the complete conversation they are citing

CL: Last time we talked before the Bobcats workout, you’d mentioned some other teams. Has your workout schedule started to take shape between now, after the Knicks, and the draft? Who else are you getting ready to workout for?
SC: The Washington one is set, and after that it’s still open. We’re in talks with a lot of teams trying to get the right schedule going for the last week and a half. Beyond Tuesday in Washington, I don’t have anything set yet.
CL: Last time we talked, you mentioned the Thunder …
SC: Oklahoma City, Portland and … I think that was it.
CL: There was another one, the Bucks.
SC: Oh, Milwaukee. We’re still talking to all those teams. I don’t really know what’s going to happen beyond Tuesday.
CL: I know last time we talked you said if things went well maybe you’d be lucky and be able to shut it down early. You don’t feel like you’re at that point yet, I take it?
SC: No, I’ve got a lot of work to do. If a team calls and wants to see me, I have to take it seriously. I’m going to keep my strategy going, but be open to different teams and different situations. I’ve got a week and a half left, so a lot can happen in that short amount of time.

Maybe you should ask BRP for help.

He seems to be the resident love doctor. Or maybe you could ask Prez about the friend zone. He seems to be the most familiar with it.

BRP has more moves than white lightning

but a lot of times it all boils down to one thing, if you’re too passive you land in the friend zone. She might really like you, but if you’re waiting for a sign, you may never get it.

Always listen to Lupe.

Its a good rule of thumb. However, never listen to Snoop. He will get you into all sorts of trouble.

Go with your gut on that one.

I personally can listen to Snoop without being willed to smoke weed, drink gin and juice and generally carry on like a hooligan. If you are less strong-willed, perhaps you should drown him out.

reminds me of a concert i went to in my teenage years

Before the song the MC said…“hey portland, ya’ll ready to keep it gangsta?!?” and the crowd full of suburban caucasian teens screamed their hearts out.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
