Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

"We are very pleased to announce that John Nash will continue to be the General Manager of the Trail Blazers organization," said team President Steve Patterson. "In his role, John is the chief architect of our club. We recognize that this is a very important offseason for our franchise and John gives us the continuity that will help us achieve the vision for our basketball team.

We are excited about the young core of our team and they achieved tremendous growth and gained invaluable experience this past season. As we evaluate every possible opportunity to complement what we have started, I am confident that John’s leadership on the basketball operations side of our organization will allow us to successfully turn our team around."

While with the Trail Blazers, Nash engineered the trade with Atlanta for Theo Ratliff and Shareef Abdur-Rahim and a draft-night deal with New Jersey that netted Viktor Khryapa. He was instrumental in drafting Sebastian Telfair, Sergei Monia and Ha Seung Jin in 2004, and was also responsible for the free agent signing of center Joel Przybilla, who finished the season as the NBA’s 7th leading shot blocker."

This was four years ago. Emphases mine. See link for full press release including pictures. The ONLY really good player mentioned for whose acquisition he was responsible: Joel. Bonus points for the players who were at least helpful to acquire Roy and LaMarcus in 2006. Happy trails John and Steve.

engineered the trade…

is like having on your resume, “engineered the Tacoma Narrows Bridge”.

In all seriousness, it’s easy to poke fun now, but this was still at a time when the team was trying to fix things. They might not of had the skills in place to do it yet, but they recognized the problem and were trying.

The cowards never started
The weak died along the way
Only the strong survived
They were the Trailblazers

…and this draft set us up for failure in the 2005 draft by passing on CP3 and D-Will.

You can’t blame him for not trying, but he didn’t have a great track record. And it’s just funny that they use the same words KP could use now to describe the roster and last season.

That was my favorite quote by far...

Kryhapa – bust, no longer in nba
Monia – bust, no longer in nba
Ha – bust, never belonged in nba
Telfair – meh

I would say he batted about .150 in that draft….

How dare you, Viktor just reached the Euroleague finals with Moscow this year and almost won until he fouled out

The announcers were even fantasizing that the Bulls would be kicking themselves for letting him go.

I liked Viktor

He would be a good role player for just about anyone.

I was bummed he went back to Russia to pray to Lenin or whatever they do there. He would be a fine Blazer!

can i cut the tires on your car for making such a bad prediction? or i can make equally bad ones i guess. sergio will have a 17-1 ast-to ratio next year, or maybe portland will resign shavlik and he will average 30pts 20reb and 15ast next year
