Just a thought…
I am personally in the camp that believes Portland shouldn’t make any drastic moves and hurt their depth over the next couple of months with big aggressive trades that would change the look of this team. I believe the Blazers should keep it simple by drafting a backup PF with the 24th pick, and also hopefully signing a veteran PG this summer through free agency. Other then maybe a few other minor tweaks here and there we should let this current (5-6 core players) team gel.
That being said, would it not be prudent to try to trade some of this years picks (possibly 2 or 3 of their second rounders) and Portland’s next couple years 1st and/or 2nd round picks to other willing teams for their first round picks in say 8-10 years? That way come 2018-2019 we can reload with multiple young and exciting players and in doing so revamping the team quickly in 1-2 years. We wouldn’t have to suffer through multiple years of mediocrity with absolutely no shot of the playoffs. We'd then be looking at that squad exactly the same way as we’re looking at this current roster.
Now go ahead and lite me up!!!

That's weird, you and the author of this fanpost have the same user name.
What are the odds of that?
there are rules about how far out you can trade picks, and somethin like a rule that you can't trade your picks in consecutive years...
but I don’t know the ins and outs of em

I think...
this is an excellent idea. The only move I would do is find a way to move sergio without bringing in high minute rotation players.

yeah you can't trade more then three years

That only works perfectly with Isiah Thomas at the helm of a team, who did it in the Marbury trade
That pick now belongs to Utah, of all teams. The original deal was this for comedic value:
2004-01-05 to Suns: Antonio McDyess, Maciej Lampe, Howard Eisley, Charlie Ward, rights to Milos Vujanic, 2004 first round pick (#16-Kirk Snyder), 2006 protected first round pick (top 25 in 2006, top 24 in 2007, top 23 in 2008, top 22 in 2009, unprotected 2010 which it will finally be), $3M cash
For
Stephon Marbury, Penny Hardaway, Cezary Trybanski
It's not the sexy choice
But I’m all for it.
You know, the whole “if it aint broke” thing.
I know less than half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
Don't even keep the 24th
Trade Sergio to NY for 2010 2nd rounder and cash – This gets us even further under the cap so we could possibly sign a player like Bass
Trade the 24th pick to San Antonio for the 2011 1st Round pick (top 10 protected) and there 2010 2nd round pick. – San Antonio wants Omri Casspi this would allow them to get him and it would clear even more cap space for us as well as giving us San Antonio’s pick in the year they will need to rebuild.
Draft Cole Aldrich 2010

now this makes a ton of sense.
I’ve been onboard for something similar for a bit now.
Just clearing Sergio for a future 2nd rounder or two gives you 1.5 million more to play with this summer. That’s a BIG deal, especially since the team probably doesn’t want him here anyway and he doesn’t want to be here either.
Dumping the #24 for a future pick gives you another million. Now our 5.8 becomes 8.3. That might be enough for a Kidd or Sessioins or Milsap or whoever you might want to go after. And we haven’t lost a thing by doing this. Even if we don’t make a FA move or unbalanced trade, we are that much more primed to do so mid-season if an opportunity presents itself.
it’s not the flashy move, but it just may be the smart one.
How did you guys win that?

What would be the wait time on a free agent who was fishing for a "better deal"....
Or is Kp that good to lock it up and get it done the day the gate opens…..
What are the chances of us … Being out bid? or whathaveyou.
The Faith don't panic, the faith freaks out, burns out farms, and torchs small villages in the name of The Faith.
the top tier of free agents generally have a deal in place before the moratorium ends — they sign very quickly. but this year, who knows? there is always a guy or two who don’t get the offers they expect, and between the economic situation and the fact that only a handful of teams will have money to spend and be willing to spend it, it could lead to some guys hanging around a while.
As for being outbid, that’s always a possibility of course. And it mostly depends on who we are talking about.

After listening to Mike Rice talk about Blair
I’m even more convinced that he should be KP’s first round “target”
Find out where he’s going to fall, then trade up and snatch D-Blair. Good guy to have backing up LMA, Rice’s son said he was the best off rebounder in 20 years and no one can keep him off the boards. Blair gains weight easily and this is why there is concerns re: his knees. But KP could stick him with Bayless and the trainers right away and then release the beast at Vegas
is bayless becoming the work out partner for our fat players
That's right, that's a picture of me with my new bff Joel Przybilla. He said my Billy Idol Karaoke was spot on.
Get the Hawks' pick
They’re going to be terrible in 2018. And only two years after their 2016 title — nobody’s going to see it coming. And the Bucks’ first three years in Beijing are going to be tough — those are all lottery picks too.
Sticking up for Travis Outlaw since 2008 and Steve Blake since two weeks ago.
Can an NBA owner own a Spanish league team as well?
Would Paul Allen be able to put together a competitive team out of second round picks? Maybe start out in the LEB play up to the ACB league? Ideally start in the ACB and buy out TAU Ceramica. The team plays in the town of Victory. That has to be a good sign right?
