Podcast Fun and Games

Here's this week's version of the TrailBlazers.com podcast starring Casey Holdahl of the Center Court Blog and myself.  Gavin Dawson was entertaining radio-type poobahs today and couldn't join us but will return next week just in time to start the draft talk.

This week we recap the Houston-Portland series with some perspective, talk about most of the Blazers people have questions about, speculate on what the team will be looking for this summer, and discover that Casey really, really sucks at covering his multi-tasking.

You can download the podcast here or click on Casey's link above to stream it.

rudy is just the man..

i really hope we never trade or get rid of him. Hope he won’t get mad/upset if he doesn’t get enough minutes.

Dave done owes me a post too.

I asked you about shot selection and you said you would “get to it.” If you don’t write it, I’ll change my name to daveinrehab.

Another Great Podcast

There were a lot of points I wanted to touch on and I have forgotten most of them. I think I should have made an open thread FanPost of this podcast. There was something about a veteran point guard that I wanted to comment on only because it’s the only thing I can remember.

I can see the team getting a crutch veteran point guard that is only good for 2-3 more years. I don’t know who that is, but I think it is a role that needs to be filled if Bayless or Sergio is traded. Baygio might get some free development minutes like Oden did this year, and at the same time, it would be nice to have a stopgap. I can really care less though, it’s just the only thing I recall at the moment.

awwww

I was hoping to postulate ideas as to why he was a no show again.

"Fernandez, to my eyes, is the Blazer who walks that walk most comfortably. A lot of Portland's fans (egged on, dare I say, by their local broadcasters) lament things like how Ron Artest or Yao Ming get to hit Brandon Roy's arms.

But I suspect Fernandez sees all that and thinks: We get to hit arms! Cool!"

I love the podcast.

Love it.

Thanks

I really appreciate that. Blogging is a great joy and a lot of work mixed together but the podcast is just pure fun for me. I love doing radio as well, but the medium is such that a 30 second answer is long. Some topics just need more than 30 seconds to cover properly. The podcast is conversation and freedom both. The fact that I get to do it with Casey and Gavin—both of whom are friends and both of whom know more about the Blazers than I think folks get to see on a regular basis (Gavin because he’s in the entertainment business and Casey because he works for the team and things have to follow a proper order)—makes it that much better.

"Give the guy his time" - don't entirely agree

Just hit a nerve with me with the comment about guys having to earn/seize their chance to play. While that would be nice, it often doesn’t work that way. Would Batum have played at all if Martell hadn’t gone down? What about Jermaine ONeal and Drazen Petrovic? They didn’t “earn” enough minutes for us to realize that we had something special.

I’m definitely not sold on either Bayless (he still isn’t a PG, or even close to it) or Sergio and I think the latter actually did get a pretty good run this year. However, PG’s usually take time to develop, and we’ll have to bite the bullet and give someone a shot unless we want to buy an aging vet (Bibby) who has a downside.

The Jinx

The Nuggets effectively handed over the first round jinx to BRoy and Blazer Nation on the last day of the season. By letting the Blazers blow them out and subsequently raising payoff expectations for your team, lead to the first round THUD you saw. Good luck figuring it out before all these young stars’ contract are up for renegotiation.

Thanks

but I didn’t consider it a “THUD.” They exceeded expectations even without getting out of the first round. End of story.

everyone expect 46-48 wins, they won 54… pretty good season if you ask me.

Exactly.

I would take this team and the season they just had over the Nuggets and the classless way they have played this season any day of the week.

Alright I got another question

Casey said outside of Aldridge and Roy he doesn’t see other championshipish guys on the roster then they both of you spend 10 minutes saying both Batum and Rudy have that championship swag. What gives?

That's called

“Going off the top of your head” I believe. And then the top of your head thoughts are expanded by conversation.

And

I just read the Dwight Jaynes “You be the GM” piece and my first thought when Casey mentioned it was that I wanted to know what Jaynes’s said in the past about Bowie/Jordan/Drexler. Because I hope he’s never said Jordan and Drexler would have worked together. That would pretty much contradict what he wrote about Rudy.

They he calls Rudy a star and says he needs to be traded to give playing time to Webster and Outlaw. Come one man! I love all three guys, but you gotta keep the best.
