Another voice cheering for the Blazers
A little background first. My wife pretty much hates sports on tv or radio. She complained all season about the yelling (me), the noise (of the loud tv), and the time it takes away (from us being together). As the season drew to a close she started watching the games with me. We started winning by large margins at that point. I assumed this was her simply giving in to the fact that if she wanted to see me from 6-9 pm it was going to be in front of the tv with the Blazers playing. So she watched the playoffs with me. She watched us fall to the Rockets.
Monday I watched the Rockets play that gold/purple team. Being a fan of basketball in general I gained some respect for the Rockets. I was cheering for them, especially because of who they were up against.
Suddenly I was interupted. "Why are you cheering for Houston?" I was scolded.
"I want them to win. They have some great players. They play great D", I fire back. "Brooks just schooled the Fish!"
"I don't like the Rockets right now." she says quietly. "They beat us..."
Right then I realize– we have another fan. In fact, she recalled some fond memories of her grandmother chain-smoking, rocking in her chair and listening to the Shonz. She said her grandmother never missed a game, and preferred the radio.
Good times. Some sort of deep inner Blazer came out Monday, in post-season even.
Just thought I'd share that.

Similar story for my girls...
My husband and I resumed our Blazer watching when Brandon was a rookie. Our daughters tolerated our escalating fandom with the usual pre-teen/teenage disdain. When we went in on season tickets with a friend they rolled their eyes and went along with it with mild interest. This season their interest was piqued a lot more when a certain sexy Spaniard joined the team, resulting in the inevitable purchase of “I <3 Rudy” shirts.
But something funny happened about January… The began to really watch the games. They started asking when they get to go to the games with us (resulting in even more ticket purchase$$$$). Then, they started with the questions and analysis. In February they had mastered the substitution patterns and were yelling at the tv to “push it up” even before we did. By March, they were arguing with their friends dads on the Sergio/Bayless issue and keeping track of magic numbers and schedules. Mind you, these are 14 & 15 year old girls who don’t play basketball and never have! The kicker for me was watching Game1 of the Laker/Rockets with my 14 year old, who said “I hate that they beat us, but wouldn’t it be great to have Battier with us in there banging next to Lamarcus?”. I think she’s a fan for life!
Blazermania has become a family affair and I can’t help but smile when I think about how it came about. I look forward many more years of cheering together!

Cool
"The brownies,'' Fernandez said after the game. "The brownies are good for me to make three-points.''
I always thought "The Schonz" and "Ann Schatz" were too close name-wise
I always confused Schonz with Schatz and vice versa. The only mystery that remains, however, is whether Ann Schatz is “annthefan” of Bedge fame.?.?
that was my only question
but if I think of another one, I’m coming right back to you timbo, ye master of box scores you..
Your daughter is my hero!

A few weeks ago we had TNT on waiting for a Blazers game
My wife, who could never be confused with a sports fan, walked into the room, glanced at the tv for a few moments, and then said, “That can’t be the Blazers; their game isn’t beautiful.”
My wife doesn't enjoy the game on the TV as much as in person
I took her to Game 5 against Houston and she really enjoyed herself and the game. She loves the Blazers because she loves me. I’m not fooling myueslf to think she would watch the game of her own accord. BUt as she puts up with my love for the Baketball, her Blazer fandom will grow, as it is inevitable.
My wife once looked at me, ripped open her shirt, and said, "Take me!" After an Aldridge dunk.
