Greg oden off-seson

i think that the blazers are afraid to exercise oden to much because of his knee. when he is on the court even if he hasn't played that much he looks tired. i think they should just go for it in the off season and get Oden in shape so hes ready to go 40 mins and be able to still run up and down the court. he should also work on his defense so he can go 40 mins without getting in to much fould trouble. i think those 2 things will improve his play and we can have a solid center for the future.

yeah

I don’t think they should be worrying about the knee any more. He’s played 2/3 of season with no signs of lingering trouble from the microfracture.

It’s time to put in some work, focusing on technique and conditioning. Can’t worry about the knee anymore.

by tominrehab on May 5, 2009 9:49 PM PDT reply actions

Correct.

IF they’re going to spend his entire career worrying about his knee then why even have him on our roster? Time to let (or make) him go to work.

(I put the word IF in caps so tominrehab will realize that I’m only refering to one specific topic and not making a generalization about everything that has ever happened in the history of mankind.)

I don't understand why the "IF" should be capitalized

that doesn’t signify anything to me… I’m confused???

by tominrehab on May 5, 2009 11:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Because I'm not saying it WILL happen, just IF.

Just like I didn’t say ALL things true are funny. Lemme explain it like you are 5…

Greg in college moved his feet on defense. In the NBA his conditioning was not the same and he didn't

move his feet. He needs to get back to the conditioning where he can play 40 minutes a game. This summer he needs to do a lot of cardio.

by BRoyInThe4th on May 5, 2009 10:47 PM PDT reply actions

This offseason will be the most telling or Oden's career to be....

I see two possible scenarios:

1. He works hard on conditioning in the off season, puts in time in the weight room and in cardio to get his body in game shape to play 30 minutes a night and regain some quickness, explosion, flexibility and agility that he once had. It will show that he is serious about being great in the league and realizes that his physical capabilities are a huge component to this team’s success

2. He is out of shape and tries to catch up in summer work outs and preseason. It will show his mentality is that he doesn’t need to work year round to make himself and this team better and isn’t serious about moving to that next level in his play.

This is the first off season he is not coming off an injury, is unsure about where and in what system he will be playing in next year, and knows who his teammates will be next year. He also has the most room to improve his physical skills ever in his career. He really needs to capitalize on this time and make the most of it if for himself and the team. To me this is the biggest offseason question mark. Mare than any trade scenario.

Take away Nate's addiction, trade Travis Outlaw.
I want Kirk Hinrich!!!!!

He spent last summer working on his physical shape

but that was more rehab than conditioning.

I’d rather have him work on basketball skills than getting in shape at this point. Dude should watch some tape and practice some footwork.

Yellow Mamba FTW!

Oden

needs to accept the invite from USA basketball. (its only a three day workout in late July) Then for sure go to Pete Newells big man camp.(A week in Hawaii how ruff is that?) Oden needs to work his butt off this summer, school is fine but Basketball is his job.

I try to help with everything," Fernandez said. "If the coach says go rebound, I go rebound. I work for the team.

""If I'm playing this game to get media and attention, I shouldn't be here," Aldridge said. "I'm here to play basketball, and do what I can do to help this team win."

His stare became blank. It was apparent he was back in that place, on the Rose Garden's logo, picking up Aaron Brooks as the crowd nervously roared.

pete newell

is dead dude, and as for defense he needs desperately to work on his offensive game period.around the league everyone saying the blazers have no low post presence.well he better get in the damn gym and develop one.and stop wacthing those dumb disney movies.

by fatty on May 6, 2009 8:44 AM PDT reply actions

hey fat jeezy

Pete Newall may be dead, but guess who isn’t… That’s right, the new assistant coach at Oregon, who was a Newell discipline… I mean disciple.

Why don’t the Blazers and their Odensheeple hire that guy?

Huh? No answers? I thought so fatty. You’re speechless, aren’t you?

Here’s your boy, fatty:

the sooner

he gets his 7’0 waste in the gym,the better the whole franchise will be.

by fatty on May 6, 2009 8:53 AM PDT reply actions

7'0 "waste"

You’re calling him a “waste”?

Fatty, my fatty… wow, just wow.

Durant is terrible defender fatty. Durant couldn’t guard Terry Shiavo if his life depended on it.

How many rings will Oden have compared to Durant? Don’t avoid the question fatty. You know the answer. You just won’t admit it to yourself and you family.

by tominrehab on May 6, 2009 9:02 AM PDT up reply actions

if durant continues

to score and be a nba marketing guy he’ll be on d.stern’s wheel, while it will be b.roy carrying the blazers not g.oden.sorry oden has done nothing yet.while durant=26.8-7.0 a night after 2 seasons.are you serious with that ? dude.

by fatty on May 6, 2009 9:17 AM PDT reply actions

deal with it

durant will become a perennial all8star beginning next season, will g.oden be at least a go to guy in the low post.so far nothing from oden.so you just keep knocking the chosen 1.also okla.city=50.mil in capspace and 5 #1’s in the next 2 drafts.durant’s future is very very bright.i can’t say the same about g.oden who many already believe he’s the new s.bowie.

by fatty on May 6, 2009 9:21 AM PDT reply actions

And Durant here

instead of Greg would have allowed us to be swept instead of taking this series to six games.

by TSE on May 6, 2009 9:43 AM PDT up reply actions

gee

did i miss something did g.oden havw a presence in the houston,oh he did really what a foul every 2 minutes.dude stop waving the pom*poms and just admit it.he’s done nothing period period.durant=26.8-70 board oh wow now that’s earning your paycheck book it heeheehee.

by fatty on May 6, 2009 10:32 AM PDT reply actions

you tout Durant's numbers and talk about how many fouls per minute Oden has

Well, how would you like it if Oden came on here and touted your cholesterol level all day long? Probably wouldn’t like it, would you. I don’t understand why you have to come on here and rip him all day. Again, move to Pakistan where you can literally and figuratively cast stones at people if you enjoy it so much. Why do you have to hate? Is it because your own life is unsatisfying? Before you tell Oden what to do this summer why don’t you join 24hr fitness for the summer? Actions speak louder than words fatty. Right now your words are hollow, friend.

by tominrehab on May 6, 2009 10:40 AM PDT up reply actions

uhhhh, yes you are missing something. In the series I saw Greg did a pretty darn good job of defennding Yao when he was on the floor. I thought he was one of the few blazers who manned up against Houstons relentless physicality.

Now, were his numbers anything to write home about? Obviously not. His numbers were awful. But it’s obvious that he understands ( and enjoys ) the violence that is the NBA paint. Once the game slows down for him he is going to be very effective.

by dario argento on May 6, 2009 10:43 AM PDT up reply actions

If you don't think

Greg had a presence in game 2-5 then I don’t know what you were watching. Without Greg playing great defense on Yao and making Yao pay attention to him on defense then we would have been swept.

Also could you please learn to hit reply to a person instead of making a new post. Thanks.

#1

the rockets went away from yao on offense, and 2-can you guys just accept it,he’s so far has not lived up to his so called messiah build up you odenfanboys have given him.stop hating on"the chosen 1’k.durant.and tell your boy to start hitting the gym,and getting a real education on how to be a legit nba bigman.

by fatty on May 6, 2009 11:16 AM PDT reply actions

the excuse makers in this room

for oden is very very sad,i bet most of you are the same guys deep inside who resent how great b.roy is.i know it bothers a lot of you odenfanboys that it is roy as"the franchise" and not g.oden.just admit and i’ll leave the kid alone.
