Roy, Aldridge and Oden invited to summer USA Basketball camp.
For their sake, you hope that if they choose to go that they do well. Though I do have a bit of trepidation regarding this.
You knew it was only a matter of time before Roy would be asked to play for team USA. And with that comes less R&R time over the offseason to cool down. But these guys are still young now, thankfully. Should be ok for a while.

But couldn't it be great experience for him
to practice with those guys?
Rudy, Rudy, Rudy,
Roy, Roy, Roy!
It is a great opportunity for Oden.
He can watch other great centers do what they do on a regular basis, and hopefully pick up a trip or two.
This also solves the going back to school weight gain issue. As long as he stays healthy, he’ll be getting in some good conditioning.
Yes! Yes! In the face!
Does it say anywhere is not invited? Maybe he is
And Team USA last summer had just Howard as a real center. So they do well to look at a few other options.
Sure he does.
I doubt he makes the final cut. But he’s a perfect big defensive type guy for other players to go against in practice.
Plus, the Olympics are still a ways away, so Oden might just be the second or third best American center in the league by then. His only real competition is Bynum, who might be injured again by the time the Olympics role around.
Roy is the best player in the world with the exception of Incarcerated Mike from Queensbridge .

Oden could be injured again too
But, I definitely think it’s a great opportunity to get reps against the best in the game.

In 3 years
I’m guessing Yao and Dwight Howard will still be very, very good.
Rudy, Rudy, Rudy,
Roy, Roy, Roy!
The list for American centers is really short.
LISTED BY PER.
1. Dwight Howard,
2. Al Jefferson,
3. Shaquille O’Neal,
4. Andrew Bynum,
5. Marcus Camby,
6. Chris Andersen
7. Greg Oden
8. Brook Lopez,
9. Al Horford

Al Jefferson is more of a PF than center.
He’s an outstanding player, though. He’d be going if he weren’t injured also. Horford, Camby and Andersen are also more PF than C. This shows just how thin the US is at center. If Oden was any other position other than center, he almost certainly doesn’t get this invite.
Yes! Yes! In the face!
For international ball he would be fine.
Same for Chris Anderson, especially since the goal tending rules are a bit more relaxed. He would block 10 shots a game.

Looking at that list
Oden totally deserves to be called up. Man, we are thin at that position. Loaded with great PFs, though.
I hope they go
I know people worry about players getting hurt, but look at what it did for those guys last year. All top 5 MVP candidates went to the games. And look at what it did for Carmelo. It will teach our guys how to be champions
very nice
But I like to be here. Oh, I like it a lot! Said the Cat in the Hat. To the fish in the pot.

This sucks
They don’t need to waste their time with that junk, they all should have their own personal trainer/coach who spends 60 hours a week with them working on skills that the folks at Oregonlive says they need improvement on.
" i wish you were my dad :)" - In Walks Rudy
"Junk"?!
Team USA is what all US born basketball players should aspire to be a part of. The highest honor in the basketball world is to play for the USA team. I would think Rudy, Sergio, and Batum also would rather play on their national team than in the all-star game.

I think you might have been taken in
by tominhawaii’s sarcasm.
Or I got taken in by yours. One or the other.
He's all upset about poeple saying TO is not a commited offseason worker.
I am one of them, but I didn’t mean in a normal player type of way. I meant in a championship-caliber player type of way.

60 hours is PROBABLY enough......
…..but they need to dedicate at least 2 hours a week to working with Bayless on perfecting the scowl. All three of these guys sporting B-Rex’s intensity is good for at LEAST 2 to 3 more wins next season.
Yes! Yes! In the face!
they are going to be playing ball in the summer anyway
may as well be playing against international competition and against the other top US players in practice, rather then playground superstars, D leaguers, and others.
How did you guys win that?
"We scored enough points. We scored 107, they scored 105.

Aldridge
is it just me, or is his game perfect for playing center in international ball?

Bosh played center for Team USA majority of the time
Aldridge would be a good option on offense knocking down international 3’s. His defense and rebounding is still suspect.
Life is not by chance. Basketball is life.
I really don'y think Greg will want to go.
He won’t say as much but just looks at it as another burden. He wants to spend Summer in Ohio.

Treat people well because Karma can hit you at any second.
He said he would go...
“Nobody has said anything to me,” Oden said. “I’m interested and would go.”

are you saying that playing basketball is a burden for Greg?
No wonder he is so depressed during the season…
What are the odds of him staying in Portland when his rookie contract is over?
1/1

i dont think oden will want to leave portland because of the occasional hater on BE.
If BE haters ran the team, Nate would be fired, Jeryyd Bayless would be starting, and BRoy would be MVP
so 20-24
get an invitation…
how many do they pick 12-15???
we have 3 people going to TRY OUT pretty much.
Blazers = Great Success
"Awesome! Totally awesome! All right, Hamilton!"
15 are eligible to play.
12 actually go.

aldridge/roy
can take who’s spot really…
Michael Redd… and…
"Awesome! Totally awesome! All right, Hamilton!"
I'm thinking
Roy will take the Redd spot since he is injured. Maybe Kidd will go off the team since he is getting up in age and already has a medal. Then That opens up a spot and they already have cp3 and deron at point but only 3 big men (Bosh, Boozer, Howard) and aldridge would be a good fourth.
Please do not feed the B-Rex

if boozer
even gets an invite back.
he might ask for some money to play lol!!!!
"Awesome! Totally awesome! All right, Hamilton!"
so...the locks...
PG. Paul, Williams, Kidd (might be gone though from internation play)
SG. Wade/Kobe/
SF.James/Melo/
PF. Bosh/
C. Howard
Leaving out, Prince/Redd/Boozer
iffy… Kidd/Bosh i would say
Aldridge and Roy would fit perfectly into Team USA, and ODEN also as a back up center.. it would be a dream come true. if 3 blazers were on TEAM USA.
"Awesome! Totally awesome! All right, Hamilton!"
meaning
as he shows in the all star games, he is a great teammate who is extremely unselfish and is very willing to defer to those two guys….
Roy's body might not want to play...
he already has old man knees.
Actually
Aldridge would be hard pressed for rotation minutes on that team. James and Melo both played a lot of 4 for that team because it was so guard heavy, and it worked really well. Even Roy would have trouble getting on the court given that we are so deep at the 1/2/3.
"B-Roy is the best shooting guard I have played against"
-Ron Artest
If Artest can say it, so can I. Broy>Kobe.
Reallistically..
Durant will be thrown in there..
so my 3 would be Roy, Durant, Aldridge. for 3 new spots.
"Awesome! Totally awesome! All right, Hamilton!"
realistically Oden may get the invite but he's not getting on the team.
i’d love for him to go and get conditioned, learn a few tricks, practice against super-roider but he’s not made for international play. oden is the perfect specimen for playground basketball. next is playoffs, then regular season, then the flop heavy international play. Could you imagine how much the ginobili’s & varejaos would be bouncing off him in international play?
Maybe he makes it on the next go around, but he’s definitely not gonna make it this time around.
Please, for the love of all that is holy, please stop using the following: "Book it.", "FTW", "Epic" & "Fail".
...no seriously--stop.
well, it's a 3 year committment.
olympics are 3 years away, so oden will get his chance to improve.
"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.
"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.
yes, come next summer
if he plays well next season he could be on the team come time for the olympics

PLEASE don't go Brandon
Last thing we need is him going deep in the playoffs and playing in the olympics two years from now. It killed Clyde in 92, it’s killing Kobe right now, and there are a number of other guys it has hurt. Especially with Brandon’s lingering knee trouble he could really use the time off. He also doesn’t have as much to gain from the experience as Oden or Aldridge. Brandon has proven himself a top 10 NBA player and doesn’t nee an Olympics training camp to verify that.
I really can't believe that people think
that players shouldn’t play for team USA. They should all aspire to play for their country. If there is one thing i think portland doesn’t have enough of I think it is patriotism and pride in there country. Oden should be jumping at the chance to play for team USA and represent his country.
"And once again we can say, it's a GREAT day to be a Blazer."- Brian Wheeler
Brandon and LeMarcus
should also jump at the chance to participate in Team USA. I don’t think you’ll have a problem convincing them two to play.
"And once again we can say, it's a GREAT day to be a Blazer."- Brian Wheeler
I agree I would rather see Roy not play.
I guess that makes me selfish… but the dude has very little miniscus in his knee. His career will go as far as his knee takes him. He will have bad arthrits when he retires.
so the other invite's are
Kevin Durant
Derrick Rose
Andrew Bynum.
Players from the 2008 Select Team,
Andre Iguodala,
Jeff Green,
O.J. Mayo
Al Horford, also are expected to receive invitations.
With ROY, ALDRIDGE, ODEN that makes 10. i would say ROY is prolly considered a lock.
"Awesome! Totally awesome! All right, Hamilton!"
Potential Blazer Olympians
How many do we have on the team?
Like half the active roster?
That’s damn impressive.
