Joel Freeland-update at BeyondBowie.com
I saw this article about Joel Freeland, and wanted to make sure everyone had a look. It doesn't share a lot of new information, but it is a nice breakdown of what we know about him so far, and where we might be going with him.
"Joel Freeland is listed as a 6'10"/6'11" forward currently with CB Gran Canaria, of the Spanish ACB League (same league as Rudy) and has been described as both a power forward and center. His playing style has been compared to David Lee of the Knicks and former NBA player Keon Clark."

Nice, I wonder if he and Joel Przybilla can form a
good “Blue collar, lunchpale” crew down in the lane.

Kevin Pritchard was interviewed on the phone during Courtside and....
expressed an great deal of excitement about Joel Freeland. I kept hoping that he would say he would be bringing him over this summer but he would not commit to that during the interview.
Please KP, do it! Bring us Joel Freeland ASAP!

He likely couldn't say that at the moment even if it was clear already since Freeland is still under contract in Gran Canaria and the season is not over
But he seemed already very excited back a while ago when doing an interview with Sean Meagher. I would assume it’s fairly sure he will be in summer league again this year, and then we will see. I think KP wants to bring him over, the financial question is if Freeland gets much better offers from European clubs than the rookie salary scale.

Care to venture a guess
What a player like Freeland or Serigo in worth to a Euro team?
by southern oregon on May 5, 2009 11:59 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Heavily depends on in which league you play and for which team (Spain, Greece, Russia)
Sergio could likely make quite some more in Spain than he makes here, plus sponsoring. When Navarro returned to Barcelona (granted he was a major basketball star there before even coming to the NBA for a year) reports were that he signed a five year deal making 15 million euros.
Freeland wouldn’t get nearly as much as Sergio. Rubio right now has a ridiculously low salary of under $100,000 though they recently doubled it – coupled with a massive multi-million buyout. Would be interesting to see if that holds up when challenged in court.
As a #30 pick, Freeland could expect to make ca. $800,000; $850,000; $900,000 and then $1.5 million (a bit more) while on the rookie scale. While his initial salary would probably be higher than in Europe, the last years might be lower. I don’t know, maybe it is more attractive for him than for Rudy (certainly) and Sergio.

Pretty much what I was thinking
It stands to reason if he plays well in Sept. then his value goes up but if you factor in a buyout he wouldnt be making near the sacrifice Rudy made[is making]

Two Joels?
I like it! They can move in together, and have wacky sitcom adventures.
One is from the Midwest
One is from Middlesex
Who knows if they’re going to dig themselves holes?
I don’t, you don’t, it’s our two Joels.

Nice read, thanks!
Looks like following the Brits in the tourney will be fun and interesting.

One factor is
That he can come over this year without a buyout and teams are going to want a 3 year contract. When ever he comes over the rookie scale is going to be the same which is why I think we will see him this year

I don't know
Something about “Chinese dolls.”
I makes about as much sense as why Judas, king of the leprechauns, betrayed Jesus to the Romans for a pot of gold.
And people say Steve Blake isn’t tough.
