5/3 JD - I kind of like this slow pace
While I'm sad our season is over, at the same time I'm kind of glad. I'm sure like a lot of others I visit this site everyday. Whether I comment or not I still just find myself here reading, and lately its been kinda crazy. This morning it was nice to wake up and see that there were only a few new posts and only one on the main page. I like waking up on the weekends and sipping coffee while reading through some non-confrontational posts. And today has been one of those mornings. :) Lets keep it that way.

Same here.....I spend a lot of my breakfasts/lunches on BE
I just like taking my time cooking/eating, and so I usually cruise around the site while doing so.

Your podcasts have been pretty awesome.
It is very cool matching voices to the names we see here. I was glad to hear Norsktroll on the last one—from Germany even!
You ever have a business relationship by phone only with someone for months, then you finally meet them and they in no way whatsoever look like what you thought? I am turrible at that—it just happened to me again and I was waaaaaay off base…

yeah, it was kind of funny
I was actually surprised he had an accent, which I obviously shouldn’t have been since English is his third language…..he’s just so fluent when posting around BE, I always think of him as an Americano who just happens to live over seas.

Gotta ask this again to see if we have any boxing fans out there:
Did anyone see last night’s match between Pac & Ricky?
It was pretty quick with the result appearing obvious within like the first minute…
Personally I’m not a boxing fan. I’m just a Manny Pacquiao fan.
Does anyone who knows what they are talking about think he is the best?
I wonder what each of the Blazers are doing with their vacation time now. If it were me, I’d have to get out of the country to refresh myself from the NBA crazyhouse.

i heard it was a quick fight...but I ain't much of a boxing fan so i don't even know who the 2 dudes are

Yeah, it was quick for a quick fight.
Pacquiao knocks Hatton down twice in round one. Pacquiao knocks Hatton out cold in round two. Hardly even a fight.
Hawaii’s cool, but I’d wanna go someplace where most people don’t even know who I am.

Definition - Pacquiao:
Best boxer in the world currently.
He’s from the poorest parts of the Phillipines and fought his way from the most humble stakes I can think of. From small joints in the Phillipines he has risen all the way to making De La Hoya look more like a punching bag than a boxer.
For Blazer fans, he is also a character guy. He has nearly always refused to disparage his opponents and tries to treat them with respect.

The winner of NBA Executive of the Year has leaked
Apparently trading for one guy who helps you get to a 54-28 record is more impressive than completely rebuilding your roster over 3 years to get to that same record.
Why do I get a feeling that the famous e-mail cost KP some votes, even if he didn’t write or send it?
by Timmay! on May 3, 2009 10:40 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Many people think KP could have done better on trades this year. They wanted to see the blockbuster
that would put us up there with LA and Cleveland. KP didn’t make it happen even though he has all this talent. I don’t think it’s the letter.
Also, I think KP did the correct thing, not making any of the big trades available this year.
by staylost on May 3, 2009 11:02 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
One of the reasons it probably will be difficult for KP to win
Executive of the Year is that some on this thread created “Pritsch slapped” and made other derogatory comments about the people KP trades with. That type of braggadocio just makes his job that much more difficult and creates negative thoughts about KP.

We ate it yesterday. My wife says it was the sweetest pineapple she’s ever had. I think it’s because we let it get rip on the plant. I think another one will come out in a year. I’m going to try to fertilize it more this year so it will be bigger.

Short bus
Hi. I lurk and very infrequently comment, but wanted to let you know that your comment about the shortbus stung a bit. I have 3 special needs children, one of whom rides a special ed bus to and from school. My others don’t only because I drive them daily to and from school. I know it wasn’t meant in a bad way but please remember that that kind of comment might hit where you don’t mean it to. Peace!

Thanks for the gentle recommendation about such an important issue.
It is sad that these sorts of remarks are so mainstream. The user rarely makes any connection with the underlying meaning of the word, and even more rarely actually intends to hurt those with special needs. I know I do it too without thinking, even though I try not to.
Thanks again for reminding us. We appreciate it.

I should have known better. I have a daughter who was labeled a "slow learner"
and “borderline retarded” when she started school. It took almost 5 years of cajoling the public school system and finally paying for the testing myself to find that she has a relatively high IQ. She just learns differently. At the time, uninsured, paying for the testing was something I could not afford. This experience is one big reason I’m such a great defender of Travis when people question his IQ. It makes my blood boil.

Without ever getting Zaza on the face. (I also would have thrown him out though, to maintain control. He basically pulled him to the ground)
What ‘s the key to that Flagrant Foul? That his last name’s not Rondo.
Afterward, Haslem, adorned with cornrows and a huge back tattoo (was that a map?), throws the jersey into the crowd, making his best case to be traded to the Blazers.

In fact, in order of teams I'd like to see win:
1. Dallas — I’m a huge fan of Dirk and they have nobody I dislike.. I’d like to see Jason Kidd win one too
2. Rockets — Come on, it’d be cool if the team that beat us won the whole thing.. Plus Aaron Brooks! (does he have a nickname yet?)
3. Cavs — We are all witnesses.
4. Atlanta — Fun, young, energetic
5. Boston — I’m a fan of underdogs, and they actually became one when they lost KG.. Plus one of my top 2 favorite players: Ray Allen
6. Orlando — don’t really care for them.. overpaying for Rashard Lewis rubbed me the wrong way for some reason
7. Denver — booo!! boooo!!!
8. L*kers — Do I really need to explain this one?

lol haywood...that aint' oden. I see Dampier as Oden's floor if he didn't improve one bit.

I get that it wasn’t smart, but all it amounted to was him hanging around with friends in Baltimore while being videotaped, and said footage appeared on a bootleg tape titled Stop Snitching. He didn’t produce it and it’s not like it was a documentary or anything, just some bootleg video. It’s definitely not a reason to like a guy, but not one to not like a guy, that’s just me.

where I can find a record of this story?
I remember reading somewhere (I’m thinking it was a comment on a Birdman post) in which they said they were in Vegas and had Chris Andersen next door to their hotel room and shared a balcony with him. Apparently, it was really hot but he refused to take his fur coat off and was shirtless otherwise and carried around a bottle of vodka.
That’s about all I can remember. Maybe he was wearing leather pants, too.
I can’t find this ANYWHERE and it’s driving me crazy – anybody else seen this post?

Oh Yeah
Last night we went to Waikiki for a pubcrawl with my wife’s coworker and the GM from her hotel. I got in trouble for farting, but what I really got to share with you was a prom that was going on, at the first hotel we went to. It was like the NBA draft of hot teen women.
At this point in time, my opinion of folks who don’t recognize how sexy teens are as an all-around sex object lack an appreciation and/or understanding regarding the importance of teen butts. Now I know I don’t have a draft pick to get me a new teen wife, but what if I could somehow work out a deal to trade my wife, and my cat for this brunette I saw last night who’s curves were kickin’? Her on the ball offense would be great on my team.
We also almost went into a bar called Level 4 where most of the women were dressed really slutty. Most only had about 4 inches of material covering their boobies and about 6 inches of material covering their punanis. One Asian girl had my drooling for a sign and trade. I think if I throw in my wife, my car, and cash considerations, I might be able to get me an experienced tramp to come home too. An experienced tramp would fix my wife’s biggest weakness which is lack of slutitude. My wife’s +/- of showing skin is sometimes negative, unless we go to the beach. That little Asian tramp at the bar last night was at at least +25.

Okay well the question is "In its recent decision to buy long-term rather than just short-term government securities, the Fed is hoping that:"
And the answer is “Interest rates on corporate bonds and mortgages will fall”
I thought it was “The sellers of the securities will spend the money on consumer goods and thus stimulate demand”
Can you explain to me why that is? If not, it is no big deal at all. I have some time to figure it out because my final isn’t until Tuesday morning.

but the book is correct. Ultimately buying long term government securities, the Fed lowers interest rates so the housing market can be stimulated, not consumer goods.

So then if they had been buying back short term securities then the hope would be to stimulate consumer goods?
Since both long-term securities and mortgages are, well, long term? I hate this damn class. I will be so happy when I don’t ever have to take another econ class again.

Mhm, the Fed definitely increases the money supply with that action. But probably the “long-term” is the key here.
MS + i have an inverse relationship of course. Fed buys bonds, MS goes up, interest rates go down, consumption goes up, unemployment goes down, inflation goes up (long term).

it's all about utilizing debt correcty....
there’s millions of trust funds that invest in long term government securities…These trust funds such as Social Security, Corporate Trust, etc…The government has spent the money raised by selling bonds to the trust fund. So raising the cash to invest in the stock market would require that the trust fund sell the bonds back to the Treasury. This is not doable with short term securities because lifecylce of the securities of these trust is typical a 10 year turn…
SO therefore, if the government invest in long term securities, then it will help interest rates fall because they would get a return based on the existing investments of these funds….creating a deflation effect where mortgages and corporate bonds would decrease that are directly affected by consumers such as all us BEdgers…
So it’s really irrelevant that securities will spend the money on consumer goods SINCE government securities don’t directly affect purchase of consumer good in a short term economic stimulus…It affects corporations and trust….
after all that, that’s just what i kinda know…a lot of it is theory since quarterly growth of short or long term securities don’t have an actual correlation to anything without a bunch of other factors.

One of the many things that suck about the current economic situation
My oldest son has woked his butt off to save a large pile of $’s for a down payment on a house,is drooling over the repo situation and cant even get a bank to talk to him about a loan unless I use my VA loan and go on the title, the problem is I have 2 sons and can only do that once.

i hear you...
my sister has saved up 20% down but it takes a least 6 months to get a loan through due to the new bailout restrictions…and even then, it’s not guaranteed.
have you talked to a Credit Union? A teacher’s credit union has more leniency than a regular bank.
good luck to you and your sons for sure.

I might have found a player for KP (will also update my post)
There was a Nike International Junior Tournament in parallel with the Euroleague finals. It was won by a team from Serbia against a team from Lithuania. Two players you might hear about leading up to the 2011 draft or later dominated. Center Dejan Musli (born 1991) was named MVP of the tournament, and finished the final with 31pts, 17 boards and 3 blocks. And their point guard Nenad Miljenovic had 17 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists. He is still 16 going on 17. He was recently invited to compete in the Jordan Brand Classic 2009 in NY.

Nah
We’ve been doing every other Sunday and we don’t have many local friends, me and my wife, a lady from Florida and a bloke from Australia are the core and every now and then a lady from Japan, a local Chinese girl, and a guy from California show up. Yesterday was shish kabobs and blended drinks.

Did I ever tell you about the last time I went to Hawaii?
I ended up finding an ancient Hawaiian idol which turned out to bring a whole lot of bad luck on my entire family.

Yep.
In the 12th or 13th, the A’s scored three, and the M’s matched it in the bottom. Surprisingly fun game.
Nice to see the A’s don’t have the M’s number anymore.

i've always liked the A's just because I had to be them like 3 years in a row in little league.

Played frisbee today for the first time in a year or so
The scouting report, the old dude is still deadly accurate with either hand, has lost no hand speed or coordination, can still run and jump if he has to. Is going to feel it tomorrow but other than taking off a back to back once in a while good to go for the season and looking forward to it

anyone here ever use video game emulators?
basically all they do is allow you to play old systems like PS1, SNES, Genesis, Atari, etc. on your computer.
Right now I am playing NBA Jam: Tournament Edition on SNES trying to beat every team with Clyde, Terry Porter, and Cliff Robinson.

i liked the end of that
Yao’s pumped, too. Asked if he likes the Rockets being big underdogs, he asked, “What is an underdog?”
When told it meant people expect them to lose, Yao said: “I’m used to that. Don’t worry about it. I’m used to it.”

Man Nugget fans are cocky
I can’t wait until they regress next year, with Andersen leaving and Billups becoming older and older… They are paying huge dollars to Billups, Melo, Martin, and Nene… no room to improve their roster at all.
