Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Kobe Bryant and Andrew Ilgauskas vs. the Poseurs - WCF Game 5 Open Thread

The Conference Finals have been terrific. I can only hope that this game is as suspenseful and intriguing as last night's thriller.

ESPN Prediction:

Denver is now the aggressor and the more confident team in this series. The Nuggets will come into Game 5 with guns blazing.

The Lakers have no need to panic. They still hold home-court advantage in what is now a best-of-three series. However, just flipping the switch isn't good enough. They must respond with more toughness and aggressiveness than they have shown in any game so far this season, and more than just Kobe must answer the call. This is "heart of a champion" time. Expect the home crowd to help them find it.

Prediction: Lakers win Game 5

Accuscore puts it at 72-28, Lakers.

Chris Andersen:

"They've been playing every other day since May and we've had our breaks and the advantage to heal our bodies is better than the Lakers," Andersen said. "Now we're starting to get back in our rhythm that we were at when the playoffs started."

Phil on the refereeing and hard play:

"There's a sense of how much people want it, how you play when you have to play hard and how aggressive you become and that's a fine line," he said. "I want to keep the topic on a positive note. I don't want to talk about that aspect of it."

And a nice picture of Kobe <3ing Lamar.

Thanks

I might still anger Lakers fans about how slow Bynum moves depending on how the game goes :)

I laughed so hard.

Are you worried about Bynum’s knee?

Eh, not worried.

Another good way is recapping Pau's free throw woes and overall softness

Or that Kobe should really really win with this supporting cast. Or whatever happened to Fisher and if they think Farmar is the future. Or that they are missing Vlad Rad. Or that they are capped out with key guys going into free agency. The possibilities are endless, which is surprising on a really good team.

I enjoy timbo ripping on the Lakers and them not being sure what to do.

Eh? Most of the hardcore Laker fans at SS&R are now well aware that they run hot and cold...

………………….. or, more precisely, they play like World Champions and then the next game/quarter/minute they play like they couldn’t beat OKC or Minnesota.

By the way, I remain convinced the Blazers would have taken them to 7 games this year if the Blazers had got past Houston. Not sure they would have won, probably not actually — but who knows?

When SS&R first started, there were several of the regulars who thought the Lakers were awesomely great and just needed to "flip the switch" in the playoffs...

………………………….. actually, they’re a deeply flawed team that can play brilliantly when they are clicking on all cylinders.

"I don't know Twitter" - Rudy Fernandez

by RoodiePhirnandizz on May 27, 2009 6:37 PM PDT up reply actions

Many beautiful regions with totally different climate and people

Scandinavia and the Alps in the winter for skiing. The coastal regions are very nice in the summer, and there you can choose between cool coast (UK, Eastern Sea from Germany to the Baltic region, Bretagne) and hotter areas around the Mediterranean. Also many regions that are still cheap (e.g. Croatia, Balticum, the other side of the Mediterranean in Morocco).

I spent nice time everywhere from Ireland to the British Midlands to Portugal to Kreta to Sicily to Austria to the lake regions in Eastern Europe.

I don’t like the parts that are flat and far from sea and mountains so much. And I’m not so much for the heat, though that occasionally is nice too.

How suh-weet would a Magic/Denver final be

FINALLY something else to point to for those who think every finals is fixed by the NBA home office.

Refs give favoritism to stars and people with reps, for sure, but there is nothing the league wants more than Kobe vs Lebron. If that doesn’t happen, it’d be suh-weet.

I’m the inventor of the “I delete all my e-mails after long trips or holidays. Important stuff will get sent to me again” inbox zero method. It’s amazing how many allegedly high priority problems solve itself if you don’t get involved by those who really are best qualified to solve them but somehow wait for direction or don’t want to take responsibility.

I know what you are saying about cell phones, since I worked for that industry and it kinda was corporate standard to be reachable at all times. My funniest phone conference was sitting in the sun on a ski slope in Austria with Taiwan, China, Japan, Germany, Finland, USA on the line.

Kobe is actually the best passer of all time. The statisticians are just haters and refuse to give him his rightful assists.

Refs in the tank for LA here

Pretty obvious to me, as a mostly unbiased bystander. I’ve got the game on a HD DVR and can back it up when I notice obvious “blown” calls to make sure.

Nene and Chris Anderson can’t get a call inside. They’re been repeatedly hammered with nothing called. Nene had one play underneath where he was hit by two guys, one of them knocking him to the ground. He was on the ground pleading for a call afterwards.

That Billups charge call was a joke.

The call on Nene going for the loose ball with Fisher was clearly wrong, Breen was sure the call was the other way before the PA announced it – he said “foul on Fisher” and he was right. It put Denver over the penalty too, so it was two point for the L*kers.

On the last Odom rebound, he put two hands in the back of Anderson and shoved, which is why Anderson was doubled over while Odom went up and got the ball. He was clearly boxed out before the play.

Oh, and not only did Bryant recover and take a second shot after that foul call as Van Gundy pointed out, but he actually landed before the ball left his hand (this is the third time I’ve seen Bryant get away with this in the playoffs).

If Denver’s going to pull this game out, they’re going to have to outplay the L*kers by a mile.

Actually, for the record...

……………. The tickets are so expensive at courtside that they are overpopulated with trendy, casual fans who just want to be seen.

The real fans are in the rafters.

But in Staples for Lakers games, they black out the crowd for dramatic effect, so you can never see the real fans.

That said, it isn’t the most dynamic building and probably the worst OBJECTIVE home court advantage for any team in the West that plays to a somewhat full building.

But there ARE real fans in LA, believe it or not.

Amazing, but true.

There was a pretty good “visit to Staples” piece by a Nuggets fan on Pickaxe and Roll…
