A Humble Backup Power Forward Suggestion
We all know the weaknesses of the team at the backup power forward spot. We can't get any offense out of it. We can't get any defense out of it. We can't get any rebounding. It's just abysmal. There's nothing there. It's been pretty much agreed upon that the most important thing to gain in this position is someone who is a good defender and is a strong rebounder.
How about a guy that has a defensive rebounding percentage of over 20% during the last few years?
How about a guy who has the reputation of being one of the premier post defenders in the game?
How about a guy with years and years of experience in big games and a championship ring?
How about a guy who is familiar with Portland and likes the city?
How about a former All-Star?
Well, this player's contract is up, and he'll be a free agent this summer. The only issue is that he earned over 13 million last year and may expect a similar pay day (wrongly). Maybe with a little smooth talking though, he could be had.
Oh wait, I forgot to introduce this player; although I think some of you may know who I am talking about already:
HEY GUYS!

Couldn't Sheed's return be the perfect thing for us? He would fit into our system instantly, and brings a competitive fire that no one aside from Joel Przybilla can rival. Say it with me: we want Sheed back.

Wow!
Just dont know if I could handle that. Not saying Wallace doesnt bring serious game but really have we not just moved passed that?

If he would really accept LaMarcus as the starter and care more about the team than he did last year for his...

This would work out really well for him.
He won’t have to sell his house anymore. But it sucks for me because I’m pretty close to putting in an offer.

Get ....Richard Hendrix
Richard WANTS to play…. even as backup.

I'd take Kemp back over Frye...
In fact, I bet we could get him cheap. I’m actually part way serious.

It would never happen
Regardless if it was good or not, and Sheed would need to accept a backup roll (and a small contract).

I would love this...
but I think that Sheed puts Portland dead last on his list of potential teams he’d sign with (regardless of our upside), considering his time here and his relationship with the local media.

1st. he is too good for a back up
2nd. he is not a banger, he is just like LMA with more range
3rd. it wont happen

2. he is just like LMA with more range as well as far superior defense and rebounding.
Things happen for a reason they say, but I say there's a reason things happen.

Huh?
Quit making up random facts that don’t exist.
LMA averaged 7.5 r/40 minutes on the slowest team in basketball while sharing the court with the best defensive rebounder in the NBA. (And Oden oftentimes too.)
Wallace averaged 9.2r/40 minutes on a faster paced team and being the primary rebounder. I’d bet just about anything that adding Przybilla to Detroit and slowing Detroit down to our pace would make Wallace no better at rebounding than Aldridge is.

McDyess
I’m not sure Antonio will want to come to Portland, but he might be persuaded
But I would be willing to wager large amounts of Blazersedge street cred that Wallace would want no part of a return to Rip City

I loved 'sheed
but as he went so went Detroit. ’Sheed needs to retire gracefully, maybe not this season but soon.

Sheed reminds me of the 4th Quarter collapse.
Even more so with the NBA running that Game 7 commercial every chance they get.
so…no, thanks.

he doesnt rebound anymore
and never liked to very much. channing frye shoots the 3-ball better if that’s what you want.
and why would you want someone who would encourage players not to listen to the coach, to be rude to the local press, treat rookies and younger players like trash, and who thinks giving away points via technical fouls on unimportant calls is a winning strategy in close games?

Okay...
Rasheed had his best rebounding year this since since the 04-05 season. Granted, it helps that Ben Wallace isn’t a Piston anymore, but saying that he doesn’t rebound anymore is also false. This year also tied for his 3rd best rebounding year in his entire career.
The rest I agree with though.

as a player yes,
as a person not so much. I always liked ’Sheed, and I think he brings things to the table that would greatly benefit our team. However, I think that our team has moved on from him, and his era, and that we should go backwards even if it helps our current team in someways.

YES YES YES
i like the idea he can play 3, 4 and 5. would be plenty of minutes between those 3 positions to give him the time he needs.

This is on my profile page for a reason...No thank you.
PTB Liberation Day – 2/10/04
Portland trades Rasheed. The Blazers proved they were serious about changing the organization on that day. There is no doubt he is an extremely talented player and an unselfish team player in many ways. But he was the lightning rod and the face of the Jail Blazers. To this day he does not understand how his “me against the NBA and their officials” attitude affects his teammates in a negative way. With Ben Wallace a distant memory in the Detroit locker room, I find it extremely improbable that the Pistons will taste victory in a championship series with Rasheed Wallace as their leader.
Thus 2/10/04 stands out as the day the Portland Trailblazer organization proved it was willing to part with talent if it did not fit the purpose of winning a championship.
