Saving our premier D over… and over… and getting the Rebound!

whaa happen?

by Toby on May 19, 2009 11:55 PM PDT reply actions

Joel Przybilla

Easily deserved and hopefully self-explanatory.

Even with all his foul troubles and his slow feet, Greg’s in second place.

Batum’s third. He’s got so much promise.

by Timmay! on May 20, 2009 12:01 AM PDT reply actions

J-Przy, no question. Although I am confident that Greg is going to win this award in years to come.

by shighkin on May 20, 2009 12:08 AM PDT reply actions

Joel

I aggree with both Toby and Timmay. Joel was our core night in and night out, consistent, tough, and out last line of defense.

Nic was our best wing defender, able to defend three positions, and an amazing surprise.

Greg is a real presence in the middle when he gets to really play. He can grab offensive rebounds with one hand while holdin off the opposing five with the other. And shows potential as a passer. On future nights when he manages to pass the ball out for assists, he should flirt with triple doubles, because he will automatically get double doubles.

"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."

-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.

"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."

-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

Showing GO what it means to be a pro. All the blocks, all the rebounds, putting his body on people are just icing.

Joel

This one is pretty obvious. His rebounding and paint control were key.

The Kings have the best bench I’ve seen. There are easily 14 guys on this team good enough for every bench in the league. Now if we could only get some starters, I’d totally jizz in my pants.

As you said in your reier of the coaching staff, none of our perimeter guys were terrific on-ball defenders. joels presence in the paint and defensie rebounding were critical to our success this year

wins fairly easily here. Still, gotta give a nod to young Nic Batum. It’s just that Joel’s defense changes the whole offensive strategy of Blazer opponents whereas Nic’s coverage mainly helps to erase the offensive contribution of one player.

Oden

His per was rediculous. Joel was challenged more then Oden was he just changes the game when he is in the line up.

I try to help with everything," Fernandez said. "If the coach says go rebound, I go rebound. I work for the team.

""If I'm playing this game to get media and attention, I shouldn't be here," Aldridge said. "I'm here to play basketball, and do what I can do to help this team win."

His stare became blank. It was apparent he was back in that place, on the Rose Garden's logo, picking up Aaron Brooks as the crowd nervously roared.

by stephentheh on May 20, 2009 1:50 PM PDT reply actions

Well I'm a follower and the popular opinion seems to be one J. Przybilla

He anchored our defense, chewed out the perimeter D at times, and was an overall leader on that end of the floor. My wife has a crush on him now as a result of all of the confrontations he had during the season, sticking up for our “soft” team.

My expectation were a little out of whack and I expected Greg to actually win this award when the season started, but I see enough potential there that I’m not sweating it (that New Orleans block shortly after he came back the first time? awesome!). Speaking of expectations, I was totally surprised to see Nic perform as well as he did for a rookie and also see that he has room for improvement, which makes me even more optimistic about the future.

"What's so interesting is that this team took on a dynamic that was very special. I don't think we as a group, in terms of management, coaches and players, realize what we did as a young team. We broke all the metrics. We broke all the molds. Our challenge is can we continue to do that. As young of a team with 54 wins, no issues off the court, phenomenal chemistry." - Kevin Pritchard
