Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

It's time for the 6th man to step it up [Edit:] that means us

As I watched game 5 from section 330, it came to me.  Our vocal crowd had no chanting tendancies.  Other than the very common "Here we go, Blazers, here we go" on offense and "De-fense, De-fense" when Portland played the other end.  I think that it is time that we B-Edgers (the cutting edge of Portland fandom) need to come up with some more interesting -- and clean -- options.  I'm not talking about, "these refs suck".

I've heard "MVP" for Brandon.  "Rip City" when prompted by Blaze.  "Ru-dy" chants also rain down from the rafters.  Any others?  I'm having a hard time thinking of any.

There was a call here for more spontaneous fan participation earlier in the season.  When the "wave" came out, it was shouted down by many.  I could take or leave the wave, but we should be more interesting and innovative than the normal NBA crowd.

Our team has stepped it up, it's time we do the same.  I am looking for any fan chants that are kid friendly.

Here are my initial entries.

"All-Star" chant for LMA.

"Rip City" chant without Blaze.

I'm no Duke fan and this would have to start in the 300 level but I'd love this before each tip-off.

The spanish chants are great, but I don't speak the language.  There is a chant that goes something like, "Oh wee oh, a, oh wee oh. It's repeated over and over.  I love it and maybe Amlmart1 could help me out with this one.  I only found it on youtube in this soccer clip.

I'd love any help with this.

For sure we need some new chants. The problem with so many chants that I see from my RG neighbors

is that they have no rhythm, get off on the timing of the chant, and most chants die on the vine before they can muster any steam. It need to be something simple, like “Defense!” that is a success anywhere.

That is why I posted this.

Just like Brandon there comes a time when you learn to lead. Others will follow.

My hope is that if someone from here sees someone else in the RG trying to start something, we’d jump on board. Even if it’s in another section. Last year, section 229 started a “MVP” chant and I was the first in my section to join in. Pretty soon, the whole place was awash with the deserving chant.

I agree

Rudy needs to have an awesome sophomore year.

I don't get it the 6th man?

Is it Rudy or Outlaw? Or is it going to be Oden or Przy… depending on who starts?

Sorry, a Seahawk fan here.

I thought that concept of the crowd being the 6th man reference was pretty well known. The 12th man is huge with the ‘Hawks. Since it’s since been deemed illegal to put 6 men on the floor like Portland did earlier in the season, I can see why this would be confusing.

Same with my post

I just think the idea of the 12th or 6th man is silly. I am my own person, the other 20,000 people are their own people too. How we merge into one man is beyond me!

of course

it makes them feel special, remember this a very different crowd from the days at the coliseum.this is more of a cooperate obidiant crowd.compared to the lumberjack crowd of the good ole days.to see those phony fans, who were no where around wearing roy jerseys at courtside.acting like they own the damn r.garden.you talk about fanboys on the wagon geez.you guys in the nose bleeds,do you guys see those young punks, and ever wonder where were these people 2 years ago.

hopfully no one will ever start liking the blazers again

and as the years go on the age of the crowd will get older and older and finally there will be 20,000 people , every single one of them over 70 years old. When the refs mess up they will yell " here come the dentures!!!" and thousands of slimy dentures will rain down upon rose garden floor.

Swing Low, Swing Chariot

The national rugby team England’s Rose uses “Swing Low, Swing Chariot” as their unofficial anthem.
It may be an idea for the City of Roses too.

I would love it

if there was some song that everyone could sing, like a soccer crowd in Europe.

What song that might be, I have no idea. – Elgin

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
