Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Tasty RFA's

mmm...this morning I stumbled out of bed after slapping the snooze button multiple sessions.

Star-divide

Then matters got moore worse.  While shaving, I cut myself with my kleiza.  I hate shaving.  I often wish I could just let it all grow out like a warrick.  Ah to be young again, single and childress.  All I have now is a felton face and a case of miller.

On my way to work, I dreamt of saving money for a trip to Spain and staying overnight in a local villanueva.  But then I'd have to save money to bring the kids as well--unless I could find a way to lee them home somehow.  How much would I powe to rent a nanny for a week?  Oh that costs money too, I'm such a millsap.

Calling professional players "garbage" is pretty...

A. disrespectful to guys who play in the BEST hoops league on Earth
B. offensively simplistic
3. devastating to your reputation of “knowing what you are talking about”
or
E. All of the above.

The answer is E.

Hakim Warrick, Charlie Villanueva, Raymond Felton and Linas Klieza are all more than serviceable rotation players, with Felton and Villanueva are legit starters in the NBA. Why call any ballers out as flat out “garbage”? I just don’t get that. When i read a comment like that, that is so overly simplistic, I just think "this person doesn’t ever watch any basketball aside from a few Blazers games.

"Death is not final," Gita says. "If any man thinks that he slays, and if another thinks that he is slain, neither knows the truth. The Eternal in man cannot kill: the Eternal in man cannot die. I don't like the idea of going after restricted free agents.

Remember the Trenton Hassell fiasco? He was supposed to be the defensive wing stopper with the sweet 3-point touch (that’s how he was sold by the Front Office at that time at least) Then the Wolves locked him up.

I like a lot of the RFAs, but it’s higly unlikely that Portland will sign one, unless they actually want to play in Portland, at the minutes currently available.

hmmm
with the sweet 3-point touch

This one is especially odd, because the only time he shot better than .360 from deep was his rookie year with the Bulls.

Fun Fact/Weird Stat:

Trenton Hassell has taken 294 career 3-point attempts. 165 of them came during his rookie year! Despite only shooting .300 ONCE more in his career (his SECOND season), he’s still got a career avarage of 32% from long range.

Actually this might be the year for going after RFA

We have cap space to go after Brandon Bass. By making an early offer we force Dallas to match at a higher price than they would otherwise spend (and then we use cap space for a lopsided trade or we get our backup PF. This works if their is really one guy you like sucha s Bass. Mind you Bass is not restricted but there is litttle difference since the only teams that can bid on him have to be under the cap or team he played for.

THis is how the Twolves overpaid for Hassel. You just make sure that the [player targeted is not outrageously overpaid (just more than midlevel exception).

We have the cap-space, sure.

But I don’t want to do anything that means we can’t resign all three of Roy, LMA, and Oden to long term contracts. Yes, we have exclusive rights to re-sign them, and we can go over the cap to do so. But, why do so when we don’t have to? I submit that there is a deep enough class of fairly NBA-level talented Power Forwards in this draft class that a free agent really isn’t in our best interests unless it’s a long-time vet like Antonio McDeyss or Smith from the Cavs.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
