Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

Trade Question

Would you trade Brandon Roy for a healthy Dwyane Wade?  Why or why not?  Wade has the speed, fire, experience, and talent to take a big man to the finals  (see "Shaquille O'Neal").  He is a proven do-or-die competitor, he probably craves the kind of supporting cast Portland has assembled, and at this stage in his career, he aches for another ring.

Brandon Roy has different but comparable talent, and his competitive drive is strong.  It has yet to be seen whether he can help get Oden to the next level; but that is not something we can speculate about until Greg has another year under his belt.

Still, if the deal were straight-across, would you take it?

Sorry--explanation

Wade= old + fragile
Roy= young + fantastic

I like the whole team.

by RenoBlazerFan on May 17, 2009 7:52 PM PDT up reply actions

No.

It’s really, really close though.

Roy is a bit bigger, better 3 point shooter, perfect attitude. I don’t want to risk rocking the boat for something that is almost a lateral trade.

Roy is the best player in the world with the exception of Incarcerated Mike from Queensbridge .

by Nick Van Excellent on May 17, 2009 7:59 PM PDT reply actions

No.

Roy has learned to not take so many hard knocks going to the hoop. He still may not have the longest pro career (as he played 4 yrs in college) but Wade is an injury waiting to happen. Wade’s more spectacular but hits the floor from high up just too many times.

couldn't do it

i really believe that only cp3 and lebron are in the conversation for trades for roy..

no one else has a combination of proven talent, age/potential, and versatility..

hell, I’d be pissed for awhile the day Portland announces a Roy for LeBron trade.

No

to me it boils down to the whole Portland culture as well+local is better.

I would say that they are probably equal, perhaps Wade a little more, but with an extra 3 yrs of experience he should.

So it comes down to if you have to choose between two equal things, which would you choose? Some thing that has no connection to where you are from? Or something that was not made in the area, and has no connection to the area?

Nope

IMHO Roy>Wade. Now if we could have Wade NEXT to Roy now you are talkin!

by Odenrising on May 17, 2009 8:16 PM PDT reply actions

Wade is a better player but I wouldn't take him.

Age isn’t an issue—his injuries aren’t even a big issue for me. The biggest issue is Wade has said in articles before that he’s trying to make the most of things while he can and maximize his opportunities with commercials etc. There’s nothing wrong with that but Portland isn’t the best place for that. It comes down to who would be happier in Portland.

The answer is clear: Roy. And so Roy will be a Blazer for life. SpyderRyder has it right. CP3 or LBJ is what it takes for me to part with Roy (and a couple enticing pieces). Otherwise you’re taking a huge gamble 3 years down the line.

If Wade were 100% committed to staying in Portland for the rest of his career? That’s a very very good question.

Please, for the love of all that is holy, please stop using the following: "Book it.", "FTW", "Epic" & "Fail".

...no seriously--stop.

Oden Development

Should not be up to Roy. IF anything, KP should make Oden as comfortable as possible, trade for Conley. Solves our PG issue & Greg’s on court development could certainly have a huge improvement. Not to mention his attitude/aggression.

Hell I would take a flyer on Othello Hunter. He should be cheap & would play 3rd string PF. He can finish around the rim & rebound on the offensive end quite well.

Offseason:
Trade For Mike Conley Jr
Sign Antonio McDyess & Othello Hunter
Draft Kevin Seraphin/Edwin Jackson(Eurostash)

tough choice

Wade’s year was amazing— quite a bit better than Roy’s— but Wade is also older. I’d probably keep Roy.

by jksnake99 on May 17, 2009 8:42 PM PDT reply actions

Due to Wade’s injury history, I’d keep Brandon over him. It’s close, though.

CP3 is a no-brainer.

Wait

I think this is a bit of an apples and oragnes comparison in comparing “where” Roy can take Oden vs where Wade “took” O’neal.

I just dont agree with the idea that Wade took O’neal took a ring in 06’. Seems kind of silly, to me, to say it that way.

Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.

if you made the argument that wade is better

then it would only be a marginal difference…however brandon comes squeeky clean while wade has wild sex parties and wears fashionable bandages. then again…sex parties might help with team chemistry.

Maybe LeBron, but you could be sure that if Portland announced that trade I would be pissed about trading Roy for the next week or so.

99%

of nba america will consider that a steal for the blazers,by the way nba fans think, wade is a demigod.why it’s obvious he did it in the nba finals.look at the way he carried the heat this season.as for roy he’s now officially 1 of the top 10 players in the world.that said though to all you royfanboys in this site,in all honesty who do you think the nba/casual fan would pick to build their team around.seriously wade who america loves and adores or roy who outside the p.n.west nobody knows.

Biggest Difference

I would argue that Brandon makes those around him better (ala magic Johnson) whereas Wade seemed obsessed this year with trying to win MVP, and completely monopolized the offense this year for that Heat team. Look at FG/Min played stats. Lots of one on one. Translates to great regular season stats, but come playoffs they lose to a Hawks team that was swept by Cleveland. I see Brandon as intuitively seeing what will best give his team the chance to win, and then doing it. Sometimes it requires him to shoot a lot, but often it involves getting others involved. No knock on DWade, but I’ll take the Natural…

if he was healthy.. which means I would take Roy.. since wade is NEVER healthy
