Tom Thibodeau
He is a free agent after this year, rumored to be a candidate for multiple head coaching positions. He is a great young defensive mind. Of course Pierce, Garnett & Allen in their prime didn't hurt. He has been an assistant to a Jeff Van Gundy in the past with the Knicks & Rockets.
- What could he bring to our team? - Championship experience, A very smart defensive mind. Has seen first hand what it takes to keep multiple superstars happy with their touches.
- Would it cost us losing McMillan? - Most likely if he is a HC candidate for other teams. If he doesn't become a HC, then Paul Allen should really make him the highest paid assistant coach in NBA history.
- Would we be better off with Thibodeau? - This is an open question to the community. Please explain your answer.
Personally, I think he could do a lot with all the athletiscm here. Could help us improve exponentially on defense.

Like the idea, but
I don’t think Thibodeau is going to go anywhere unless it is for a HC position. Even though he is basically the actual head coach of the Celtics and Doc is really just the motivator.
Can I get a headband? One for my peeps, one for the fans in the really cheap seats, one for my momma, one for the mayor, and if you wanna get down with the players, YOU GOTTA GET A HEADBAND!
Anyone thought about replacing Nate
With Thibodeau? Is he worth it?

I really like Nate so I’m against the idea of replacing of him … unless it’s for a proven top tier head coach, which TT isn’t.
Agree.
I am a big Nate fan and I would want nothing short of Pops (which isn’t happening) as a replacement. Not worth it.

that seems like making moves
to make moves.
Even if this move were made it could be a case of just creating new problems as there is no guarantee that our offense would be as productive as it is now under another coach.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.
"Offense would not be as productive"
Not that hard really. Don’t let Blake screw things up, put the ball in Roy & Aldridge’s hands. Let Oden & Przybilla do work on rebounds.

that seems to be saying
that the offensive schemes have little do with coaching. I think you are oversimplifying the Blazers offense by quite a large margin. Also, you misquoted me.
I guess the big question is why would a coach who has taken this from a 21 win team to a 54 win team in 3 seasons be replaced by a coach with no head coaching experience? To answer this I think you need to tease out and examine a lot of the hidden assumptions in your main post.

How much does he make?
I say pay him a head coach’s salary and get him on the bench. He would be an ideal addition to Portland’s bench. There’s no salary cap for coaching, right? It would seem to be a great investment to me.
He had great personnel in Boston, no question, but he also helped turn the likes of Kendrick Perkins into very solid defensive players (with KG’s help, of course). Imagine what he could do for GO?
I say pay him $1 less than Nate and sign him up.
Not going to happen though. He’ll have a head coaching gig sometime in the next year or so. No reason to make a lateral move.
Q: Is Greg favoring his knee?
Frye: He favors dunking on your head, that's what he favors.
Is it worth it to hire Tom
if we lose MC as head coach?

No reason to make a lateral move.
You never know. Maybe TT is like Mike Dunlap and would rather “just coach” than face the media and do all the other stuff the head coach has to do. Maybe Nate could be like what Ernie Kent is going to be for Dunlap? (Please note: I’m not comparing the coaching ability of NM and EK, just their roles)
Some guys aren’t motivated by the big chair. If the money offered is the same and he can do what he enjoys doing (teaching a shut-down defense and winning titles) without the hassle of being “the man” maybe TT would make the “latteral” move. KP should at least explore the possibility
Paul Allen should really make him the highest paid assistant coach in NBA history.
I think I’ve mentioned this a few times, before
But I didn’t know that he hasn’t been “extended” by the Celtics, thanks for clarifying that. (Doc RIvers should be very afraid to face 2010 without TT alongside him)
Clifford Ray as big man’s coach (Oden, etc) would be another good “get” from Boston’s staff (Rick Barry’s suggestion, back in April)

loves mcmillian he fits everything this franchise wanna do.that said if a guy like g.poppovich or a r.carlisle would be a perfect fit in pdx.thibodeau looks like a guy i can see replacing p.jackson in la after next season.the media has made him too big of a coach in waiting for a pdx market.
Avery Johnson
Whats the deal did he just quit coaching, I don’t here his name in any of the interviews
It seems that everyone's real problem is they just don't drink enough coffee. They lose their edge, lose track of their priorities, and end up sleeping a third of their life away.
Tom Thibodeau
over McMillan is interesting…can’t say I would go for that for sure. However, TT as a MASSIVELY paid assistant coach? I would do that in a freaking heartbeat.
"Death is not final," Gita says. "If any man thinks that he slays, and if another thinks that he is slain, neither knows the truth. The Eternal in man cannot kill: the Eternal in man cannot die. The soul in man is neither born nor does it die. Weapons cannot cut it; fire cannot burn it; water cannot drown it.
The Bhagavad Gita
Given the Blazers progress
I don’t see how you can replace Nate at this juncture. Each year has been leaps and bounds better than the prior year, all with an extremely young core.
We need to keep in mind that Nate is a defensive minded coach, despite the Blazer’s defensive woes. To most young players, defense doesn’t come naturally, offense does. We’ve got to give time for Nate to work with this team from a defensive standpoint before writing him off.
