Introducing Blazers 2009-10 starting lineup

Star-divide

Point Guard........Jerryd Bayless his time has come to get some serious miniutes and not coming off the bench. He is probably one of the blazers best defenders right now, something they could really use at the point right now. He can all so take it to the basket and get to the foul line and make the free throws once he gets there. He had some problems finding open team mates when driving to the basket but given steady minutes as a starter I am sure that will inprove BIGTIME along with his jumpshot. He seems to be a great kid with a solid work ethic and a great future ahead of him. So lets live with the mistakes that are sure to come in the beginning for the great games that will come in the very near future, HUGE upside. Shooting Guard.........Brandon Roy. No need to say anything more so moving on at Center........Greg Oden shoud have a lock on the most improved player of the year next season. The blazers won 54 games this year and that was with very little help from GO. It would be nice to see the blazers play him the first 8-10 minutes of the first quarter and the last 6-8 of the second and do not let his fouls dictate his playing time. If he fouls out in the first half or even the first quarter so be it I think we have the depth to handal it. There is just no way he is ever going to get anything going without steady minutes and 3-4 minutes at a time does not get it done. Hopefully he will be a lot quicker next season and live up to his GREAT potential!! With major impact from GO the skys the limit for this blazer team. Starting at the Small Forward........Martell Webster who missed the entire 08-09 season. I really do not think most people realize what Martell could bring to this blazer team. He is probably the blazers best 3 point shooter and a very legitimate scoring threat at the small forward spot. He was just beginning to hit his stride durring the 07-08 season and he does not need to dominate the ball to get the job done. He is a solid defender and will be a great fit for this blazer team. To top it off at the starting Power Foward........LaMarcus Aldridge soon to be an all star and a keystone to this blazer team. Even with no moves made on the trade front we are looking at 60+ wins with no major injury problems. So lets give these guys a chance and see what happens, I think we will be glad we did and kept this core intact.

You must use your power for good, not evil, Luke.

Sometimes I wish I were George Steinbrenner and you were Billy Martin so I could hire you and fire you hundreds of times.

Y'know, it'd've been cool to have seen George Steinbrenner and Billy Martin duke it out in person.

That kind of love-hate relationship with its ups and downs probably never had one single dull moment

Damn, nice to see you spreading your good cheer all over the board this morning.

Your charming personality is everywhere.

If you disagree with folks, fine. Make your brilliant and incisive points. But a little less smug condescension would be appreciated.

As to your first point please do something to end your arogance

As to your second, really. I think there needs to be a poll question!

Another Scream For Attention

It seems that everyone's real problem is they just don't drink enough coffee. They lose their edge, lose track of their priorities, and end up sleeping a third of their life away.

Nope, I was somewhat hammered and in a bad mood.

It was just, well, the formatting of this Fan Post was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back.

I’ve calmed down since last night, though, so I apologize to everyone for being a jerk.

I like your direction, but your timing is way premature

Bayless isn’t ready. I am a huge advocate and I’m optimistic about his prospects, but he has clearly not demonstrated that he is ready. Give him a steady diet of back-up minutes and see if he performs. It may take a half a season, it may take two years. I don’t think anyone really knows at this point.

Martell is unlikely to be the starter in the short run. Nic’s defense helps take the defensive pressure off of Brandon. I think it is more likely that Nic will continue as a 18-28 minutes per game starter, and Martell if he comes back strong will be a high minute guy off the bench because of his scoring abilities. Depends on what Martell shows after his year off.

If both Bayless and Webster demonstrate solid production and good defense, your starting line-up may come to pass. Martell’s ability to spread the floor would make it easier for Bayless to become the starter by taking some of the role that Blake played last year in spreading the floor. Bayless’ ability to penetrate would create more spot up opportunities for both Martell and Roy.

To me your suggestion seems plausible, but a lot would have to fall the right way for it to make sense.

by upper left corner on May 16, 2009 9:21 AM PDT reply actions

You are probably right

It will be interesting to watch the Webster/Batum competition play out.

Which is more likely? The defensive guy developing his offensive game, or the guy with the grat stroke and the good body becoming an all around player. I think the first is more likely, but the second is possible.

by upper left corner on May 17, 2009 9:08 AM PDT up reply actions

I love how Bayless despite what he actually did on the court

is now considered something of a defensive dynamo among a lot of people here. The fact was he flat sucked on that end of the court, as he did in college. He’s just not a very good defender. Same with the rest of the point guards.

by as11osu on May 16, 2009 9:23 AM PDT reply actions   1 recs

Not to mention that he flat out sucked in offensive sets too.

He DID shine in transition and getting to the basket but that’s about it. He was given the opportunity to take the 2nd pg slot by default when Sergio slumped and still couldn’t handle it.

I have a lot of confidence he will eventually pan out but later rather than sooner.

Apparently my previous response got me in trouble with our Fearless Leader

I had the temerity to point out that your comment is an unsupported assertion and is really just name calling. I thought my observation was spot on.

Unfortunately I used a four letter j word to describe your behavior. My bad.

Personally, I don’t find use of that j-word in any more offensive than your use of the word “suck” and your smug ridicule of those who disagree with your unsupported opinion. Have a nice day :-)

by upper left corner on May 18, 2009 6:45 AM PDT up reply actions

I too think your are correct but premature.

Jerryd next needs a year to master PG play against backups. Nic and Joel have earned starting positions and will keep them until someone takes them. Whether you like this or not, the players, if grudgingly, appreciate the approach. Steve or replacement, Brandon, Nic, LMA and Joel start the season. Greg has an excellent chance of bumping Joel early on; maybe before the season starts. Martell, bones allowing, may play more minutes than the starter in front of him. If it’s working, I don’t see Nate feeling the need to change it early on. Jerryd will get all the backup minutes, say 15 or 18 a night. Confidence is so important to JB and Greg that Nate may let them dominate backups far past when everyone else wants them starting.Rudy, of course, will get 30+ as a back up and unseat Manu as the dream sixth man.

I’ll miss you Sergio and Travis. Thanks for many great memories.

Bedge or go home.

*sob*

I’ll miss Travis too. And Sergio. So sad. And it’ll be funny watching them play for a different team. Travis is likely going to light it up pretty good when he visits the Rose Garden.

If he scores 30+ with 16 assist in summer league & 40% from 3

You know those #’s are cut at least in half in the reg. season minimum. I like your optimism & would love to be wrong but yeah a little premature.

by We-B-Dunkin on May 16, 2009 12:18 PM PDT reply actions

not much diffrence

Blake- Bayless isnt ready yet and why resign Blake if he isnt the starter
Roy- Be player on the team
Batum- I think Trout will be traded and Nate likes Batum’s Defense
Aldridge- 2nd best player on the team
Przybilla- I think this will change during the season but for the start i think they go with Przybilla. Oden will get more mins though

Martell versus Nic

battling all summer for the starting job this fall. I think the better shooter gets the nod; that’s why I believe Martell will be starting. He can hit the short, mid-range and 3 point shot. I like your choice of Terry. He’s gonna bring speed, tenacity and an iron will. Let’s get him.
